Hi everyone. I recently struck gold (orichalcum?) and found a Dusk. I sold it and now have plenty to buy the legendary I always put off due to our well documented… “lack of affinity” with legendaries. I didn’t want to farm for the precursor or spend all my money on it simply because none of the 3 options really scream Engineer to me. They’re quite obviously designed without the Engineer in mind, but now I have enough to splurge so why not. For awhile I wanted to just wait until we got new legendaries, but we haven’t heard word on that front for awhile and whenever that happens I’ll probably have enough for another one.

I like P/S the most in in pretty much any game type. Shield is such an amazing weapon. However the legendary is a bit lackluster on Engi. It’s super cool, and I like the hazy effect around it, but it gives you no footsteps and even more importantly to me it has no aura. It matches the Asura t3 helm which is nice. This is the one I have always thought I would get, I have pretty much everything done for it.

However recently I’ve looked more at Predator. While I don’t use rifle a whole lot I place a lot of value on being able to make just 1 weapon and have your weapon slots covered. When we can put 2 sigils on it, there will be no down side to a 2H behind our kits anymore, so it has that going for it as well. The scope and the fact it is a sniper rifle is dumb, but everything else about it is cool.The aura is pretty cool, and since it can show in sPvP that’s another reason it could be cool to have. I do a good bit of sPvP, and this is the only way to have some part of your legendary carry over AFAIK. I guess they’re reworking sPvP rewards and stuff so maybe if you have a legendary you can copy it over in the future and I shouldn’t base a decision on that.

Quip isn’t really an option, I don’t like anything about it.

I dunno, I guess I just want some input from you guys. Anyone who has made this choice specifically would be nice. What made you choose one legendary over the other? Am I over thinking it, and I should just go for shield since that’s what I love to use?

i have quip and i love it. but if it’s not an option then the predator is the only choice really.

I have both the Quip and Flameseeker Prophecies. If I can only keep one, I’ll choose the shield. It can pair with any pistol and still looks good, especially the ascended pistol.

Quip is quite ok because of the purple aura. Also we’re engineers, we can make a toy gun to be deadly. That’s what I always told myself when I look at it.

shield for sure. for me it was never a question, i was in love at first sight with rifles, so predator was obvious. and it sounds like you love shield. always pick the weapon you like best for your 1st legendary.

im working on rainbow fishy gun next, cuz i dont even use p/p or p/s unless im trolling zergs with ac bleeds.

You guys are probably right. It is tempting to go for the legendary that would fill both weapon slots and have it all done for any build that uses rifle… but I just don’t use it that often. Plus the way I see it the shield is the closest thing that fits an Engi… at least an Asuran. Flameseeker Prophecies = text book to research lol.

Don’t go for the predator unless you’re religious with rifles. Took 4 more months than usual when I made it back in the day because I couldn’t get out of pistol builds.

I was in the same situation, so i had a good look at all 3 the legendary weapons and i thought:
I don’t want to glow purple and wield a joke gun, and the shield wasn’t too impressive, especially when it doesn’t add special effects/sounds to weapon skills and it lacks an aura/footstep.
All that was left was the predator which does look awkward at first with it being a sniper rifle but i got used to it and its skills eventually.
If you really want you can go back to pistol/shield and keep predators aura with the magic of combat transformation tonics.
In short, my vote if for The Predator.

This is pretty much my thinking, but MrFoz nailed it. I just don’t use the rifle that often in PvE/WvW, and it’s not worth missing out on my favorite weapon just to have a glowy aura.

Asuran Engineers beware on The Predator, your legendary won’t show much due to kit use, people won’t see it so much as you’re so small, you wield it more like a shotgun so the sniper rifle skin seems a bit odd, but also your Aura won’t look anywhere near as good as on a human as most of it is hidden inside the Asuran character model.

I’ve recently made The Predator on my Asuran engineer and was pretty disappointed on the Aura, however the shots sounds and visuals, plus the grenade barrage effect and footsteps are all good.

Legendary as engineer? Like you ever use it However I’ve seen the quip on somone and his toolbelt grenades sounded also like the quip and the projectile also looked like a typical quip shot. I’d suggest quip, but in the end you won’t have much from it anyway.

you could go the route i am and just make frenzy lol. i hate quip i prefer the aether shield over flameseakers and the rifle is barley noticed since when i use rifle I’m mostly in a kit..

Frenzy is a beautiful weapon. Unfortunately, due to ANet constantly removing underwater content and not promoting it and due to the fact that grenades are so powerful underwater, my Frenzy doesn’t get viewed very often.

I got the predator. At first I was hesitant because kits. But after making out a static discharge build (just to show it off) i realised that for pve zergs and solo pve SD pwns any other spec. Also I get to have my legendary (aura and all) showing most of the time. (Cept for when i prybar them to the face). With exo armour, ascended trinkets and rifle, i usually crit for 2.5 -3k on the mobs in CS, unbuffed. In a zerg i have landed rifle 5 for 15k and over 10k is not uncommon. Took me a while to wean myself off my explosive addiction (bombs and nades) but Im so glad i made the change.

I was really hesitant to get a legendary but ended up working towards the predator anyway. I wanna say I’m a month and a half out because all I have left is world completion (pve maps) and t6 mats. I’m mainly in kits most of the time but I think it will be worth it.

I used to fight with myself saying it wasn’t worth it to get backpieces and legendaries on my engi cuz I run with kits mostly but I finally just gave in and started going for all the things I wanted but said wasn’t worth it. I think it will be worth it in the end.
