Viable or OP engi spvp changes?
Just been wondering about a thread i read from anet that mesmer portals in pvp were causing them issues and that one option they were looking at was giving it to other classes in pvp. Well seeing as Engi has become the least represented class in tpvp (not factual just observed) would it be a good option to give it to engi , especially since Engi use to fulfill the role that most mesmers do today with thier portals.
Secondly would adding some form of stability to the Engineer bring them on par with other bunker classes ( ele/guard) . Perhaps a master trait or something , im sure we use to have this and it got nerfed or removed or maybe it was a dream .
Anyway just wondered what u guys thought about this and wether these two changes would make a difference to Engi for the good or would it make them OP ?
Weird, past few weeks I’ve seen more engis than mesmers.
Hmm you are the second person to mention an increase of engis. Maybe i dont play enough peak time but the server i play on is pretty busy in the mists day and night and there are very few competitive engis playing EU from what i have observed in comparison to every other class. And by competitive i mean holding a spot in a team in tournament play not in hotjoin.

I’ve been seeing ALOT of engis in premade paid 1v1s. Almost 0 mesmers.
Did the thread specifically refer to them in the context of PvP ?
When I read it, I felt they were speaking in general.
As far as stability goes. I Believe every class should have access to stability, or none should at all. The ability to act, unhindered is very powerful. So much so that it is a great imbalance in my opinion to give it to some professions and not others. Particularly when many professions have utility skill lines dedicated to crowd control. To have access to the ability to negate several weapons skills and entire utility lines is very powerful.
Engineers used to have access to it, and they removed it, because it was OP. Why it was OP for the engineer and not other professions is beyond me. Just like Our grenades get nerfed before they even began discussing the need for AoE reworking.
I do not feel it is an increase of engies. I have always seen many in matches. It is more like players are bringing back the engies they used to play in PvP before negative changes.

Firstly sorry i was under the impression it was related to pvp, its all i play so is my only concern, i couldnt tell you anything about mesmer and thier portals or comment on them in pve or world v world as i havn’t participated in those parts of the game since i dinged 80 shortly after release.
completely agree with what you said in regards to nerfing it on one class and still allowing it on others. Hence my thoughts on giving it back to engi so that we are on par, considering the only game mode we have is conquest with point control as the core aspect.
As to seeing more engis than Mesmer since we have had 1 team vs 1 team , i believe that might be something to do with portals being less effective on the map we have for this game mode this week however when we have the other maps back on paids maybe it will not be so. However my main question is to do with obtaining portal and stability on Engi in regards to tournament pvp and how it would be perceived.
I enjoy my engi , i love playing it in pvp and am just curious.
@coglin
I completely agree that we need a good access to stability, not from a skill which randomly gives us stability or stealth. I play bunker engineer and I hate how Hammer Guardians smash me out of nodes. I just recently started playing sPvP again and just started playing tPvP (was lvl 11 before I stopped months ago and now lvl 15) .
Usually I find myself as the lone engineer. Some times there are 2 or 3 of us and most of them are 100nades build but I am yet to see an engineer who can pull it off properly and consistently.
Portals being less effective and knockbacks being much more effective than before, yes. And we have pretty good set of knockbacks.

Use mortar, infinite stability there you go.

I don’t usually support engi nerfs, but the nerf to juggernaut was absolutely necessary because it was the single most OP trait/skill in the entire game, period. People talk about how hard it is to kill eles because they can run three stunbreakers (cantrips) without gimping themselves…
Imagine having a stunbreaker on a 1-second cooldown, that also gave you 200 toughness, and stability for as long as you wanted! I’m not kidding—literally every time you swapped to flamethrower, it was a stunbreaker. And of course if you stayed in flamethrower you were immune to all cc’s, not even boon removal could realistically touch us.
(it was pretty nice)
Some stability would be nice, though. Also a stunbreak on a turret and a kit would help.
Did they recently change our mortar skill? It is destroyed reasonably easy, and you can be knocked off of it. Thus demonstrating it has no stability what so ever, at least the last time I used it.

It gives stability when you use it. Though it still gets destroyed by one aoe within two hits.
hell yeah i want the old juggernaut back!
was it op?absolutely!
don`t care i want my god mode and now:)
tho it did had the 50% speed reduction (25% traited) i`ll take a 80% with no 25% trait to get it back.
on a serious note we have two things on the same spectrum that`s going bad for us.
one is the lack of stability, to get it on one skill slot with the added rng and short duration and in two elites that are kinda useless(one gets demolished with 2 auto attacks) is just plain bad.
the second is that we are too reliant on our cc, its a big key to our survivability and dmg setup, so the abundant stability going on in the game hurts us severely (imo we get hurt the most).
they need to add us at minimum one reliable source for stability and to tone down some skills that have way to powerful stability duration (aka rampage as one/necro elites and so on).
when i play on my ranger longbow/shortbow build i just pity the engineers that fight me you drop them so easy and they don`t even dent me.
this is from a pvp pov but it goes to pve in most ways boss/mobs that are immune to cc is equal to a profession with good stability uptime just the overall impact on gameplay is lesser imo.
