What if they are doing a major rework?
First i would like to say that if they didn’t have time to finish 2 professions, than why the hell did they launch?
That’s completely against the policy they promoted so loud.
And it wasn’t like pvp was ready either, so they might have reconsidered launching…
Beta reports were clear on that one: they weren’t ready.
As for expecting an overhaul: I doubt it, not before some major expansion box.
I’m hoping for small tweaks at best.
Most kits need work, hardly any of them is viable alone, unlike grenades or bombs.
But before any real changes, they should fix bugs, because at the moment you can’t even tell how well an engineer is supposed to work.
How strong are we, when there would be no more significant bugs?
Plenty of mmos launch when they should remain in beta, its very common place.
And you are right, theres so many things on the engineer that just arnt working. They need fix first before they can even think about balancing the class.
As an player that picked the engineer for the turrets, the trait that should allow me to deploy my turrets using ground targeting is a game changer. And thats just 1 trait. There are several others that dont work that would also be game changers.
Once all that is working properly THEN they should start working on balancing.

Guild Wars 1, the Dervish has had a major rework that resulted in completely different effects of the skills. It’s something ANet has done in the past and it’s proved to be successful.
Main: Endeavorr
That would only be successful if there was something wrong with the class requiring a need for a rework at all. Since the class is very good in PvE, PvP, and WvW, why would they want to rework it?
I don’t think we will see a major reword of Engineer, nor that the profession really needs one.
I could see a rework of a few of the kits, definitely of some of the traits and trait lines, and the turret system.
But overall we are in a really good place at the moment.
A lot of people decry a lot of our traits and abilities. But if you actually start playing around with them you find a lot of situational but functional / enjoyable builds.
You’ve just got to get past the numbers fetish that is grenade kit.
My build is 10 30 0 0 30. I spec my gear for a mix of Valkyrie and carrion gear for a hybrid power / condition setup.
I use rifle – healing turret – tool kit – rifle turret – rocket boots – elixir x
Depending on the fight I swap in rocket turret and flame turret, or flamethrower, or bomb kit as needed.
I do solid dps with rifle 3/5 I still crit in the 5k and 7k range. My burning does 560 a tick, with bleeding around 70. I’ve got solid survivability thanks to perma swiftness, tool kit block, tons of CC, and the joy that is chaining rocket boots with overcharged shot.
I do extremely well, and I use 3 utilities and an elite that are typically described as weak, broken, or totally useless. For a time I actually thought the same way about them.
There are bugs that need to be fixed. We’ve got a huge thread of them. There are traits that could use buffing, just like with all other professions. But before you call for a total rework I can’t help but feel you should give the less cookie cutter builds a go and actually spend time working on rotations, timing, and movement.
Grenade kit spoils people, with the push of a key and a bit of ground targeting you get big numbers in return. Other builds can give big numbers, but your not going to be spamming 2-3 keys, your going to be using everything you have, and there is a lot more movement and timing required to make them work.
Blargh. I like changes, I like fixes, I like buffs… but I HATE completely reworks. Rift just did that to a bunch of its classes and it almost ruined the game for me because of how much changed with my class. You get pretty used to something working a certain way, get pretty good at it and then suddenly the whole thing changes right out from under you?
Blargh I say…
Have to agree with coglin here.
Engineer does not suffer from bad design (imo). I would highly doubt they have a rework planned.
I expect balance changes / fixes which will improve on their initial vision.
Engineer is a blast to play once you work around the bugs and will be even better once they are fixed.
