Do you focus more on explosives or firearms? With a grenade build I’m putting all the points into explosives, but if I were to switch to flamethrower, should I then try to split between the two? Or should I go a third route and even put some into inventions for better survivability as flamethrower is such a close range kit?

I’m been wondering this myself. As far as I can tell firearms and alchemy seem like the two trait lines that contain beneficial flamethrower traits. But I would think inventions would be useful for survivability as you said. I’m not really sure if I’d bother with explosives as I don’t really see much there that’d really help the flamethrower other than extra power (which you should just be able to stack through gear).

I’d be interested in a good flamethrower build if anyone has one, as that and rifle seem to be my most used weapons.

is it just me or is the flamethrower really hard to survive with. its the one thing that made me want to play an engineer, but it seems like it so much work to kit and angle myself to actually do enough damage to kill anything. on the other hand engineers dont have the mitigation to survive standing still. am i missing someing big in how im playing my engineer?

http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#MMMzz9MzMGoLmorlLMaxaG0VcRqVVk This is my build I plan on using. Although it seems kinda squishy in 5v5 situations and probably not suited for that. However at level 27 flamethrower build with less stuff and bad gear I am tearing people up in WvW.

Although I might take the points out inventions and put into kits or alchemy.

I’d just worry about getting the regeneration for having on kits. That way if you decide you want to play around with other kits the option is there. Use Elixir U in combination with any kit and you can get some really good burst damage. Don’t even really need a kit equipped your rifle or pistol combo’s will work fine with it. But I think the regen helped me most leveling up.
