So as we all know, i just wanted to let you guys know that out of all the profession forums i go on (i try to go to all of them at least a few times a month to see how other players think about their class that I don’t play) that you guys have the best spirit when it comes to your class. Elementalists are in an outrage right now about the nerfs coming. What makes me feel OK with the nerf coming to my class is that I try to look at it like the engi community has taken their nerfs. Take it pride and a way to beat the system. So i tip my hat to you guys for helping me become infused with determination and good spirits despite the man trying to hold you down.

People are loudest when their best things are taken away. Engineer has no best things left to take away, only okay things. That leaves, for the most part, only the tried and true Engi-lovers left on the forums, those that don’t care as much about ability as they do about playstyle.

Upcoming changes hurt our condition+confusion builds, and we all know eventually they’re going to revisit grenades. If we were smart we would all be talking about how OP turrets are, that way AN would focus on nerfing them instead.

It’s a relationship with the Engineer class… we’ll make it work <3

For the most part my engi has never been nerfed all that hard. I picked the engi for turrets and gadgets, not for grenades and elixirs. And despite turrets and gadgets being majorly UP from launch, Iv stuck with it and made it work. I took a break and now that I’m back I was blow away that there was a turret buff and even the deployed turret trait was fixed, something I never expected to happen.

I think there are alot of engineers that pick engi for the theme of the class and wanted to use turrets and gadgets, but sadly they was overshadowed by grenades and elixirs.
So with each nerf to the popular stuff, it lowers the bar and makes what we really wanted more appealing, if only by comparison.

Engineers have learned to expect little and get even less. Ironically if we complained more we might not get such badly thought out crap for changes. Or a test server.

This. I hate to be so negative, but time has shown over and over that the buffs we get are minor and nerfs come swift and heavy handed.

I WISH that aNet would focus more on buffing weak / underused traits, weapons, and utils BEFORE throwing the nerf hammer around so hard. We would likely see natrual counters evolve and expand build viability, but hey what do I know.

Or you know, we could get a test server

Well, kitten happens. I’ve seen enough nerfs/akward buffs/stupid reworks coming now that nothing will boggle my mind.

We’ll see what we get, or not get.

After that day when an engi first took out his prybar to faceroll people in confusion and that crazy night when we became “elixirholics”, forum engies were already discussing alternate builds the next day.

People here are so used to nerfs that they know how to recognize when a build is starting to get “too good” and anticipate incoming nerfs.

Out of curiosity OP… were you here last month when they nerfed KR?

That was probably the biggest outcry of nerf QQ I’ve ever seen, and yes, I was one of them.

Then again, I don’t browse the other profession forums nearly as much as these.

In my opinion, the kit refinement “adjustment” was the worst nerf engineer has suffered, including beta. The development team handled it terribly, and I think people have a right to be upset about it.

Thanks for your post cero. We do work hard to make the most of our smaller toys . . . cause the gods keep taking away our big ones.

That was why the Kit Refinement (KR) nerf hurt so bad – ANet went to remove one big toy (KR burst damage on Grenades) and in the process stomped all over a lot of small toys we’d been working on. Still, indications are they’re being more cautious with Eng’s in this upcoming patch so maybe they’ve learned some from the KR debacle.

If only KR had any use right now I think most people would’ve only complained about 100nade and 2x Super Elixir.

To be fair, most of the Engie players I know (not myself of course) are somewhat crazy.

Sometimes I wonder if engineers suffer a little from ‘battered wife syndrome’.

“It’s our fault we made the devs angry by trying to find something workable.”
“Maybe they should punch us in the grenades next, we’re bound to deserve that too.”
“Those poor balance devs they’re under so much pressure at work, you have to understand”
“They keep promising us it will be better, they won’t nerf us again.”
