Magnet Pull is such a great skill in PvP/WvW!

Sadly, It is way more efficient in sPvP then WvW.

When I go back to WvW, magnet pull is really chunky and miss like 50% of the time. Sometime it pulls people halfway, pull them in another direction (!?), doesn’t pull them at all, pull them somewhere, then lag out and pop out somewhere else. And sometime it just throw them in the air, it’s pretty funny!

If they could work it out a bit in WvW, it would be awesome!

Fun things you can do number 42: Pull them out of their zerg then punt them into your own Zerg. Yea its kinda cool. I often use it at close range as a general knockdown also.

If I notice no one has any pulling abilities, this is something I always disengage and equip for this specific reason. Cleaning the keep out is demoralizing.

It hardly works. Ive stopped even trying with it. The only time it WILL work ( and alot of the time it bugs out, or just doesnt grab them for some reason) is during head on fights, or when they are in range on a flat, open surface. Ive had it fail when theres a bloody hill in the environment, even though they are in range and are fully exposed. IDK, they need to work with it more. But hey, its ANet, they dont look at any engineer forums.

On top of walls, there is a little railing they cannot be pulled over if they are behind it. If they are on top it will succeed at pulling them, but if they are behind it it simply will not work. Therefore, it’s not going to pull people down off keep walls all the time. On top of that, it has a long cast time and obviously won’t work on invuln, Stability buffed, or evading targets. I’ve honestly never experienced it flat out bug, but then I don’t use it that regularly. Maybe a total of 5 hrs a week total, if that.

When I played my Engi in WvW I found the magnet to be really effective. You have to look for those players that over extend on top of a keep, getting right to the edge, which happens all the time. I would pull them down, and as they were falling swap to rifle running forward, then spin and overcharged shot them into your siege force. Dead defender more often then not.

It was also great to pull stragglers running away from your group.

I’ll admit that I’m really addicted to Magnet Pull in WvWvW even though it has issues. I often use it for pulling someone into our forces or pulling someone off a ledge (if they are standing o top of the wall ledge). Odd that people can be pulled off ledges but if there’s hilly terrain it will only pull them half way, if at all. A lot of times it seems I end up missing because the target is out of range. And then the skill goes on cooldown anyway, which is pretty annoying since there’s no real good way of gauging range with that skill.

The oddest, most bugged thing I’ve seen is pulling someone running away, they end up in front of me and before I can hit them they are suddenly way further ahead than before I pulled them.

It’s so satisfying pulling someone off the wall and then CC’ing him in WvW. Think the reason why some guys get pulled halfway on open terrain is because they dodged right when you pulled them. This used to work with risen putrifiers as well.

Have a laugh and try out mortar #5 (launch concussion barrage) on a wall. They’ll fall off even if they’re behind the ledge.

The most effective way to utilize Magnet is:

Magnet → Net Shot → Blunderbuss → Grenade Barrage → Jump Shot to the opposite side → Overcharged Shot →Freeze Grenade → You did something wrong if they’re not dead yet, but, you have a chilled target and can still use shrapnel grenade, and net shot is probably 2-3 seconds away from coming off cooldown.

Tip: If you’re tired of it not pulling people off walls because of the ledge, jump before it finishes channeling(you should try jumping everytime really, it helps with hills too.)

As for it not working right, sometimes it takes a few seconds for the server to register the displacement, same as treb/mortar/catapult shots, its similar to culling, so keep shooting the air where they should be.

My favorite is when you pull someone when there is a little ledge or obstrucion on the ground in front of you and they go flying straight up into the air.
Then its just a matter of awesome timing and you can use PBR or Overcharged Shot to punt them before they land.

I think my favorite thing is when you pull a ranger or thief, they stealth (rangers stealth on disable, although I can never tell if Magnet or another player is triggering that trait), you fire net shot – and it disappears right where they’re standing. I wonder where that grenade barrage combo is about to land~

That little horseshoe magnet of mine has wracked up an outstanding death toll.
It also has the bonus of being coupled with the Gear Shield, and and Box o’ Nails.

If you really want to be mean, pull someone with magnet, toolbelt net, net turret, supply drop (timed immediately after the net turret fires, net shot (rifle). If really necessary, throw in Slick Shoes.
Use when you want 1 person to be really, REALLY dead.

Edit: This is the “I don’t feel like trying” set-up for me.

When using magnet terrian comes into play thats why at times when you try to pull someone they dont come all the way .Or flop ten feet in the air landing at ur feet . I love that .
In Spvp terrian is all pretty much smooth while in WvW it has its lumps.

I don’t know what problem people have with Magnet in WvW not working, every now and then I spend a few hours messing with people and it always works when it should.
And yes, Magnet-Net Shot-Overcharged Shot is fantastic, even in ZvZ, since then once you get up, yourself nearly being in the enemy zerg, you pull out the Gear Shield and run back to your zerg, which has long since murdered the poor kitten you pulled.

Also, skill cancelling is must practice for magnet use.
