Which Order did you pick?
I picked the vigil cause it was a chick advertising it to me.
OOW = sneaky kittens
Vigil = Hulk smash!
Priory = Use intellect and gadgets/trinkets to fight the fight for us.
Engineer seems to mesh perfectly with priory, imo.
Really it comes down to your (toon’s) personality... if your engineer is the speampunk inventor type, definitely priory... if he’s just some pyro that likes to watch things explode; vigil. If he’s a scheming mastermind that that uses his genius to manipulate others - OOW.
Engineers are incredibly versatile - order selection is no exception.
I liked the whispers armor the most. It looks cool on my sylvari. And then I found out tybalt was one of the best characters in a video game. No regrets
I’d say it all comes down to how each armour set looks. Go to the mists and check up on all the faction armour and weapon sets and mix-match them with other pieces of armour. I chose the Vigil purely for the medium leggings which suit my endgame look perfectly.
If none of the armour sets look good for you, then go the role-player route or whichever interests you most.
One more thing is that faction armour can have stats that are rather tedious to get outside of the faction (whispers armour with condition damage/precision/toughness for example) so you may want to take that into account.
My engineer was a charr, and the entire charr race is militarized. Every charr is a soldier. So naturally I chose Vigil.
If my engineer was an Asura I would have picked the Priory because asura’s arnt fighters, there a race of researchers.
I went Priory. I would’ve gone Vigil if I didn’t already have two chars there (they just have superior looking armors for both medium and heavy compared to the other two orders!).
[SPOILER ALERT] I honestly would’ve felt the worst if I went Vigil because I wouldn’t want my big old norn-buddy to sacrifice themselves for me
I have a charr engineer and I chose The Vigil, because the chest piece they have it’s not a trench coat.

This.
I really despise the majority of medium armor in this game.
WvW Captain – Horde of Miscreations, Borlis Pass Alliance
I have a Asura engineer so i picked Vigil with felt most wrong for a Asura :p
I took the priory because I want to save the Vigil for my warrior and the whispers for my thief.
I picked the OoW because their proposition seemed the most logical of them all..
Safer for everyone and not dependent on anything ^^
I’m a sylvari engineer btw and i don’t really follow what you mean with all these armor things -.-’
Order of Whisper because they fit this character.
My charr chose the Order of Whispers because I like their premise and the NPC that recruited me was the coolest. Now I regret it because I really want that Vigil medium coat :x

I went Order of Whispers, because the idea of being a sniper, and escaping by blowing up my way back was just the collest idea.

Where can you see faction armor in the mists?
Order of whispers, because my engi is a demo expert
Not only it makes very little difference what you pick, all the storylines also feel almost identical as you always see the lot, and you just happen to peep up in different parts of the dialogues for some relevant bits.
Only a couple missions in the middle are legitimately different in feeling between them.
Storyline will go away pretty quick, pick based on the armor you like best IMO.
I picked Priory because it felt the more appropriate, and now I regret it because the armor set isn’t one I like.
Faction armour can be previewed at the pvp lockers. Once entering the heart of the mists, they should be to your right.
I picked order of whispers on my engineer. He was Ash legion before that, so Order of Whispers seemed natural to him. Besides, the stereotype later I learn is that not all OoW operatives are all sneaky stabby agent types. Some of them are tacticians, strategos, and commandos that work behind enemy lines. And, Tybalt. Nuff said.
=) So yeah.. no regrets
