I try to use the HT in wvw in small fights or defending a camp (if one can hide it). As soon as large zergs collide however, I have a really hard time casting the combo HT+CB+Detonate due to enormous skill lags. On top of that, it’s impossible to wait for the next tick of the CB since the turret gets nuked in the blink of an eye.

What does it say about our class that our DEFINING WEAPON – turrets – are NEVER used in WvW ? And that the one viable turret (the HT) was just nerfed….

The healing turret is way stronger for WvW now than before, it is the opposite of nerfed.

The 3s water field that heals and cleanses conditions from allies is AMAZING in WvW. It is HUGE. Guildies are constantly tripping out on it now when we call for water fields during a fight and I lay down this monstrosity of a water field for us to blast in.

Actually, you can see the massive water fields in action in this video my guildie just made. The whole video is worth watching, tons of massively outnumbered fights but at 1:15 starts a really epic supply camp fight against enemies outnumbering us significantly + supervisor with the buff up. You can see my flipping around in the video but there are some definite spots where you can see the massive water fields being laid down and blasted in like crazy.

Yesterday.

In fact in euro tier #1, I see turrets used almost every single day. BUT that doesn’t make them any good. I destroy the enemy turrets really fast as the turrets have so weak armor and low hit point pool. Turrets are useless in WvWvW. Compare it e.g. with ranger pets: ranger doesn’t need to allocate any skill slots to have a selection of pets, which provide lots of useful utility and/or conditions. Some ranger pets, e.g. ursines, have 2.6k armor and almost 30k health. And pets are mobile. For comparison healing turret has less than 6k health. What a bad joke in WvWvW, gets destroyed in <1 s in a zerg fight. In siege situation healing turret is also useless, because the traited arrow cart range is now so long and it destroys any turrets in few seconds and doesn’t even require line of sight. The arrow cart spam made all turrets useless.

Supply crate is the best engineer elite skill, but that is because the other elites just suck. Supply crate still has 180 s cooldown, which is pretty kitten long considering its effect. I have never died when an enemy engineer drops a supply crate over me, unless it is already a truly unfair situation (e.g. I am against a group alone and in such situation I would have died anycase).

In fact engineer is the easiest profession to kill, due its super weak downed state.

Turrets are one of the few things that separates engi from other classes. Take deployable turrets and throw your power turrets on walls of keeps and tower to take out siege that other classes can’t reach. Just switch them out when you need them and have Deployable Turrets ready. I generally run:

Tool Kit
Grenade Kit
Elixir U

and switch it out to be

Rocket Turret
Grenade Kit
Rifle Turret

Deployable turrets trait is ALWAYS on.

I always run turrets in wvw when solo roaming, though will swap out to other ultilitys when coming up against a zerg. Though I haven’t seen another engi use a similar build yet.

Are we playing the same game? Maybe I’m coming from an sPvP perspective but Crate is one of the best elites in the game, in my opinion. The net turret alone can get people killed, and a decent Engie will happily punish players who waste their time trying to clear the spawns out.

I have been using thumper and rocket when taking camps lately. Along with rifle and bombs I tend to get the job done. Course, the heavy lifting is done by supply crate, but it’s nice for a change.

I have been scoring hundreds of kills using the supply crate tactic, BUT I have never died myself as an engineer when enemy engineer tries the same. You can call it luck, because I seriously don’t think I am such a great player. My reflexes are SLOW, but I can generally anticipate and guess what the enemy does. Elixir R = stunbreak, 4 dodges in a row (= assuming you used 2 dodges before the elixir R ;-) ). You just pop that in, dodge out before the net turret even hits you and what’s the problem? Then throw couple of grenades and the enemy turrets are destroyed. Enemy just wasted 180 s cooldown elite skill. I got almost zero damage and elixir R has lower cooldown. GG

I use turrets in my underwater based combat build. only class underwater I have porblems with are rangers sometimes (sometimes). I also use net turret to great effect in my condition build. And rifle turret and heal turret in my sd build. Turrets arent viable in the sense that you can just set and forget. But they have other uses as well.

I run Tk/EG/Net turret and heal turret. with p/p and forused on cond duration/damage. The turrets do what I need them to do wich is lock down a target and heal me and my friends. Roaming with another engineer, the enemy usually doesent have the luxury of running over and hitting a net turret (wich has already fired off a shot to stun them) or try to kill a heal turret. (wich has already exploded in the water feild and has netted me like 4+ heals +regen+2 cleanses) So ya if used right they are viable but if u just wanna set them and forget them then I think you are doing turrets wrong. Also I dont think turrets define the engineer class…kits do.

Pop a couple turrets down at a chokepoint in some unnoticed corner and watch the enemies fall, unless they focus on and wipe them quickly. They’re meant for support, not offense.
