I know turrets don’t factor power in to their damage (what I didn’t realize until recently is that they have static damage rather than a range). So why do their tooltips factor power and adjust displayed “damage” accordingly?

This was only introduced recently, around the same time as they removed Bleed from Rifle Turret (replaced with Vulnerability) and Burn from Rocket Turret’s regular attacks.
Personally, I’m hoping this is an indication of what they’ve got planned; I’ve been wishing Turrets would scale to Power for quite some time. Without scaling, they fall flat at 80+, while occasionally being absurd very early in.

Personally, I’m hoping this is an indication of what they’ve got planned; I’ve been wishing Turrets would scale to Power for quite some time. Without scaling, they fall flat at 80+, while occasionally being absurd very early in.

I really hope you’re right. I didn’t realize it only cropped up recently. Honestly, I swear I remember seeing tooltips scale back when I created my engi last year. I hope we find out with the balance pass. Isn’t it planned for Dec. 10?

There’s a balance patch planned for 12/10, yes. It’s also entirely possible that they just managed to break the tooltips, though the fact that the tooltips scale is somewhat difficult to explain, unless they’ve managed to sink to new depths of “How the hell did you break that?” by somehow copying the scaling of another skill.

I’m not sure about that. All scaling takes is a coefficient to regulate scale, and a call to the relevant stat. Code-wise, that’s not hard, especially if you look at the formula used to determine non-burst utility damage already in use:
Damage = Utility strength * Power * Skill coefficient / Armor

Breaking the tooltips is easy. All it takes is a coder telling them to read a variable from an actor instead of reflecting a static value. This is especially likely since they were just elbow deep in turret ranges with the last patch.

But this is something turrets need bad. I mean, come on: Static damage as opposed to range with NO crit, no stat factoring (except healing turret), an obscenely low damage scale at higher levels, survivability based on hit points instead of armor, and an apparent hate generation high enough to tear a champ away from hate tanks to yell “OOOO TURRET” and drop its strongest AoEs on the lone clockwork the second it’s deployed (honestly, I used this fact a few times during Molten Facility to draw fire to an unpopulated area of the boss arena reliably).

CMs? Devs? Janitors not shredding memos as instructed? Anyone?
