Why am i not surprised? (PSA)
Alright, so, I just tested this with a few friends, and the trait acts… very strangely. At first glance it seems like a support trait, however, it’s actually more along the lines of a support SELF trait. It does actually heal, however… not your allies. Once the trait comes into effect, the med kits can react in one of three ways.
1. You get downed, med kits spawned, but you’re in downed state. An ally runs over to revive you, running through all the med kits. The med kits actually heal you in downed state, making your revival quicker.
2. You get downed, but manage to revive yourself or you died and you re-spawned, and the med kits go untouched. An ally runs over expecting to get healed via the med kits, but gets healed for nothing. Instead, you actually get healed, no matter where you are on the map. You wouldn’t actually notice this if you were full HP already.
3. You get downed, and either revive or die. Running through the med kits yourself heals you for every med kit you run though, as expected.
So I’m unsure if it’s working as intended, as it certainly doesn’t seem like it is, but still. You do gain some benefit out of it, but only for yourself.
Okay i can honestly say i didn’t see that one coming.

lol wut O.o That is unexpected
I almost really want to run this now, at least for a few pvp matches haha.

The fact that this wasn’t pointed out sooner shows how unpopular that trait is within that line… mind you, I guess it only really exists because every profession needs to have a trait that boosts their downed state in some fashion, but still…
Also could we please get them improved by packaged stimulant (20%)?
Erm… is this implying that people are using packaged stimulants? Because it’s… well, it’s pretty much one of the worst traits engg has. Only real use it has is for predispensing stuff, but I’m not sure if they still retain their buffed numbers if you subsequently swap the trait out. Mind you, I haven’t tested if you could possibly throw the antidote on yourself while immobilized and cure it… Pretty sure that doesn’t work, but it would be weird if it did.
I actually used to run this trait and I know it was working fine at one point (it didn’t heal or revive me quicker) but it did heal my allies. It may have been altered about half a year ago with the change to the trait (used to drop flamethrowers and elixir guns as well, they removed that to increase the downed damage we deal).
@Yamsandjams, To my knowledge at least, you still have to physically run through any of the skill drops, even when thrown directly on yourself, which sorta defeats the purpose of taking that trait anyway.
@konvay, They probably did break it when they made that change, but since it’s one of those traits that most Engineers would never take in a million years, its’ broken functionality has pretty much gone unnoticed. Sorta like how the fact Scope didn’t work at all for almost an entire year after launch, and didn’t get changed till one of the more recent large balance updates, simply because no-one actually used the trait. Hopefully at some point ANet will make a clean sweep of all the downed state related traits and either fix, change, or remove them to make way for better traits.
Holy wow, I laughed my butt off hearing that the trait always heals the engineer no matter where he is.
I thought the main synergy of the trait was with Elixir R, but I’ve been proven wrong. It actually sounds interesting to run in a duo now.
Hmm….
Jump off cliff to commit suicide
Med kits appear
Friend rezzes you without touching kits
Run off while friend stays put
Engage in 1v1 battle and have friend strategically pick up med kits and heal you while you’re fighting battle elsewhere
Win every time
Depending on how long the spawned kits last, you could potentially suicide a couple times to spawn extras.
If the trait doesn’t trigger on defeated/falling death, figure out way to put self in downed state. Any ideas?

They probably don’t last very long. The med kit ones only last like 60-90 seconds.
In addition, if you’re dueling in wvw there are plenty of other ways to cheat. Have a thief or mesmer friend be in stealth and giving you buffs and boons.

I prefer the nearby “afk necro buddy” who just happens to have plague signet equipped.

Last I checked it was 45 seconds. But yeah I would assume as you did, that they would have the same duration as the med kits, med packs.

LOL Now watch us all try this trait for lulz!

It’s shocking to me that they would have it so that the med kits heal the Engineer that dropped them, yet not actually say that is how the trait works. That being said, having the med kits heal the Engie makes this trait slightly less worthless than it appears, because, if your teammates are nice enough to walk over the kits, that’s 10% of your downed health per kit, if the trait’s tool tip is to be believed, which is a decent amount of health.

@NinjaYoshi, It was likely intended for the trait to work exactly as it did before, with the exception of it no longer dropping an Elixir Gun or Flamethrower. However somewhere along the lines they ended up breaking it in some way, hence why it only focuses on the Engineer. And yup, each med-kit heals for the amount displayed in the tool tip.
Honestly, I think it’s better off how it is now, it actually helps the Engineer out while he’s downed, if he has teammates around.

Agree, but who the kitten other than some one reading this thread would know/understand that this is how the trait works… it’s just so… illogical to think that a medpack would heal anyone other than the person picking it up. Even other eng’s I’ve told about this were like… o-O. Dat eng skill logic xD

Isn’t the state of this trait somewhat indicative of the state of Engineer as a whole though? Half the time, we don’t make any kitten sense.
