With the new October 1st patch, all our weapon kits now have a saved Autoattack, meaning we can actually make a somewhat legit melee build.

What are some opinions in using the Toolkit as a legit form of combat? There’s a lot you can do with it if you mix it in with Bomb kit. Also the magnetic pull can pull targets OFF of ledges, capture points, etc.

Also, a few questions about the Toolkit as I haven’t had much a chance to test it. Does Gear Shield block all forms of all attacks? Also does it benefit from the trait Reinforced Shield (for the 20% reduction in cooldown).

The Toolkit looks to have quite a lot of power in it, so does anyone know of some builds that would be useful for it?

Tried a build.

Rifle, Elixir H, Tool kit, Elixir B, Elixir R

Was fine for solo targets, but honestly, still not as good as grenade build.

I want to use it I do… but I can’t. I can’t.

Then don’t. It is not for everyone. I like it for utility damage and control. I have AoE cantrips X2 that do AoE cripple and add to my bleed stacks. The throw wrench does great damage X2 and is a ranged cripple for me. I will swap to it for the dodge.

Once you have used the various kits to the point that you know exactly where in the line each skill is and what it does, it becomes second nature to quick swap for the one or two you need in varying given situations.

It is absolutely not for everyone, stick with the benefits grenades offer you, and those of us who find value in the other kits can use them.

Poor craftsman blame their tools. Poor players blame their Engineer.

I gonna try out a 0 30 10 0 30 tools build with tool kit tonight and see how it feels.

I personally do not like elixirs all that much so I stay away.

I’m going to use rifle – healing turret – tool kit – rifle turret – utility goggles / elixir S

The gear setup will be 3 berzerkers + berzerker rifle. Valkyrie, with carrion trinkets.

For the run set I will use centaur (kind of want to try it with orges to)

The reason I run it hybrid with a little + condi damage is I noticed it’s easy to get 10-12 bleed stacks up using box of nails, + blunder buss. With rifle turret I can get that to almost 15. You also have the confusion on the crow bar. It’ll easily do 1100 with just traits and then an extra added bit.

I lose a little bit off the upper end damage but not to much. Also since I am 30 rifle I have the 25 minor trait that gives the +5% to a bleeding target.

Although it is tempting to use elixir U in place of the rifle turret. That could give some very nice burst from the 1 ability + fast magnet.

Tool kit does offer some advantages to grenade kit. You can get really nice cripple up time, and the channeled block is fantastic imo.

I really like the instant box of nails with kit refinement. Throw wrench is also a great tool belt ability. It is not as heavy of a burst ability as grenade barrage but it is a projectile finishers that hits twice, that cripples with trait on a 20s CD!

you are going to have a hard time with the toolkit, beserker gear and a 0 30 10 0 30 build.
beeing that close to enemies usualy means loads of damage u cant realy avoid nor mitigate through armor. the numbers you will get the the third #1 attack might make up for it though

I personaly like the toolkit but it’s baseatacks and casttimes in general realy need to be way faster or stronger then they currently are. for a close range weapon it just feels pretty underpowered. I also glady trade the vulnerability for a bleed.

I’ve gotten fairly good at staying alive in melee. But notice that I am not using full berzerkers, but a mix. I’ll have fairly decent vit / toughness thanks to the Valkyrie / carrion gear

Elixir S + the channeled block and adrenal implants for added endurance regen works really well.

I intend to use it as a WvW roaming build. So I can a afford to be a little more squikittenhan I would if I was in a spvp 5v5.

What I am thinking is with elixir U you could do a fast magnet with almost no telegraphing into a fast 3 hits from the #1 and then use the #3 and swap to rifle for the knock back + jumpshot blunder buss. If they are not on their toes or burn a stun break that should be enough burst to drop most players.

I posted a build here (second message) that uses the tool belt with PBR and Elixir S for sPvP. Been working quite well over the past few days. Discussion is throughout the thread. One additional thing I noticed (which is probably a glitch) is that you can throw the toolkit on after using Elixir S and whack on people a bit while you are invulnerable. Little trick that turns the tide in a really close fight (i.e. burst fights with thieves). It’s been alot of fun, so I hope it helps you out.
