Twitch Livestream
For those of us who were working during this live stream, did anybody record this?
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
They’ve got a recording of the chat on their official Twitch channel . There’s a thread to ask questions for the later chat that starts in a bit less than one and a half hours. Some engineer questions have already been posted.

There you go.
Nothing interesting though.
“You know all classes are viable hurr durr”.
i wouldnt of minded the statement about damage reduction to aoe IF they had said they would look at reducing SOME of the single target damage skills.
“Only two classes have access to stealth, Mesmers and Thieves.”
Says a lot about the dev’s concern for Engineers….
I posted the following in the Twitch question thread regarding Engineers:
In recent months fewer and fewer people are playing Engineers. One of the reasons for this is that in the December 14th update Engineers had their Grenade 1 damage reduced by 30%. The stated reason for this change was because Kits could now benefit from the use of Sigils. How exactly do Sigils make up for a 30% nerf and will this change be looked at or reversed in the future?
I hope it gets answered.

My guess, if they nerf aoe across the board they will surely hit the grenadekit, bombkit and possibly even the flamethrower.
And when they talk about buffing weaker traits and professions with few build options, they are talking about Elementalist and Rangers.

Grenades still too op, another 30% reduction is in order? lol
@Terrahero.9358
Actually I think they are talking about thieves, the most reasonable considering they are almost useless in dungeons, stuck on single target spike OR single target DoT spike (lol)… elementalists low options? that’s simply because D/D beats everything isn’t it? I’d say they have almost the same variety engineer has, well a lil less variety, but that’s HUGE anyway, I mean… the number of builds you could come up with…
Thieves only use stealth efficiently as utility and in my opinion they can’t access anything as close as the utility those give, but considering stealth also isn’t very effective in pve, well… you can see they are left with nothing but builds to get ppl mad in pvp/wvw isn’t it?
About rangers… yea, pretty much, need better utilities.
In all seriousness though, we should be getting buff too if they want every class to have 5-6 good builds. At the moment, it seems the only two good builds that stand out and are generally agreed to be good are the tanky ones (aka such tankcat) and static discharge builds.
Edit: also if other classes are getting portal, seems like engineers are the best candidates to get one

There were several questions on the thread regarding Engineers with five people chain-agreeing to a question. They don’t even mention the term “engineer”.

Rifle and Pistol damage will have to be reduced 30% to compensate.
@Penguin.5197
What are you talking about?
There’s tankcat, static discharge, AoE kit swappers, 4-kits, grenadiers, immobilize-bunkers, swap might stacking, elixir might stacking, FT might stacking AND turrets (though sub-par due to bugs atm), do you actually complain about variety?
swap might stacking, elixir might stacking, FT might stacking AND turrets
He said “GOOD builds”.
Meh. Same as way back in WAR. Shame.
1 conclusion from the twitch stream – do not expect any changes for the engineer in the nearest future, they are more concerned about other things.
Engineer is a class that’s suffering the most in pvp atm, it’s gotten to the point, when people from higher ranks see 2 engineers in their team in random tournament queues, they instanly go afk saying we have no chance of winning ( happened to me 4 times already), every day fewer players play the class in pvp, hopefully, when the number drops to the point of no return, the devs will finally realise, how much did they miss about this god forsaken profession.
Somebody said to me once(a guild mate): Engineers can be described in 3 simple points( when it comes to pvp)
1. worst damage output – condition builds can’t get as many stacks of bleeds as other classes for example, rifle build is nothing when compared to burst of other professions
2. mostly bugged – the amount of bugs is insane
3. Worst skills of every profession – elite skills – only 1 viable in pvp, no choice what so ever, normal skills, 60% of the skills aren’t even used.
I lost my hope long time ago and rerolled mesmer, but i left my engineer and didn’t deleted him yet, means i probably have a little bit of hope in me, guess the future patch notes will show, whether it was for the right reasons.

Ow, and how does that differ from all the options every other profession has? Ow whats that? They dont play them because one or two builds are flat out better?
Aw that must suck, having one or two builds that perform so amazing you dont want to play anything else. For Engineer we got a lot of choices in the poison we take… Truely, envy us.
@Terrahero.9358
They aren’t flat out better man, most engineers here didn’t even play ALL those builds in both pvp and pve.
We are the only class that can bring extreme utility to the team without sacrificing much damage, how awesome is that? We have some of the best skills in dealing with multiple opponents, many meanings of stomping AND plenty of blowouts, knockbacks and the best pull in the game, and a lot of condition pressure AND removal, don’t compare classes just focusing on damage.

What damage do we have to sacrifice?
@Thenoob.1480
Usually people have to choose EG or FT and that makes a huge difference by itself, but that aside most traits that involve utility aren’t in power/prec lines and to make those builds effective you are often stuck on equipments (amulets or entire armors) dedicated on specific stats.
have they even MENTIONED anything about Engineers? All I hear is talk about Thieves, Mesmers, Eles, and Warriors
holy crap…the crap trinity is really getting crapped on, Maybe we should expand our Engineer Guild to include Rangers and Necromancers….

Okay, stopped right there. Obviously you’ve never played any other profession. Go give Elementalist a try, or a Guardian, or a Mesmer, or hell a Necro. They got you beat on this department, both hands tied behind their backs.

“A lot of classes have 1-2 good builds while some have 5-6 builds , we want to bring up all the classes to 5-6 good and viable builds.”
Yes we have plenty of builds, but he is not just talking about builds. He is talking about good and viable builds. You mentioned Grenadier as a build, but is it really viable? something you would want to use in most situations? probably not in the current way it is.
@Penguin.5197
Kits as they are now are obviously meant for a quick swap to land some utility or damage depending on the situation, I don’t play any of the conventional builds btw yet I actually do more than what you consider “best”.
You guys are not even trying, you picked a couple of builds on the internet and settled with those instead of experimenting some more and get one of your own that fits your playstyle.
And btw Tankcat isn’t THAT strong, it’s only used for holding points in WvW, if SMART ppl actually used some immobilize/pull they’d see how far the cat runs, and btw it got nerfed (retaliation duration).
You mentioned Grenadier as a build, but is it really viable?
IMO Grenadier is definitely not a viable build anymore, atleast in WvW. The damage is just too low.
Kits as they are now are obviously meant for a quick swap to land some utility or damage depending on the situation, … (snip)
Is there a dev post that says the grenadier build is only supposed to “quick swap” for utility? What would be the point of a grenadier build if grenades are not your primary method for inflicting damage? (serious question)
