Hey everyone,

I am currently levelling an engineer with somewhat of an emphasis on turrets. But since turrets don’t work for everything, I am going to reserve one of my utility slots for a kit. The question is, which one?

Grenades seem a good choice: They offer Conditions, have a slow for kiting and deal incredibly well with groups of enemies. Plus the explosion trait tree somewhat synergizes with turrets, maybe the rocket turret even gets some trait effects on the explosion.

The there’s the Bomb tree, which probably has more damage, and could work very well when turrets draw aggro, allowing timed charges to hit reliably. Synergy effects with the explosion tree are also present.

The Flamethrower: Burn conditions are nice, and work well with kiting aroung turrets. But the grenades give overall more conditions, and while there are synergies with turrets in the firearms tree, it seem overall a worse choice.

Elixir gun is out of the picture I think, Speccing the tree for it makes me entirely too tanky.

Another relevant consideration is which attributes actually affect turrets. I have seen contradicting statements about this. Some people say no scaling at all, some say damage scales with power. If the latter were the case, then the explosion tree would be a significant advantage over everything else, seeing that turrets do not crit.

It’s really based on your preferance. I do the healing turret + flamethrower kit + rocket launcher turret combo and it’s worked well ever since.

The only turret I ever liked was flame. The toolkit skill is really nice, and the overcharge is good for blast stealth finishers and of course blind.

Turrets scale with traits – Explosives, for example, will increase the damage dealt by all turrets and improve the duration of the Net Turret. They do not gain bonuses from equipment.

Which kit you use will likely influence/depend on which turret you use to some extent. For example, if you’re using a Bomb kit, the Thumper Turret would let you increase the damage in a particular spot by a decent amount, while the Net Turret could immobilize targets for the Grenade kit. The Rifle Turret’s toolbelt is especially handy if you inflict a lot of Vulnerability, such as with enough points in Explosives, to say nothing of the Rifle Turret itself.
