Too much Healing?
Healing/vit/toughness combination doesn’t exist yet. And we don’t know if it ever will.
First of all, only heal / support sucks. Don’t go only Dmg, only heal/support, only tankness or what ever “only” in GW2. U will not be worth your place in party. Better go power/Heal/x and take some dmg with u. Ingi can stack up to 20-25 vulnerability with greandes for example – here is your dmg for the team.
Second point, healing sucks in scaling. It doesn’t matter which class, a pure heal character heals about double compared with 0 healpower. That’s not worth the healpower.
Since last patch superelixier (Elixier Gun) is bugged. They misschanged impact heal and pulse heal, means u heal one time the puls heal and every second the impact heal. This is realy strong at the moment, but a bug. As long as they don’t fix it, you will do very well with heal-engi. But after fix u will suck with heal ingi.
I personally thought I had more survivability pre patch.
Hmm so if full healing is no good, how can I know when I have too much healing? Or not enough power or whatever? It sounds crazy that full heals only double compared to zero heals…
What if you take the traits for the support, like elixir gun and healing bombs… but you keep the stats for damage?
So your bombs would do decent damage because of your power and crit for example, and still would heal and support because of the trait.
I’m playing support too, but I never even consider + healing unless I get it for free on something…
For the stats I look at damage and survivability, the ‘support’ I get from utility slots, kits and traits that work with these.
Not saying it’s better, just saying it’s an approach that sacrifices less damage while still being very good support.
I´m roughly holding PPT above 1,8k .. traits 2,2,3,0,0 .. CRIT ch 47 & dmg 22 .. divinity runes, healing & cond a bit below 500 .. shield, med, grenade & bomb kits with R elixir.
Heal & Cond are average, altou, I´m planning to get it up at least to 600 & most stats to 1,9k .. leaving Vitality at 1,2k .. all in all – a balanced build.
.. to answer your question, it´s all about variability. The main point of a support in this game, is not for all to rely on you – to save their sorry arses .. but for you to survive as long as possible, while providing assistance. Bombs with heals – for close-range profs are a blessing – every heal counts .. double roll back – throw few grenades ( thx to cond at 500, they will count ) .. always giving blindness – pistol, bomb, greandes (to heal dmg, is nice, to lower it, is also nice – to prevent – is a blessing!) .. if something still gets to you .. shield & big ol´ bomb will keep you safe, until aggro is reset.
And R elixir – well – if someone is down – you throw it .. if you´re about to go down – throw it .. if the entire party is down & you´re about to kick the bucket – find a nice spot with flowers & atleast two party members & throw it to your legs in the last second. You must prevail!

I run a support build as well but I don’t sport healing gear. I currently run with power / prec / tough gear. I’m spec’d 0/20/30/20/0. In essence I’m middle ground for everything. I have survivability and healing and can do alright dmg with decent crit chance. I may not do the impressive numbers as the glass cannon types, but they tend to love having me around.
I use healing turret (For it’s fast CD and for the fact that I can blow the turret in its own water field for an area heal), bomb kit (With elixir infused bombs for healing luv), elixer gun (mostly for the heal field and condition removal of #3), and elixir R (for rez if needed). My elite right now is avatar of Melandru (Human elite heal guy) but honestly I could switch it out for supply crate and be just as content.
I used to run the full OMGWTFBBQLOL NADES glass cannon build and it got dull. So many people in this game spec glass cannon that entire groups can wipe on stuff that shouldn’t be that lethal. Especially now with FotM preventing rez runs, a support guy is almost always appreciated.
Is there such thing?
So I’m currently bomb heal spec with elixir gun. I’m gearing to be full support for exploitables a and fractals. So far I’m at 900 healing and 23 crit and I don’t recall my power or conditions but mainly I have cof condition/power gear.
My goal is to be around 1200 healing, I’m not even using full water runes set on my gear yet.
So my question is how efficient would that be for pve, I know I can already stay alive very long time an heal the crap out of my mates, but would it be worth to be full healing/vit/toughness geared and have pretty much no damage but have mad heals for the group? What do y’all think?
Don’t think there is such a thing as that gear. I am personally purchasing the pieces from the temples each one having + to healing on them. I haven’t reached my goal but so far at 503 healing most mobs have a REALLY difficult time killing me.
I personally don’t use the grenades tho. I’ve read they nerfed the healing on them long ago and with the recent reduction in explosive radius I’d say it probably doesn’t work well there either.
I use the traits II, IV, and XI for my healing because the AOE field switching to the EG produces doesn’t just heal it completely removes all conds. The lightning gives better dps. and the crit helps with heals from fields.
I don’t do dungeons however. Probably would benefit more from 50% faster vigor regen and supply crate has extra supplies but that’s not my thing so i am not an expert on dungeoneering in this game.
I generally won’t use explosives until they fix them, their recent nerf to explosive radius wasn’t the only mistake they made with that system, until they return it to it’s original radius and fix the damage delay and autoattack problems, it will remain useless as a kit.
I have only 20 points in firearms which gives me an added bonus of increasing my elixir downtimes while still reducing the cd of abilities on my EG.
I use 20 points in alchemy because it has the best options for elixirs and elixir guns. the duration and/or cd of elixirs are a great choice for curing conds. I usually use things like backpack regen when in a fight that doesn’t require cures constantly.
Right now I am loving healing this way I hope they don’t change a thing.
When I’m talking about healing toughness vit gear, I’m actually talking about combining different exotic pieces like clerics (heal/power/tough) and hotw exotic (heal/vit/precision) so I would get 10 prevent heal bonus from power plus I’d have decent power and crit for the bombs. But anyways, I’m still set for around 1200 healing, I’m sure I can reach it with water runes. But yea I was hoping that someone here is already with a simmilar goal or already has it.

I have to agree with this guy’s post.
I play Engineer alot, along side with my other 4 Classes.
This game doesnt work the same way as other mmos you are used to.
You want to focus on dealing “Damage”, staying in “Control” and being able to “Support” youself.
Support isnt all about “healing”, its many other factors. Same goes with Control.
If you dont coordinate Control/Support with ur team while contributing in “Damage” then you are only a liability. Not an asset to the Party.
To the OP:
I play in “Borlis Pass” server, if you play on that server, PM me and I’ll be happy to show u some stuff if you want. =)
And I thought there is not so many healing engis.
I have exlixir gun / bomb kit / elixir which gives you back endurance and can ress teammates (not sure what its called now). Stats I try to go condition / toughness / healing power and I use pistol / shield. This way I can get conditions down, heal, do some CC. I like it, not sure if its so useful as I like to think.
Traits are 10/20/30/0/10, kit refinement and elixir gun cool downs traits, of course I have healing bombs and cool down traits also for shield and pistol. That allows me to use a lot of slow / swiftness (elixir gun), getting conditions down and blind (pistol), also daze and push back with shield.
Yes.
A moose. It was a moose.

I see what you are saying, in not just healing ppl. In full support majoring in heal power. I might not do as much damage as full condition crit power or whatever engineer but I can support my team an help them survive and deal damage.
For example:
Doing skill combos like area might, area invisibility
Also removing mad conditions
Keeping voulnerability on enemies
Blinding enemies
confusing enemies
Crowd control with slowing mobs down and immobilizing them
Keeping constant regen pulses on my whole party
Reviving mates with belt skill elixir x, if I’m not wrong
And other
As you can see I’m not just tanking about sitting back and using elixir gun…
Oh and yea I’m also on borlis pass, maybe we should get together and run some dungeons. Or even wvw, I haven’t had decent size group to test out my build.
I have 1281 healing power, making ticks of ~660 with elixir gun and something around 300 with any regeneration. Rune of water in my pistol is healing for 518 (I don’t like this number :<). I removed almost all condition damage, leaving only rampager pistols and +300 from traits. I’m blinding and crippling whatever I can, keeping permapoison and/or permaweakness when needed. The only problem might be people escaping from my heals, no matter how I’m aiming, it’s landing next to them because they suddenly decide to run away/dodge when I’m trying to catch everyone in my range. Most of people are better at dodging heals/boons than their enemies -.-

Dont worry about healing people much. Just try to heal yourself and whoever near you. All classes are all self-effeciant. With that said in mind, You are nobody’s babysitter. If your team keeps dying, and you are not, its most probably because your team isn’t doing well.
Even if you do a good job, if your team is not working with you as for coordination in Control/Support, and all they do is spam random skills for DPS, then you might want to consider finding a new team who are willing to actually coop with you.
=) Other than that, I wouldnt worry about healing people much. If you can, Great! But dont worry if you miss it, dont let that be main focus.
Remember, there are no main healers, we are No babysitters.

I have 125 Healpower and my ticks from Elixier gun are at 405. Got my point? Not worth to stack healpower.

^ This.
I have usually around 500 in healing. 300 from Inventions trait line and ~200 or so just on some balanced stat sets I use (for when I’m making odd builds that don’t have great synergy and require odd stat combinations).
I’m always last to die (if I even do). I can easily keep myself alive alone while my group is having to run back from some Waypoint. My heals are strong enough to keep them going, but they seem to never notice the med kits floating in air or giant mist circles on the ground that heal them lol. All they have to do is run over it.
A lot of dungeon content is designed to take out self-sufficient players if no one bothers to do any support/control. Usually, it just works out that your team is doing support/control for themself and it ends up helping the group.
If they actually have the mindset to use their skills for allies, that is just all that more efficient.
In encounters that spawn tons of adds or lots of AoE all over the floor, our healing can keep everyone alive. In those cases, I stop all DPS (I would have to anyway even just keeping me alive) and spam the healing everywhere. This allows them to use my heals and save their heals longer (or stagger them better). They can continue to DPS or what not, and have their heal ready more often when the next wave happens (which is usually the part that kills people, since they used up all their self-sufficient tricks and still were on cooldown).
I find 1-2 players supporting a bit more during those times is better than 5 players just running around like chickens waiting for an opening to resume attacking and cooldowns to end.
Besides, I love using the Elixir Gun #4 ability on a Boss. They stand on it taking all the ticks of damage. Wonderful. Support just happens to be my favorite DPS build as well.
