What is this used for? Can I replace it with better back gear without losing any of my functionality as a Engineer? I hope that I am not stuck with this because of needed tools.

Yes, you can. There are several types of back-equipped items that you can find on the Trading Post. Also available is the guild backpack which can be purchased through your guild armorer, if applicable. Ah, and you can get some through your personal story line as well (not untill lvl 70+ though).

Having a backpiece is not mandatory, though it does provide you with an extra upgrade slot, that you may or may not find useful.

Thanks, I was not sure if I would lose some of my tools if I replaced it, since it said “Tool Pack”. Basically, it is there for looks I suppose.

I would put it in your bank in case you ever want that look again. See the very long thread about whether or not you can get it back.

Its useless unless you want to transmute it over and over again. However it doesn’t look that great. I destroyed my engineer toolpack, guardians pauldrons, and mesmer mask as soon as i found replacements. Need the storage space.

Also for engineers, the KIts always replace your back animation.

i kept mine but i also kept my necro ghost mask that makes my eyes white.

i keep my necro too, as well as my thief. That covers all my 5 slots ;p

The guild backpack costs 5gold
“Spineguard of the (soldier)” costs 5silver

both have the same stats
