We have some problems.

1. The lack of appearance customization for kits. (eg. “The hobo-sacks are ugly.”)
2. The lack of appearance customization for turrets. (eg. “Is that a turret or a meat-grinder?”)
3. The fact that kits overlap/hide back slot items. (eg. “Where’s my plush quaggan?!”)
4. The fact that kits hide legendary weapons (eg. “Legendaries? What legendaries?”)

These issues are often all just lumped together, and it’s true they’re all very closely related, but they don’t always share solutions.

Personally, I’m an Asura, so the kit packs are a more sensible size compared to my character and their general appearance doesn’t bother me much. It would be awesome if I could some day use a jetpack, but it doesn’t keep me up at night.

I’m much more concerned about legendaries. I’m still a long ways off, (Gift of Mastery done, working on Mystic Clovers now—20/77,) and only collecting for it casually, but I’d like to have a legendary some day. Obviously, a tickbox to hide the kit pack wouldn’t help.

That’s me, though. I’m curious to know what’s actually important to other individuals of the engineer community?

I’d say it’s 3, 1, 2, and 4, in order of most vital to least – 3 affects every Kit Engineer (only beating out 1 because it overrides cosmetics that’ve potentially been worked on for weeks), 1 beats 2 because Kits are more commonly used than Turrets, and Legendaries are so rare (and ill-fitting for the Engineer, at present) that I’d consider them to be the least important at the moment.

It’s what I think is most important to the class as a whole; needs of the many and all that.

Personally? I’d like to be able to customize my Turrets, as I don’t use Kits and have no interest in Legendaries due to the current choices being Joke Popgun, Sci Fi Sniper Rifle and Bible Board.

For the profession as a whole, the 3-1-2-4 priority seems pretty accurate.

On a personal level, my preferred priority would be 3-2-4-1.

I’d say 4, 3, 1, 2. Legendaries are a pretty important deal with regards to Anet’s current ‘end game goal’, and Engineers get completely shafted. Why do elementalists get to have unique effects for all their attunements from each legendary (some less so than others, earth element with incinerator is a little lack-luster), but engineers get a few pitiful effects and then their super prestigious efforts are tossed out the window the moment they swap to a kit? Backpacks covering our prestigious, achieved backs is also a major irritation – and I put turrets at the end, because right now turrets aren’t too big of a deal, the most usage they see is from supply crate, healing turret being dropped / oc’d / detonated, and then surprise shot.

Perhaps having a legendary equipped should inherently provide engineers with a “legendary kit aesthetic” for each kit?

I’ve read map chat were people were mad about the idea that Engineers would be able to have “effects” on their kits if they had their legendaries equipped, but I reminded them that we don’t get the weapon swap that other professions get (except for Eles) and that it is only fair since we can’t have a legendary Flame Thrower or Tool kit.

As of the beginning of June, there is a sound from 2 rifle skills, a unique visual from 1 rifle skill… #1, and get a glowy red grenade barrage. We get the red glow and the footstep explosions only when the weapon is equipped and no kits are being used.

I don’t care about turrets, but I would think the ANet would prioritize back pieces to promote the 1-3 available every month with their new content.

If you look at a current gallery of back pieces, there are dozens to choose from that you can get right now, and at least 1—the Jet Pack—which seems IDEALLY suited for the Aetherblade armor and the Engineering profession.

Those things are gonna go up in price if they ever fix the Hobo Sacks.
