Hi there, im an Engineer and i play with Full Toughness Build (Point Defender)
My gear is:

-Vatlaaw full armor (Prec+Cond+Tough)
-Superior Rune of the Earth (6/6)
-Dragonshot (Pistol (Prec+Cond+Tough))
-Jora’s Defender (Shield (Prec+Cond+Tough))
-Coral Necklace (Pow+Prec+Cond (Crest of the Rabid))
-Emerald Earring x2 (Pow
Prec+Tough (Crest of the Rabid))
-Coral Earring x2 (Pow
Prec+Cond (+Crest of the Rabid))

The people kill me so fast and i dont know why they have that EXPLOSIVE damage against me. I dont know where is the problem, or what im doing wrong :S

Toughness without vit. Not a good idea. You have 17k health. You should honestly aim for something like 22k. Max is 27-28k.

Basically, you have good damage reduction, but you have the minimum amount of possible health for an engineer. Also, condition damage ignores toughness (but it’s also weaker than power/crit), so if someone burns/bleeds you, you’ll have issues.

Eidt: If you’re going for point defender, you should have 25-28k health or serious +healing gear and multiple heal skills (in addition to lots of cc, which is a given).

The VIT doesn’t matter, because the people are dealing to me damage around 5-10k

WTF happends if im naked? I can take hits around 90k damage? This game is NOT balanced in PvP aspect.

A point defender needs more toughness (knight set may be) and vitality. With this stats you should be very much mobile to stay alive but then it will not be a point defender by defination.
If you change jewelery to emerald exotics you can get 2k toughness also get more condi removal (if you do not have) because you have low health pool against that

To be honest for survivability your traits and utilities are more important then you base stats.

For example running full alchemy traits with protection injection can net you perma protection.

That’s a base 33% damage reduction to everything except conditions. Add in the extra condition removal and your going to be extremely survivable.

Also you may want to look at getting more + healing depending on your build. You can get a lot of added survivability off of a trait like back re-generator + normal regeneration when they are both ticking for ~300 and you have a light field down, or if you set off an AOE healing combo. It’ll also move your heal from ~4-5000 to closer to ~6-7000.

Makes a huge difference.

I’ve also noticed that you are typically better off mixing and matching sets. Tossing in 3-4 pieces of carrion or shaman gear can up your plus healing or vitality without to much toughness loss.

Or you can get the armor from orr that gives vit / toughness / power.

But even with tons of HP toughness, healing, and protection if 2-3 people want you dead you will die as an engineer.

Once you’ve burned your 2 blocks, elixir S, your AoE blind, and then depending on spec your other CC / defensive abilities your a sitting duck.

If you get good at rotating defensive abilities blind – block – block – dodge – (other CC ability) blind – block – block …

You can mitigate a lot of incoming damage as well.

But most of the time you need to know which abilities hit for 5k + and be able to spot the animations for a quick dodge or CC.

With a lot of builds there are only 1-2 hard hitting abilities like warrior rifle, if you avoid the burst move you wont take much damage until it’s up again.

hes talking wvw.

my response for that is:
They killed you that fast, because you didn’t kill them faster.
power, crit, crit damage is kindof out of whack with toughness, vit

Add quickness into the mix and its even worse.

I would agree blind/dodge/block/evade is more important then toughness.

Being able to avoid incoming damage is infinitely better than absorbing it.

This is even more apparent in WvW, because with only 2 dodges in your pocket, and maybe a smoke bomb… you can’t avoid 5 or 10 guys raining damage on you.
