Tool kit what if ...
Fractal lvl 80 – 126 AR
I agree on the repair siege bit, it would be cool for engineers.
But saying that tool kit is only good for repairing turrets and pulling of walls, I do not agree with at all.
Cripple fields, very hard hitting attacks on power builds, confusion, and best of all: 3 sec block on 20 or 16 seconds.
Those are pretty fun as well in my book.
But yes on the repairing siege
No on repairing siege, Tool kit is fine, plznot2touch.
Repairing without supply cost would be overpowered, imho. Still, they could do some other effect. Like, giving protection and might to siege weapons.
Makes sense to me. Its not like it would be the only WvW focused skill in the game. Take portal for example, its almost exclusively a WvW skill, only other use it has it cheating people past dungeon content or cheating people to the end of jump puzzles.
Besides the repair amount each swing gives is pretty weak, even by our turrets low hp standard. It would take several engineers a long time to fully repair a siege weapon from even half hp. And doing so while its taking damage from another siege weapon be pointless.
How can you say Tool Kit ain’t good!?! :O It’s like the most perfectly balanced Kit we have acces to!
It’s an amazing utility skill!
WvW Roaming movies!
I would like to see damage increased on the auto attack. As it currently stands I never use it.
Tool kit is pretty kitten awesome, the only skill that is lackluster is the auto attack due to super slow swing time.

repairing siege would be great… would love to hear a commander yelling “quick! engis repair that treb!” that would be awesome
1. Perma cripple when traited with Power wrench.
2 . Prybar confusion + awesome damage.
3. 4 secs block (I actually think it’s 5)
4. Magnet Pulll
How can you not call that amazing? And I doubt Anet would give a single class to have the lone ability which is only usable in WvW. All other classes will start crying and ask for a WvW only skill as well.
@MrSilver
I don’t know what you’re doing, maybe you didn’t even really try but toolkit can hit harder than a rifle…
Using a Zerker Rifle with no sigil at 1696 power, Smack and Whack deals 489 damage + 6secs of vulnerability (.5 casting time) while Thwack deals 1,070 damage (1 sec casting). Rifle #1 though deals 472 damage (.75secs casting).
Usually I’d just dive into the enemy zerg and drop bombs then switch to my toolkit for AoE cripples. Deals decent damage too.
Tool Kit’s “throw wrench” is also a major damage-dealer for SD builds. I often chalk up close to 4k in damage — and it’s on a short cool-down.

You mean 8k (in and out)
One issue with this is that an engg would just swap to that kit and back and needed to repair seige. You wouldn’t need to invest in toolkit, it would just be another thing you swap to and swap back from when you’re done with it.
Toolkit is an excellent kit for WvW though, as well as sPvP. In PvE it’s not quite as valuable since the opponents are AI controlled, but it still has uses. A lot of builds that I run end up using this.
And it’s a 3 second block, not 4 or 5. 4 or 5 would be crazy.
Throw wrench is also a guaranteed projectile finisher that can hit twice.

I dunno, have someone help you test it in PvP and you’ll see it looks like that it blocks for like 4-5 secs. And there was a patch where they increased Gear Shield duration by 1 second where they probably missed updating the tooltip.
Shield off-hand #5 blocks for 2 seconds while allowing you to attack/heal/stomp. 4 seconds gear shield isn’t OP if you compare it to that.

The Tool Kit is already a must-have.

It is also a 100% projectile finisher.

That update increased the duration of gear shield up from 2 seconds to 3 seconds. It used to be a 2 second block, now it’s three. That’s one of the things that caused people to start taking toolkit, along with the magnet and pry bar buffs.
The gear shield block is essentially the same as the warrior shield block, although it has a lower CD.
Making it the shortest cooldown block engineers have. Now if only Reinforced Shield applied to Tool Kit.
The only thing I’d like to improve on the tool kit is the box of nails. That is the only skill that kind of sucks.
The auto attack damage is decent. It ain’t the bomb kit, but it has its place. The Pry bar is really useful in both sPVP and WvW. Just whack them for a comparatively long duration confusion, and decent direct damage, too. The Gear Shield is a pretty awesome invulnerability, and the magnet is good for pulling people.
There’s only two things they need to change on toolkit:
- add a kit refinement shield of some type, one that will handle both ranged and melee damage and please make it 5 seconds, even the mobs enjoy their shields for more than 2
- change the cast time of the caltrops to as fast as the traited thief can throw them when they dodge. dunno about the rest of you but when i drop a box of nails it doesn’t fall in slow motion to the ground.
I use tool kit a lot and I love it.
The only change I would make is to make the thrid hit AoE and slightly faster on the 1 skill, and to potentially make the 3 skill AoE, so it matches the melee skill set on other professions a little bit better.
With those changes you could really play front line more with tool kit in WvW and team play, with the benefit of not being stuck with a lot of multi hit attacks.
It’s the kits lack of AoE on the key dps hits thats my big issue. But I use it none the less.
