I’m coming back after a long break and I’m going to level an engineer. I only made it to 20 on a warrior and guardian before I quit playing previously so I don’t really know anything about the game.
I’m going to level an engineer, I enjoy pvp and pve so what can I expect from engineers as far as both go? Thanks

PvE—you’ll have a lot of different build options that will all work well. You won’t do as much damage as some other higher level characters, or different professions, that you see, but you’ll be able to do a lot more than just dps.
PvP—you’ll have a lot of different build options. You’ll feel weak at first because engineers have a very high skill floor, especially compared to some other very easy builds that are quite strong and popular right now. After quite a while, you’ll start to feel very powerful and versatile.

Also, I’ve watched several roaming condi engineer videos and there seems to be some hate towards them. Any idea why?

There is a general hate toward condition pressure builds in small-scale PvP right now because they are overpowered. There is a special animosity toward condition pressure builds utilizing Runes of Perplexity, which engineers can make particularly good use of.

A patch coming out in the next couple weeks is slated to “shave” down the power of condition pressure builds a bit, according to Arenanet. Details on how that will be accomplished are not currently known.

runes of perplexity allow engi to spam confusion. confusion is a boring, unfun, poorly designed damage condition. any time it does enough damage to get blamed for killing a person, you will see tons of qq.

and yet… in pve its so weak it doesnt even matter. how ironic.

and if youre talking about anything besides confusion, condis are just OP in general right now. you can run full tank spec with dire gear and still output the damage of someone in 1/2 zerk, 1/2 knight gear. your condi applications will outpace any removals in small group roaming situations.

Just don’t use perplexity when roaming and you’ll be fine.

People always hate it when their enemies play the meta. Perplexity is a monster of a rune set for engineers. We are getting more qq than stealth thieves because of them. Anet won’t change the rune set so just enjoy it, lol

Also. Engis are fun, And have the most build options than most other classes.

Like what? Elixirs have an AoE that is ridiculous. Yeah you can control the Npc for a while, but i don’t think you can compare the engineer to the other class in pve.
Probably the most effective spell that is useful in pve is the Super Elixir ( Number 5 of Elixir Gun ), but that’s it kind of. And if we speak about healing like with the medpack, well you will never heal as a Elementalist in water form.

I can agree that you have a lot of options, and that many of them are useful and strong, but still stay that if you wanna be a real strong Engineer, you have to use the normal and boring ( for me ) granades build.

Unfortunately, looks like is a class that is very ignored. We will never be strong in condition as other class or have a dps as many other class have. The better things that we can do, is to control the mob or the player with knockbacks or Immobilizings. Now we have stability, for 4 sec and with 30 sec of Cd, what can you do in 4 sec? 5 to 10 steps?

I really hope that someone will start to work on the Engineer and give to them a real reason to be useful, or at the and Warrior would stay the best dps, guardian the best support, Elem great healers if is needed, and the Engineer would stay on a couch looking for the other classes playing Guild Wars 2.

I LOVE Engineer as a class, is my favorite class and is my main and first class, is really funny to play, but is sad sometimes to see that you are not so useful to the team as a War or as a Guardian…

Since you honor me with a thread necro…:)

PvE: Medkit is self-healing; if you want support healing you’re looking for the healing turret. Very solid skill as good or better than healing spring and well of blood. Other forms of support—group fury (runes of altruism), bomb healing (kind of boring), vulnerability stacking (some of the best in the game), might stacking (strong but not unique to the engineer profession), condition cleansing on allies (best in the game at 5 from eg3, 1+every finisher from eg5, 2 from healing turret, all on <20second cooldowns). And you can do most of those at the same time.

PvP: I can think of three top engineer builds that use grenades (1 power, 2 condition) and three that don’t. My definition of “top” is recently used by players in the top 100 team or solo leaderboards. There very well may be others that I’m not aware of. I agree that grenades are a very powerful option, but they’re not all there is.
