Kits are my favorite part of the Engineer class.
Currently there are two different types of kits.

*Device Kits
*Weapon Kits

Of these types (or a new type if you are creative enough)

What are some future Kits you would want?

As an Elite, I would like a future Spy Kit skill. That has some kind of Stealth focus involved with it.

Also a 2hander Melee Kit Sawblade style.

a Mech Suit kit would also be pretty cool idea for a mode tanky design.

I thought of a pet kit as well, like a Robot kit.

But the idea is kind of silly(if done this way), since when you think about it,

What would the Engineer being doing in the meantime while the Pet is out. Since its a kit, you lose your weapon skills, and when you switch kits, you lose your pet.

But maybe it could work, if you dont lose you pet when changing kits.

Portal Gun Kit – I’ve posted this idea so many times…

RC Kit – Drop little radio controlled golems/toys/constructs that jog after your target or in an area and each have an effect. Autoattack would just be a homing, jogging toy that runs at your target and explodes for damage. 2-5 could be a toy that roams in an area and explodes when triggered (trap-ish), a toy that leaving burning field behind it as it wanders toward a target, a toy that falls apart as it walks leaving caltrops in its wake, etc.

Think Edgar had some good ideas.

Chainsaw, Drill, Noise Blaster, Auto Crossbow, Flash Kit..

We already have the Bio Blaster.

Would like a melee kit, although Tool Kit isn’t too bad for damage.

Improve FT Autoattack damgage while their at it.

A Device Kit equipped with a variety of charges and tactical explosives to help remove obstacles or level other threats that stand in the way.

Skill 1: Shield Pound- Bludgeon foes with your Blast Shield crippling them while granting you protection.

Damage:280
Radius: 120
Cripple duration: 2 second
Protection duration: 1 second
Cast time: 1/2 seconds

Skill 2: Flammable Residue- Disperse a layer of Highly combustible residue on the floor that detonates when walked over by anyone with the Burning condition, Causing Blind and Burning to nearby foes when triggered.

Residue Duration: 4 seconds.
Explosion Damage:450

Skill 4:Toss TNT- Light the fuse on a stick of TNT which explodes after a short delay knocking back enemies and burns them while removing Stability. Ending the channel will toss the dynamite in front of you holding it will cause it to detonate knocking you back and inflict Burning on yourself.

I think a power suit would be a great kit, Make FT a full DPS kit first then create the Juggernaut kit.
It should be a combo of the Toolkit and Elixir gun, designed specifically for tanking/support.
AOE condi Cleanse, Cleave hits with weakness, AOE blind, Stability and protective bubble.
It would be a powerful defensive kit when Traited and not very offensive.

It should also interact well with Turrets, a trait could be turret mount. Turrets have a duration of 30seconds/so many uses but become part of the suit. meaning you can make it so Turrets become viable.

That would be my ideal kit.

Also some kind of melee kit. TK has great utility, but we need a true in-yo-face basher.

Junk Kit
1 Rebar: 3 attack chain that weakens on 2nd hit and cripples on 3rd hit (cleaves).
2 Rusty Nail: Leap at your target, closing the distance, dealing damage & poisoning them (leap finisher).
3 Cinder Block: hold up cinder block to block attack, counter-attack by smashing block over opponent’s head and dazing them. Activate skill before counter-attack to drop block and retreat backward.
4 Blasting Cap n’ Gum: Stick a charge to your target, that detonates after a couple seconds and bleeds nearby enemies.
5 Live Wire: Create an electric surge that damages nearby foes and creates a lightening field.

Tesla Gun

  • Energy Bolt (Autoattack): Deals damage and fills 5% of your endurance on each successful hit.
  • Charged Shot (8 sec cd): Charge your Tesla gun for 3 seconds to release a shot that dazes foes for 2 seconds.
  • Discharge (12 sec cd): Discharge you Tesla Gun to deal damage to nearby enemies with a bonus dependent on you endurance. Lose all endurance.
  • Short Circuit (16 sec cd): Stun target foe in melee range for 1 second and burn him for 5 seconds.
  • Faraday Cage (18 sec cd): Create a lightning field around you for 3 seconds that destroys projectiles and dazes/deals damage every second.

Okay going with the Mech Suit Device Kit idea.

Skill 1 (chain)

2-Steam Hammer Arm- Smack the enemy, doing damage, and knocking down nearby enemies for 1 second. apply confusion for 3 seconds and regeneration to self and nearby allies for 6 seconds.

3-Chained Explosion- Send out a barbed chain that pulls 3 enemies to your location, and explodes ,dealing damage to nearby enemies, then knocking them back. apply daze for 1 seconds.

4-Knetic Energy Shield- Forms a shield around you, that heals you a percentage of the damage you take, while reflecting 1 attack per second at a nearby enemy. duration 4 seconds.

5- Dark Matter Shield- creates a large radius shield around you, that knocks back foes, and reflects projectiles. 6 second duration. Movement is slowed by 75% while in effect.

toolbelt skill- Laser Beam- fire a laser beam in a cone pattern while on the move, dealing damage, and removing boons from enemies hit, and applying it to nearby allies. causes torment for 3 seconds.

Trait-

*Allow Mech suit Device Kit to mount Turrets when picking them up.

*passively gain Stability and protection every 6 seconds while equipping mech suit device kit. Toughness increased.

*Mech Suit device kit, produce nanobots which can repair. Regenerate health every second while in mech device kit.

Sticky bombs with detonate have been done in the Rift “Saboteur” soul (a rogue subclass). You could throw up to five sticky bombs (of various types) onto an enemy then detonate them as a combo finisher. All the damage was backloaded onto the last move. I think they found this hard to balance, because the massive damage spike negates counters, and it was gradually nerfed.

Team Fortress 2 Demoman style sticky bombs, that fix to terrain, could be a lot of fun though. That’d give the engineer trap-like abilities, but with a bit of a twist. The risk/reward tradeoff is easier to balance, and it could be great for WvW. I realise you can kindasorta do something like this already by placing turrets and detonating them, but imagine a sticky bomb gun kit with four types of bombs and a detonate instead.

It’s fun to think about, but I don’t expect anything to happen.

By the way Rift is free to play now, and you could make a saboteur, try out the mechanics, and get a feel for it within half an hour of play.

To be honest I would much rather see elixir X changed to something like this (instead of warrior/ele copies) than see juggernaut/flamethrower changed. I like Juggernaut and it is well placed as a master trait. Even though flamethrower needs some buffs in general you idea would fit an “elite kit” much more.

I really really really really realllllllllllllllly want some kind of a elite kit. Give it some powerful skills with slightly longer cd’s then the skills on our normal kits and I will be super happy.

Maybe when we swap to the elite kit (like with med packs ) It will trigger rune effects, like procing lyssa for example : D

I wonder if it would be possible to create a balanced elite kit without a swap restriction (like currently no kit has a swap cd) or if it would have to be atleast 20 seconds or something like that.

Then again it is true that they could just put higher cooldowns on the skills themselves. I wonder if someone could come up with a good theorycraft.

I’m down with this except for the fact that it’d take up a utility slot, leaving you with only HT + other turrets. While the kit would make combat more variable, I’d rather just have better traits so I can being a whole bar of turrets that are effective.

  • a mine kit for laying traps for WvW.
  • a defensive kit for building walls and supporting turrets
  • an elite wich summons you a crappy small tank wich does copy the kit you use, so you can shoot 5 grenades, or lay 2 bombs, wide-wtf-moment-flamethrower etc
  • remove or fix mortar

i actually would like to have something along the lines of a heavy cannon or a rocket launcher.. sorta like the charzooka elite skill, just obviosly slower shooting. Basically a long range heavy hitter kit. Another idea what would be cool would be a total buff kit. Basically sorta like the healing kit..just 100% focused on buffs. Might be only me but i do enjoy to support my team with my buff potion throws at dungeon runs or revive them with a well placed throw. Why dont make a “potion grenade kit” that does just that and does it well. How about a “blocker kit” with lots of shielding and reflect ablities paired up with a basic shield bash that obviosly is just for emergency? Imagine this paired up with a heavy hitter as tag team, taking cover behind the engineer or in his\her shield bubble and attacking from behind him\her. And as final kit idea i would have a “jet gear”. Totally focused on movement with leap attacks and far jumps paired up with the basic wrench 3 hit combo. Sure we got ways to get arround like this.. but imagine a whole kit like this, id say it would be awesome to have. Another idea would be not quite a kit.. more an elite skill. A sniper version of the mortar. Those would be amazing for support and are technically already in the game. Placing yourself with your sniper tripod far away from the enemie and using your slow reloading but powerfull rifle to give ranged support to your team. Maybe add a knockback or knock down bullet to the rifle and here we go. Timing would be the key here.. like interrupting a charging enemie or a heavy attack. Wouldnt be mobile, wouldnt take much physical abuse and would have the same long reload like the mortar.

Stim Kit A close range Kit that boasts a wide assortment of Stimulants and other versatile devices used to bolster allies and debilitate enemies.

Skill 1 (chain)
1 Puncture : Attempt to puncture an opponents armor with a Needle causing 2 Vulnerably.
2 Rupture : Attempt to Rupture an opponent causing them to bleed.
3 Viral Shot : Toss a fan of needles in front of you containing a powerful Virus that inflicts Poison for each Needle and deals bonus damage for each condition on you.

Skill 2 Drop Pain-Suppressor Stim : _Drop a Pain-Suppressor Stimulant for you or your Allies that will cause them to ignore effects from conditions for 2 seconds. Enemies that walk over the Stimulant will be Poisoned and Crippled for 4 seconds. _

Skill 3 Transfusion Stim : Attempt to inject a transfusion into your foe at Melee Range. Hitting them copies their current boons and gives them your current conditions.

Skill 4 Hallucinogenic Compound : Release a powerful Hallucinogenic Compound that deals damage and inflicts 1 stack of Confusion Every second for 3 seconds. On the final tick, foes caught in the cloud run in Fear for 1 second.

Skill5 Experimental Stim : _Inject yourself with an Experimental Stimulant granting you Quickness and Swiftness for 3 seconds, after their effect ends you will suffer from Chill and Cripple for 3 seconds.

Tool Belt Ability Adrenal Stim : Inject your self with a Adrenaline Stimulant that breaks stuns and grants you Fury for 4 seconds. After 4 Seconds you will be Stunned for 1 second and receive Weakness for 4 seconds.

Personally, I’d love to see a “Sniper Kit”
The Kit slows you, and full on immobilizes you for particular abilities, but:

#1: “No Scope” Slow auto-attack that has a longer range than the base rifle and deals 50% more damage.

#2: “Super Shot”: Channeled ability that has 3 stages. Stage 1 deals 200% Auto-attack damage, Stage 2 deals 250% Auto-attack damage and has an increased 10% chance to critically hit, Stage 3 deals 300% auto-attack damage and has a total 20% increase chance to critically hit. Range equals to twice that of the base rifle.

#3: “Kneecap”: Attack deals auto-attack damage, cripples target for 4 seconds and causes 4 stacks of bleeding for 2 seconds per stack.

#4: “See the Wind”: reveals stealth’d stargets in front of the character within a certain range.

#5: “Unload”: Fires a barrage of bullets for 4 seconds in a line directly in front of the character, dealing auto-attack damage, to a distance twice that of the base rifle auto-attack range. Fires 3 bullets per second.

Tool Kit ability: Hip Shot: Fires a single bullet equal to 150% rifle range, deals auto-attack damage, with an increased 15% chance to critically hit.
