What is your favorite build in PVE and why? I’m almost 80 and still looking for a PVE build i like. I’m planning on doing mostly PVE with some PVP en WvW.

Focus on Power , toughness and precision .

Here goes my general-purpose PvE build, tried and tested in all open world PvE areas. It features:
– good (but not stellar) damage through grenades, jump shot, blunderbuss, acid leap
– control through net shot, overcharge shot, elixir F, freeze grenade, flash grenade
– survivability though super elixir (x2), elixir R, medkit, backpack regenerator trait and perma-swiftness with runes of the centaur

I typically engage groups of mobs with drop stimulant/grenade barrage/jump shot/blunderbuss/acid leap/freeze grenade and then spam grenades.

Stats-wise it has less vitality than displayed on the build tool, and more precision. I also like to repurpose on the fly it when running dungeons, depending on the situation at hand (e.g. switch to bombs, elixirs, switch more defensive traits).

It translates fairly well to large groups WvW where grenades are quite good, and the group healing of the elixir gun is used to its full extend.

For solo/small party skirmishes, not so much. In that case I switch Elixir Gun for Tool Kit, mainly for the gear shield and magnet (also a “prybar in the face” © every now and then), replace Elixir R by Elixir S and change traits away from grenades as I struggle to hit consistently with them when target is not immobilized or at melee range.

I’ve read that with [Incendairy Powder] Pistol OH becomes rather pointless because you can keep your foes burning even without Blowtorch, however I haven’t tested it.

I love static discharge build for PvE, WvWvW, AND sPvP. I never have to change my build, it’s awesome.

Anyone have a link to a description of a static discharge build and how to use it? I searched but mainly saw posts of people saying they use it, not what it is.

quick example of a static discharge build. there are many ways of building and using one. Typically you just take >20 pts in tools and utilitys with low CD on toolbelt skills. Usually paired with tool kit cause throw wrench is awesome along with all the utility (and of course face wreckage via prybar). Also usually paired with rifle turret because suprise shot toolbelt is very low Cool down. Also you can suprise shot then throw down the turret, immediatly overcharge for some nice bleed stacks, magnet them to the turret and blow it up then hit another suprise shot for x2 dischages.

Here’s another one that’s more glass cannonish, but oh boy can it WRECK. There was a video of some dude using it in WvW to massacre some lowbies. Basically you must stay in rifle when you use toolbelts because you lose all the stats from the rifle when you swap out (to be fixed this friday supposedly). Only switch to grenades to apply vuln or use #4 to CC. Same goes for tool kit #4 to run away or #5 to pull (you could even prybar the face if they somehow survive your grenade barrage). With a zerker setup grenade barrage hits easily for 10k+ just gotta make sure it connects so i try to throw it right at my feet or make sure their netted, chilled, crippled, or knocked down. It can be really fun, but you gotta really stay on your toes from the lack of defense.

Right now. Anything with the Flamethrower.

When the sigils-apply-to-kits change is patched in, I’ll be going all Sigil of Ice + Frozen Duration with the Flamethrower.

Just like that evil bandit with the ice-blaster in CM.

I use my 0/30/20/20/0 “Juggernaut” build. It can double as both a Tank and Support build, which I tend to favour.
I couple life-steal food with my flamethrower Mr Smokey, come sigil patch, he’ll nom even more on hp. I still need to experiment with how much I can heal up, but its been promising so far.
Utilities so far vary, first slot depends on situation, Tool -Kit for WvW/Defensive purposes on second slot, which can also be swapped for Elixir Gun for Support.

use this. our WMD . a grenade, elixir U and elixir S/elixir gun.

explosive 30. shrapnel , explosive powder and grenadier.
fire arms 15. precise sight, target the weak.
Tools 25 speedy gadgets/kit refinement/speedykit ,scope and enduring damage.
all equipment berserker including acc(rings,backpack, etc)

crit damage at level 80 can reach1500 per grenade(times 3). not always. but the condition damage you cast will sum up the same. bleeding and vulnerability will sustain at 13-16. pairing up with another engineer or a nerco will sustain at 25 bleeding at 25 vulnerability. or you can mix it up your utility to make 25 vul by your self. your choice.

tricks on kit refinement. when you change to elixir gun it will cast a light combo field which is healing and remove condition( use it again manualy when needed). use a shield to blast it for area retaliation. since you only change to heal of what so ever if you are being attacked. when your done use acid bomb to back off or if you are using elixir S then just ran off. pluse throwing elixir U are a must. reflect and a blind will protect you from projectiles.

i suggest to make a sure survival you use a medkit. when you change a medkit with a traits speedykits it will cast a swiftness on you. so when you run you can heal your self and a condition while getting swiftness. and dont be lazy. dodge while you can.

this is my favorite build because i can high damage also i can protect heal health and conditions of my party.

ps: becareful using this on wvw. if enemy reflect you. you will die in 2-3 seconds because of your own grenade. especialy that dumb purple mesmer dome.

My fav build is static discharge too. I love how there are such variety in static discharge builds.

My one’s a bit more defensive since I usually run around solo, focusing on toughness and protection upkeep. I just couldn’t get used to throwing grenades so I went with pistol and shield and never looked back once I started this. Absolutely love it. Little bit low on dps so takes a while to kill things, but fun.

Wear full knight’s armor, 3 beryl trinkets/2 knight or berserker trinkets and use berserker pistol and shield. Use sigil of fire on pistol and sigil of accuracy on shield. Use either 6 runes of the earth(defensive) or 6 runes of the forge(offensive, dungeon acquired).

I get fairly frequent and long protection upkeep from traits and runes, ample projectile reflection from shield and rune, good toughness, decent vitality and a crapload of aoe damage from static discharge, coated bullets, throw wrench, aoe interrupt/stun with shield throw and sigil of fire.

It lets me handle anything, pretty much. I can solo anything from groups of trash mobs to the champion risen abomination at the end of plinx chain. Bosses are more difficult but not impossible. Just need to juggle Rifled Barrels with Infused Precision and switch out Utility Goggles for whatever I need depending on the situation.

Any build with bomb kit.

If you are in an area with only melee mobs just run in and hit everything once with your gun. Then proceed to run circles around them dropping bombs. This is a lot less effective against ranged mobs (they don’t chase you and bunch up) but smoke bomb makes it managable.

For everything else, well, you still have two other utility slots.

sometimes i like to use bomb as my healing.
with healing build ofcourse.
elixir infused bomb + dual light combo field from elixir gun are sweet.
pairing up with a guardian mace build. and thy shall be a healer once more o holy trinity!

With 20 points in Firearms, I can switch to Rifle based traits if need be, or Reinforced Shields from Inventions. I can additionally go more support or control with various traits in Alchemy.

Elixir R or S, depending whether I wanna be more support or tanky, or U for a tad bit of burst damage. I’ve been using Toolkit/Grenades a lot in this slot too.

All in all, it’s a very resilient build – With perma swiftness and constant cripple and daze/stun effects, I can kite forever. A little bit of gear with healing power, and I can heal through ridiculous amounts of damage, that which I haven’t blocked/reflected or was invulnerable to, anyway. It’s incredibly rare that I go down, except in situations in which I need to put down targets quickly/prevent from overwhelming.

I am very strongly considering a respec. My damage output currently is balls, even with a constant 6+ stacks of might and perma-Fury. I’m going to play around with different gear a bit, but I think I’m going to respec to ye olde Static Discharge build for better damage and access to Kit Refinement, via dropping Firearms altogether, and possibly some of Inventions.

cant argue with you on that. elixir build and tank will get small damage. but yeah droping firearms is a better way. since “currently(soon to be changed)” rifle is really half there and half not.

heal from bombs and elixir gun give nice survivability, bombs deal damage etc.

what gear do you use?

until they nerfed it and I reached level 80 (which sadly was right around the time it seemed to get worse) I had a burst/cond build with FT/EG and It was working nicely until the missing was enhanced somehow.

Had all rampagers gear with runes for cond damage jewelry n such for that.

It was nice. Awww I remember it well, only two months ago before the Six decided to change the laws of physics.
