Turrets will target your target?
I don’t see how its bad. There have been many times when I have used them only to watch them shoot at anyone and anything but the guy I want shot. Having more control over turrets is a step in making them truly viable.
Advantages:
*Turrets will no longer attack random corners due to invisible objects.
*Turrets will now be capable of focusing on environmental objects like dragons (hopefully)
*Turrets will be more powerful when fighting against MMs, mesmers, and spirit rangers
Disadvantages:
*Turrets can no longer help your teammates when you are on the other side of the map
*Turrets will now have to deal with targeting issues that players do.
*Turrets no longer work as a proximity alarm.
Overall, I’d guess it was a buff.
I’m thinking they’ll still auto target/attack normally right up until you start attacking a target.
Thought even if they don’t auto target anymore I guess its a buff still
I hope they fix some bugs with turrets at the same time.
In theory, this may indirectly resolve the issue of Turrets not attacking World Bosses.
I’ll be sure to test it, I assure you.
Aside from that…I, too, hope they fix the other nineteen bugs we’ve got on Turrets alone.
Apparently, Turrets will be attacking your own target come the new patch.

Thoughts?
This is a massive buff. Turrets were previously unusable in WvW because they attacked npcs and gates (yes, gates, even net turret). They’ve also been unusable in PvP for a while because some of the most popular builds of the last 6 months have had between 3 and 7 minions out at a time, effectively making almost every turret useless.
Probably won’t help PvE turrets that much but surely it will allow them to attack world bosses. It certainly won’t hurt them.
It’s not that this is a buff; it’s that turret builds are now possible. I don’t know if they’ll be strong or weak yet, but they can exist now!
Oh, Turret builds could exist before this. I’ve been using one for most of my playtime, after all.
Things that make them cumbersome: Plethora of bugs and lack of scaling for the Turrets themselves, massive trait cost (60 points for all Turret traits) to the user.
I’m going to hope that this patch involves some bugfixes, at the very least; I’m a bit too pessimistic to hope that it’ll include trait consolidation or scaling improvements. One way or another, this will likely improve my DPS – as long as they don’t nerf turrets in the process.
Also, I have to wonder if the way this will be handled will be such that I can, say, throw out my turrets, get a good hiding place and target an enemy from a distance, causing the turrets to assault.
