Why are Grenades not Blast Combo Finishers???
Because they would be even more OP?
Although, it would be ok if one of them was. Blinding maybe?
They are not for balancing reason. While it would appear logical at first glance, they would actually be way too strong if they were blast finishers.
They already provide combo fields and have a low cooldown. If they could also finish, you would constantly blast finish your own zones.
Many blast finishers are fairly powerful and most professions only have a few of them, and typically on some considerable cooldown.
Even with the bomb kit, only the big old bomb serves as a (buggy) blast finisher for exactly that reason.
Yet, as an elementalist you can roll with scepter/dagger and ring of fire, phoenix, dragon’s tooth and give 6 stacks of might to everyone in a 240 radius, 10 seconds of vigor to yourself, and do massive dmg. At least one of the grenades should be a blast finisher, imo
Oh sure. And as an engineer I can place a smoke bomb, a napalm bomb, a poison grenade and the healing turret and can blast finish into them three times using the shield, supply crate and rocket boots for 9 stacks of might, stealth, triple aoe poison and healing.
We already have ridiculous combo options. It just takes the right build and some execution effort, but the same is true for the elementalist. Also note that the vigor is part of the phoenix skill and not a blast finisher. The finisher only gives you the 6 stacks of might for a short time, which isn’t a huge deal.
In return, the grenades do a lot of damage, can be traited to 1500 (!) range, apply conditions and set up combo fields. Sorry, but additional finishers would just be too strong, especially given the extreme range.
That scenario would require a specific weapon set and utility build. The ele’s requires just the weapon set and can be done quicker. Hell, switch to earth, cast earthquake, then arcane blast and tornado. Grant yourself vigor, 12 stacks of might for you and your friends, and burning bolts on everything around you. You even have two utilities still open for arcane power(to make everything you just did critical dmg) and whatever else you want…
You also get to kill the 50 mobs that are around you…
Regardless, I wasn’t trying to get into a pissing contest and I understand that every class has it’s own series of fields and finishers. I would just be better imo to make the engineers a little easier to fire off.
But, with all the combo fields dropping on the periphery of the battlefield (especially in WvW), I can understand the OP nature of my proposal.
Many Engineer kits need a good buff. The grenade kit is not one of them.
If you want a blast finisher to abuse, mines/mine field are a good choice, though melee.

Why was the blast finisher on Big Ol’ Bomb removed anyway?
I’m not sure what’s so powerful about single blast finisher every 30 seconds from it.
It seems kinda random that all of the explosives hardly have any blast finishers.
