Trying to learn engi. Need noob build
More practice it sounds like. 6/2/0/4/2 using carrion armor and all pvt trinkets would probably be a good start. Switch out the trinkets for more of a punch when you get a little better at moving while you fight.

Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
Sounds like you just need to practice! Good Engi builds take vigor and/or Energy Sigil for more dodges because dodging is key! But if you forget to dodge then no build can save you! Good Engi builds also use multiple kits! A build that doesn’t run any kits will be vastly inferior to a build that does! If you want to get good with Engi, practice running a build with multiple kits! You’ll never get better at Engi if you cop out and run an easier (and inferior) build with 1 or no kits!

Thanks for the advice!
Is mastering grenades pretty much mandatory? I’ve found that the inability to target a person directly, no auto-attack option on 1, and the somewhat slow projectile speed makes it extremely difficult to land hits on players. I’ve watched a few engi videos, and it seems like people are just hitting like it’s no big deal. I suppose that’s the reward of practice. Or is there some trick to it that I’m not seeing due to inexperience?

Even though grenades have a 1500 range, it’s better to auto attack with your weapon or Elixir Gun and proc Incendiary Power than to straight up toss grenades at longer ranges because of what you just said! They are just thuper ez to dodge! Grenades work best at short to medium range! However as you play more and get better you’ll be able to calculate where to throw your grenades on a moving target without even realizing it!
Offensively grenade and bomb kit are our best kits! I would highly recommend mastering these kits if you plan on dealing damage!

Yes, it is. A lot of engie stuff requires some practice. Play the class extensively for ~2 week, try different builds (wolfineer.com is pretty much mandatory), you’ll notice you’re improving.
Kits you should learn to play well:
Offense:
Grenade
Bomb
Defense:
Elixir Gun
Tool Kit
You will typically take at least 2 kits if not 3.
Armor to start tends to be condition based imho.
Pistol/Shield is the combination of weapons to give you the greatest opportunity and combinations.
If you’re like me and absolutely hate grenades, bomb kit actually works wonders in solo queue. You’d really be surprised how many people chase after you while you drop bombs, sit in fire spots, etc. Bomb kit absolutely decimates “the bads” in pvp.
I’m getting better at nades, but I normally play holding the right mouse button to turn. It’s throwing me off how I need to release mouse lock to throw a nade accurately.
I tried bombs a few times in sPVP, but usually I just get owned too fast to learn anything. Not sure what the deal is there.

why do you recommend that spread of armor/trinkets?
what are the benefits to it over say full rabid, rabid/dire/carrion mix, full pvt, full knights, or pvt/knight/zerk mix?
