I’m bored running condition builds or hybrid condition w/small direct damage builds in wvw. I feel like im always having to give up damage in a build by using defensive traits, armor type, runes, etc. Not complaining just looking for something different. So are there any good wvw builds that deal good direct damage while still being able to survive. Im looking for both roaming and zerg/large group builds.

I recently had a lot of money to spend, so I bought a full set of precision ascended gear. I mix that with soldiers armor to get a good balance of crit chance with toughness and vitality. 20K health is a sweet spot and I find it just enough to survive conditions and bursts. The FT is mostly stacking free might and for area fights. It’s very supportive in zerg fights. I do on average 3K damage per jet. EG is mostly for stun break and super elixir. Toolkit is mostly to catch runners or to slap ppl with a prybar. I use rifle as my entry into a fight. Overall, I offer good support to my zerg.

I also try to find build/stat set that will suit my playstyle. For now, it seems that I am only at the beginning of the road. I want to make tough roaming engineer with good healing and survival ability, able to kill foes in 1v1.
I like to use kits, so I want to have at least 2 kits in my repository (usually bomb and tool kits). Grenades seems boring to me, as well as rifle and utility bar full of elixires.
So I join and ask if there is good stat priority for such theme? I crave no crits, but sustainable damage with survival potential.
And so far, I meet 2 types of enemies on WvW – first type kills with 2-3 swings, or with 5-6 if I manage to react with gear shield, blind and distance disrupting. Another type are those, who quickly outheal my damage and then start to bring me to 10% HP. At this 10% HP fight can continue for a minute or more, I use healing skills many times and try to damage my opponent, but it is worthless – he is always full HP.
Any similar situations and, maybe, solutions what you had already found?

Ferr, are you making use of combos? Single attacks are not enough to bring down a player fast enough, or even at all with some classes like elementists. Check Dirame’s first video link to get an idea of how to combine your skills into a sequenced attack as an example. Practice various combos in PvE to get the hang of it, then try it in WvW. The only time you should resort to single attacks is when your skills are on CD. You should be dealing at minimum 5K health per combo. That’s enough to offset any healing and allow your normal attacks to do the rest while your skills are on CD.

If you mean combos like field + finisher – I use it as possible. I got smoke bomb – blast stealth combo and fire field- blast 3 stacks of might combo. Not something to inflict a high amount of damage.
If you mean chained abilities, I try to use it too in possible synergies, like pry bar, static shot, concussion bomb (confusion stacking). Guess this is the thing everybody have to reach by himself, but if there are any written guides I’ll like to see it.

If you are looking for direct damage with reasonable toughness, try a hybrid knight’s/cavalier’s SD build, with some help for higher crit chance for more damage. This ends up a pretty tanky build, with an almost 50% crit chance and over 50% extra crit damage.

All of this at almost 3200 armor, 2 decent sources of fury for 70% crit chance, a stun break, combat movement, but no condi removal. If you want to swap out heal turret for the med kit, you can double blast finish with the turret and then rocket boots. The turret cleanse and blast both trigger the static discharge trait, which is good if you are pointed AT what you want to hit, and takes a bit more practice.

I run a 3k attack (+10% Rifle Mod, +2% per condi Mod Ammo, +5% vs bleeding, +5% Force Sigil) 50% crit rate (70% with fury, +10% vs < 50%), 70% crit damage, Static Discharge Rifle Build at the present. It sits pretty low in toughness and vitality at about 2.1k and 18k respectively, but uses a couple defensive traits to stay alive (0/30/10/10/20). If I roam I use Cloaking Device and Automated Defenses, and if I’m with my zerg I use Protective Shield and Protection Injection. Occasionally I’ll use invigorating speed but with the recent proliferation of boon ripping/corrupting necromancers I’ve used it less and less.

The way it works is you use the blasts from rocket boots, rifle turret and acid bomb for water / feild blasting.

Combining a detonate on the rifle turret on top of an acid bomb, blunderbuss, or jumpshot is really nice burst dps, and you can rotate between EG / rifle and use constant tool belts to get more consistant dps.

You’ve got 2 leaps and a stun break, with the melandru runes, leg mods, and the foods you are nearly immune to cripple, chill and immobilize. It is fantastic escape and mobility. With decent burst.

A nice trick for guild play is to use kit refinement, swap to EG and rocket leap over or thru an enemy guild group. When they move on the poddles it gives immobilize and they often wont dodge roll to avoid it, since its hard to see and not many engi’s run it. So you can split or catch people out which is nice in guild fights. If you run PP instead of rifle you can double up with glue shot. I like to cut a few people out and supply crate them, to split enemy teams up a bit to screw with their movement / burst.

But the most important thing is to stay alive.

Good mobility and high toughness are key to that.

It is a good build, and there are a few good builds, but I’ve yet to find a great build, anything that really rivals, shout warrior / guardian, or well necro for the guild group meta.
