For our new elite spec that is
Our options are:
Either hand:
sword
dagger
axe
mace
main/Off hand:
scepter
focus
torch
warhorn
Two handed:
staff
longbow
shortbow
greatsword

Personally I would like to have focus as our next weapon, something that would give us support abilities. Or a mace high damage (with defense shield or condi pistol attacks)

Anything that allows shield to be useful. Shield skills are good but the item cannot be used since the only 1h is pistol, and if you’re using pistol you are running condi which means you need offhand pistol as well for blowtorch. So I would take any 1h weapon that is either power or support. Dagger is probably the least awful thematically, though mace already has some engineer-y skins like fixer upper (not fix-r-upper lol) and various hammer looking skins.

Also, it’s not out of the question that elite specs could allow underwater weapons to be used on land. Harpoon gun makes a lot less sense than spear and trident but it isn’t impossible!

I want a 1h weapon, that can be used in both the main and the offhand.
This will give us 5 new spells and gives us a 1h that can pair better with shield than pistol does.
Also shield should get significantly reduced cooldowns by default (they are to high).

Mace for example or anything else that could fit that role (maybe a new engi only weapon, like a handraygun?).
I would like to see a ranged dmg support build.
Its something that would complement the things that we already have.

First place:
Alchemic MH Axe with acid theme. I miss the acid theme of some old traits (like acidic coat and acidic elixirs), could give us a boon removing dps playstyle. Axe fits thematically the best in this regard. Would like a new weapon mechanic for engineers too!

The 3rd skill could be something like “Crack the Flask”, the engineer creates a AoE field which does something. You can use shield 4 or pistol 4 in it, to give it another effect. Like, if you use shield 4 in it, you will spalsh little globs for several small damage spikes (imagine like subject 6 the attack where it use several small aoe). So the new mechanic is, 1 skill of the main hand can be comboed with 1 skill of the offhand.

Second place: MH Sword
I could imagine something like a vibrating blade for the engineer. I have an idea for a new mechanic for this too.
Sword 3: Stick your vibrating sword in the ground. Disables the skills 1 and 2 of he sword.Followskill for sword 3 to pick it up again. As long as the sword sticks in the place, it will create aoe shockwaves (like molten berserker) all few seconds dealing damage. Powerful damage, evadeable by jumping. Maybe make the sword destroyable for counterplay. Disabling 1 and 2 could be imaginable because engineer has kits to fill for these lost 2 skills.

Third place: MH Mace

Erm… no. Very unlikely to happen. I don’t think Anet wants to give any OH weapon as a MH option in the future. And double wielding shields seems just odd…..

Okay, I don’t get your point. This discussion is about the next new weapon for engineer elite spec. I just said that there are 12 regular choices for this, meanwhile I could understand to break the regular rule (like shield for mainhand) for warrior, because warrior doesn’t have many choices left for a next weapon. I didn’t complain about a lack of weapon choices for engineer, just pointed out that there is no need to break the classic weapon rules (by that I mean: torch, focus, shield and warhorn are offhand only and scepter is mainhand only) for engineer, but for warrior it makes sense.

So please tell me: what did you want to say to me with your comment?

I don’t want another offhand without a new mainhand weapon as well, as the mainhand department is where we’re lacking the most currently. That said, I don’t really want a new mainhand unless it synergizes well with offhand pistol, but if it does then it’ll probably just end up being mh pistol 2.0 unless mh pistol gets revamped itself.

Out of all the 2handed weapons I think I’d like shortbow the most— preferably focused on sustained physical damage. I’d love something that goes as well with static discharge as rifle does.

Hmm. - It has to be something mainhand (at least), capable of add some versatility and work well with both the OH Pistol and the OH Shield.
- It must be very different form MH pistol, so it shouldn’t be full condi or full ranged.
- It should be a weapon already in game (Athough I would love chain-weapons or boomerangs, lets make this thread less utopic).
- Since we already have a bludgeoning melee weapon with the hammer, it should be piercing or slashing.
- Since we have a lot of ground targeting kits, it should not excel on that.
- Finally, it should NOT in ANY way, feature AI.

I think sword, axe and dagger all could work, as long as their skills are Engineer-y enough. IMO the main part is not really the weapon, but what this new tool would DO. Clearly, it should be fairly intertwined with the new Spec associated and its spec mechanic…

What about this:
The new elite spec, the “Tracer”, moves deftly while spinning her Daggers at superspeed to form overheated, hyper-sharp edges that leave a laser-like trail on their path. The blades themselves are good at piercing armor, but the main potential of the spec lies into the laser tracings left on the floor, walls and envirormental objects, which pulse with damage for a time and can be used for area denial, to set up traps and to force defense skills from the enemy.

Think of a mobile melee fighter that closes range through quick, short runs which happen to leave behind a bright damaging line, just like the Mordrem Sniper or the Teragriff ones. I supose it should look like a cross between GoGo from the Big Hero 6 movie and the Tron motorcycle … not bad for an Engie, IMO.

PS: In fact, any of the chars from the Big Hero 6 movie would make a really amazing Engie spec, including Yokai…

Off hand shield is already quite nice but only ever seen if a engi is using a main hand pistol.

So

would all be nice choices, though mace would probably fit best.

Mace would be the most logical choice and help engi mechanically aswell since as many people mentioned pistol being the only mainhand option while we have two offhand options already.

Skills should be hybrid with some condi but also direct damage on them making the weapon rather flexible.

Some confusion seems logical. Maybe spawn a mine with parts of the autoattack chain (on second/third hit for example).

Well, if Rev & Daredevil have shown us anything, it is that weapons don’t need to follow their stereotypes – eg. staffs can be melee, hammers can become ranged.

With that in mind, I’d love to see a melee or short range scepter be the next Engi weapon, to complement a Technomancer style spec. As others have posted, this should be power based weapon to allow use of shield, but possibly have condition options (Torment?).

I don’t enjoy magical professions, that’s one part (of many) I love about my engineer, it is one of the least magical professions in the game.

Like mentioned several times: most likely is mace, axe or sword.
I don’t think it will be mace and engineer has no weapon with a blade yet. So I hope for axe or sword.

Just a thought but in theory elite specs could use old weapons again. The new engi spec could again use hammer but if you chose the new specs trailine the 5 hammer skills completely differ from scrapper’s hammer.

This applies to all classes. If there are one or two more elite specs released it will be hard for them to come up with fitting new weapons for the classes. Personally I think most remaining weapons (except mace) would be rather stupid on engi (just like a staff wielding warrior, sure you can explain anything if you bend the lore strong enough but it will feel forced). I predict them sooner or later do what I mentioned above and I don’t even hate it. Might be cool to have alternae skillsets for hammer (with alternate traits/utilities aswell ofcourse).

Off hand focus.

Skill 4 EMP – 1s Stun
Skill 5 Overload – Grant Swiftness and Quickness

And then make the new skills work like mantras that change the first 3 skills on the pistol. So toggling one on would make the first 3 pistol skills different… maybe have them less on the condi side and more on the damage side. The next would be more on the CC side and the last could be support.

Damage:
2. Pulse shot – Something like the Battlefield Soldier’s version of the concussion shot in ME3
3.Undermount – It’d be odd to have a pistol with an undermount, but if a pistol can be a blowtorch, we can all pretend that a pistol can fire a grenade with a delayed explosive. Or maybe a sticky grenade with an aoe explosion. And make it a skill shot.

CC. 2. (I’ve got nothing.)
3. Ice Flare – Replace the normal pistol 3 with an AoE blind and slow/chill

Support. 2. Anti-Virus – Clear 2 conditions in a cone in front of you
3. (I’ve got nothing here either)

(By the way I hate the focus skins. I just thought the idea was cool. My vote is for mace but i’ve got no ideas for that)
