Throw-mine can be decent sometimes, but it’s just too little for a whole utility slot. It’s been said before, and I’m here saying it again, mines should have their own kit again. There was already a thread about this, but I can’t find it and I think it needs to be brought up again.

I heard mines used to be their own kit but were nerfed because it was a whole kit of mines which meant 5 blast finishers, which is understandably ridiculous. Well, it needed to be tweaked, not nerfed to its current status, which is why I’m suggesting this change.

The changes should be as follows; Mines should be their own kit with 5 mines where the ability buttons are on separate cooldowns like med-kit skills. These are deployed at the engineer’s feet. Throw-mine becomes the toolbelt ability, and minefield is the kit-refinement ability. Skills 1-3 should be the basic mines the same as throw-mine with the blowout, except they are not blast finishers and do not remove a boon. Skill 4 is the shrapnel mine that does the real damage. There’s no blowout, but it cripples and applies multiple bleed stacks. I have no idea what skill 5 could be. Swapping mine-kit off the utility slot detonates all deployed mines

The idea behind the basic mine all having blowout is that they’re used for control instead of damage. If they were only damage, you could stack up 5 mines on one spot and anything that goes there just gets nuked. Blowout means that an engineer is wasting the blowout potential if he just stacks all the mines, and it therefore encourages him to be random with the placement.

Does anybody have a good idea for what skill 5 should be? It should a specialty mine, because having 4 basic mines seems a little stale but I don’t know what it should be. Should it be an acid mine that creates a pool of acid that applies vulnerability stacks? Or something else? An EMP mine that removes boons? Fire/frost mine? Help me out here guys :P. I’m leaning towards incendiary mine that creates a field because there’s already a charr consumable item that does that, which means precedent I suppose.

Anyway, I don’t see the minekit being overpowered. It takes a whole utility slot and it’s purely defensive except for throw-mine. I see some people complaining about the blowout spam, but the mines don’t actually do much damage, so who cares? Besides, necro marks can do the same thing ‘cept with fear. I’d love to see this in WvW for defensive purposes and making bridges hell.

I’d love to see the Mine Kit be a kit again. I’d rather just have the Mine Field be the Tool Belt ability in that case, and Kit Refinement could just drop a single mine at your feet.

As for specific mines, I think three basic one with blowout is just too much. Letting them stack isn’t an issue to me, in in fact would be the primary purpose if it was used to protect a capture point. Let 1 through 3 be the short cooldown mine with various effects such as turning a boon to a condition, bleeding, and burning. Then let the 4th and 5th one be longer cooldown versions with chill and the other a blowout, the 5th one being the only Blast finisher. The mines from traits, tool belt skills, and kit refinement in this case would be a random set from 1, 2, and 3.

Skill 5 could be an aoe mine, that does maybe a smaller amount of damage than the other mines but over a much larger area (maybe like big ol’ bomb without the knockdown). I would personally love to see something like this happen, because I love the idea behind the mine skills but in practice they are almost not even usable now.

That was honestly a big part of the reason I chose engineer initially, I wanted to be able to set up mine fields and turret defense positions!

During the betas , mine kit was my best one. Unfortunately they replaced the kit with a single mine !!!!
I still use the mine for interruption .

All 80es > MM necro is my best ,cleric
guard ,nades eng ,Trap thief \ranger ,signet\shout warrior, zerk mes\ele & shiro rev.
