Why Is stealth Gyro a thing?
I like engineer, its not my main but if i ever left my main toon i would definitely main engineer. Now ive never felt engi was lacking in sustain at all in fact i think its insane how much they can have especially if you’re good it can be super difficult to kill you. Its frustrating to fight against and super fun if you’re the one behind the wheel.
My only issue is stealth gyro…My gosh when i first got my hands on that thing it was impossible to kill me. As someone who mains thief the art of stealthing and disengaging or stealthing to break target is something i’m very familiar with. Yet unlike with thief where its more of a key function to that classes survival or sustain because theyre so squishy, engi just dominates with it, and its so easy! I would feel so cheap using it (not as cheap as moa but >.> whatever anet) it really is a get out of jail free card especially with the insane amount of sustain available to the class already.
Its not like engis couldn’t already stealth. Other classes that stealth like mesmer and ranger feel no where near as bulky as an engi and thieves have been pushed so far out of stealth is super rare to see anyone run shadow arts anymore. My question is Why this addition to the class? It feels completely unnecessary. Its hard to call for it to get removed from the game as i do play engi and hate being nerfed….but i cant help but feel that it needs some kind of rework or something. I like fair fights maybe its just me….but when you’re not behind the wheel its incredibly frustrating.
can we have a moment of honesty no q.q no insults and just all admit yeah stealth gyro is well. OP….
Instant with 20s CD -> Instant with 40s CD -> 3/4 second Cast time and 40s CD
Agreed, 1.5s Cast time and 80s CD sounds more reasonable, just keep nerfing it, Kappa
(I never use Sneak Gyro as it is currently)

Stealth gyro is in a good place in WvW imo. It is very strong at sneaking past zergs and drawing out small groups to fight. When fleeing, the enemy can interrupt you and proceed to wreck you. It follows you around too, so it’s not like you’re completely invisible to your opponent either.
I will agree that it was insane when it was instant cast, and it was insane on a 20s cooldown.

At the beginning when it had a 20s cooldown with an instant cast it was absurdly cheesy but now its nothing special anymore with a rather meh toolbelt skill. Personally i wouldn’t mind having its recharge time increased but with a reworked toolbelt skill (more usefull, less niche) to make things more intresting. (I never actually used sneak gyro but this is my opinion after fighting a fair amount of scrappers)

Sneak gyro is very strong against group stealth in small scale fights. It effectively shuts down shadow refuge and mass invis, which are also very powerful in a skirmish.

I would agree pre-nerf Sneak Gyro was OP, but in it’s current state it is a perfectly reasonable skill for an Elite.

Lolwat?
In WvW are three kinds of thieves today of which two heavily rely on stealth – the traditional d/p which pop up for backstabs then vanishes and teleport a km away, the DD roflstomper only using the super mario attack and little stealth and finally the permastealth ghost thief only using traps that doesnt reveal.
Anyway the sneak gyro comes with an inherent flaw that balances out its stealth – its a freaking gyro following the scrapper about. Zerkers will pop it in seconds and blanket AoE can be employed. There is also little in terms of skills the engie can use that doesnt also reveal him, unlike mesmers that can let phantasms work or thieves that can use traps. In practice, the real “mesmer or thief eqvivalent” surprise buttstealth it provides is only about 6s at the end of standing still for 30s behind an obstacle where the enemy cant see the gyro. Which isnt bad, but its situational. Personally I find it best used defensivly or for stopping an enemy stomp on party members in small scale.
A Scrapper, using nothing but Gyro’s, has little to no ranged attack ability. This is the reason that Anet (in my opinion) gave us the stealth mechanic. One thing Scrappers are vulnerable to is kiting. Going invisible does allow us to close in on our opponents. They can’t kite what they can’t see.
What makes a Thief truly viable is not Invisibility, it’s the ability to Shadowstep at will.

Sneak gyro isn’t really OP. You can’t really run away with it.. It’s useful for stomps/revives, and with its status at the moment after being nerfed, it’s rather reasonable for an elite. I run supply crate still.
:)
It’s perfectly fine – especially the cast time made it pretty balanced.

There is a good reason I rarely see Stealth Gyro in legendary.
What do they use? Mortar?

I see more Elixir X, but also Mortar. I prefer Mortar. Stealth Gyro isn’t bad, but it’s use is limited to revive and stomping.
Since the change.. the gyro is in a good place.. it’s not OP nor is it crap while at the same time, not making thieves useless.
Just me.. a good stealth thief..vs a good engi with gyro.. thief wins in the stealth area/making use of the stealth hands down
Not sure about wvw, but in pvp I use Elixir X and in pve mostly the cannon.
RIP City of Heroes

i mostly see elixer x in pvp these days, primarily for the toolbelt skill… everybody loves turning my necro into a gorramed moa
