Hey all,

I’m doing a come back on my Engineer. It’s still my first love.

With the recent nerf to Grenade, I changed my build a bit.

I’m going 30 points in Tools, but I find Tools Grandmaster traits to be kinda lack luster.

Armor Mods -> Retalition for 3/5 sec when you receive a critical hit. (25 sec ICD)

  • I’m not sure of the duration since I’m not at home. Wiki list it at 5 sec, while my traits builder list it at 3 sec. Am I the only one that think 5 seconde of retaliation every 25 sec is really lack luster? On my necro, I can get a free retalition buff for 3 sec when I use DS for 10 points in spite. I’m not even sure I would use it if it was a minor traits. It’s also pretty boring.

Adrenaline Implant -> 50% endurance regen

  • This trait is really boring. A flat 50% endurance regen. The dev were bored and decided to go for a simple trait? Even worse, Ranger got the SAME trait, for their first FIVE traits. The same exact trait.

What do you guys think? I am missing something?

Yes I fully agree.
These traits are lackluster and entirely boring.
There are much better ways to get Retailiation without having to get criticalled (hm? real word!?)

And with the Vigor on swiftness trait AI is kinda useless, imo. If you are doing damage inbetween dodging the increase will end up wasted. Itll only save you in the cases where you want to dodge 5-6 times in a row with Elixir R.

Adrenaline Implant is fine. It’s pretty strong for perma-semi-vigor, you get a strong defensive trait while getting many points put into a damage tree.

Armor mods is one of the dumbest pieces of crap ever though. Whoever put that there needs to get their head checked. Even if this POS gave perma-retaliation, it’d still never see use except in a hyper-niche situation: Like if I saw a flamethrower coming through the door on a keep I’m assaulting, so I could make that guy’s life a nightmare for a brief few moments.

fwiw, most of the people who even know that flamethrower can do that will also likely have lifesteal on crit and high crit chance… so that retal only makes you use your heal on cd at worst.

I agree with these people.

Adrenaline Implants is great on the engineer. While the ranger does get the exact same trait for only 10 trait points I feel like an engineer can make it go farther, especially if you are already stacking perma-vigor.

Armor mods however, is lackluster. The warrior’s retaliation grandmaster trait is 5 seconds of retaliation every 15 seconds. That’s a 1/3 uptime compared to our 1/5 (well it would be 1/5 if it worked properly). I get that the warrior should have more retaliation but the difference is so big that there really is no point. Imo it should add more retaliation or have it give retaliation on gadget or kit use.

Armor mods could be changed into critical projectile reflection with cooldown of 25-30s. Single projectile reflected, no matter if someone is using volleys and chain shots

Adrenaline Implant isn’t bad, but it isn’t GrandMaster Trait material.

Ranger have the same traits for 5 points, and we need 30 point for it. They could just swap it with another traits lower and boost the new one, or boost it to 100% regen.

Would still be boring, but it would be incredible.

Vigoir + 100% regen + 10% on toolbelt use!

you’re not missing a single thing. It’s like they started off in developement with the engineer traits and then did the traits of the other classes never returning to fix the engineer traits before releasing the game. There are traits other classes get for free pretty much because they aren’t grandmaster traits that engineers have to spend extra on useless lines just to access. There are traits in the lines on the engineer that don’t belong in the lines they are in (Elixir Infused Bombs) that really don’t have any staying power but somehow they are deemed “too powerful” so they have to be grandmaster. Much of what goes on in this class looks like it’s been thrown together at the last minute rather then thought through to make it as harmonious and fluid as possible before launch. I’ve noticed it because I play lots of alts and it’s a serious injustice to this class to leave it like it is now.
