From today’s notes:

Smoke Bomb: Fixed the skill facts to display the proper pulse interval.

Why did you think this needed to be changed from 1s interval to 2s? Many of us thought this was a bug that was going to be fixed. You just changed the tool tip instead to account for its changed interval.

Some clarification would be appreciated!

It just showed the wrong tooltip before. Two seconds are a lot less than you think. It wasn’t legitimately 1 second pulses from what I can tell of the past.

It’s like sigil of air, the cooldown is 5 seconds, and it’s not getting changed even if everyone knows the tooltip is a mess.

Now calm down and drink a coffee.

Edit: Nano, that is a 240 circle at least in pve. That skill fact is still -wrong-. Lots of unfixed bugs in the engineer bug thread, just give Anet time.

No it isn’t.

We have already proven this in multiple other threads with video. Use AEDs tool belt skill that has a 180 range. Stand at max range, take a half step back and no bomb will touch or effect the target, with the exception of glue bomb.

No it isn’t.

Yupp. Have not tested it with aed, but on some mobs and you have to get ridicilous close to actually hit.

Hard to build a build avoiding bugs these days.

Then why is it in the bug fix thread?

There were two balance updates for the game in September. One on the 9th, and the other on the 30th.

Nothing about any universal changes toward smoke fields or blind field pulses. Only Black Powder. And nothing about Smoke Bomb. I’ve been inactive over the past year so I didn’t really keep up with bugs, but it appears around this time the wiki post also included a bug issue around the same time that patch was dropped if you read up its revision history.

Clearly you know something the rest of us don’t, so fill us in.

You do understand, that if a random player post it on the forums in a bug thread, that it is not actually a fact, right?

Are you suggesting that a developer has never made any statement about fields, and changes to their pulse intervals? It seems counter intuitive to point out that you have been away from the game, then continue to tell others what has been happening in the game if you ask me.

Why are you busting my balls?

If it’s said anywhere why it was nerfed, show it. But I’ve gone through all the traditional channels and it’s not stated anywhere. You claim it was a change made to “all” blind fields, but there’s no documentation anywhere supporting that statement.

Even Flash Shell has the same problem: 1s posted interval in the tool tip, but ticks every two seconds. If this was an intentional change, then why would a brand new blind field suffer from the same problem?

And why do Well of Darkness, Smoke Screen, and Toss Elixir U not blind on a two second interval like you claim they’re supposed to?

The only one that does this is Black Powder, which is documented to operate this way and says so in its tool tip. This may just be conjecture on my part, but it seems like they broke Smoke Bomb somehow with the Black Powder change and, rather than fixing it, just adjusted the tool tip and left it at that.

Not gonna go forum diving for old stuff. But, basically they felt the blind fields were too strong, able to completely lock down groups of enemies. So they did a sort of soft nerf, to a fast attacking enemy they’d now land more attacks and perhaps layering fields would be beneficial. Certainly a level of confusion with the inconsistency, but if anything I’d say smoke screen is working improperly if it’s really pulsing on 1s intervals, though maybe they wanted it to be better?

Either way, there was a discussion about it back then, though to be honest not sure if it was just players talking or if it was a dev statement.

The data supports Phineas. The wiki notes the 2 second pulse as a bug up until this patch. It notes no other pulses as bugs. The community believed it was a bug up until this patch where it was now confirmed to not be a bug but a feature. A feature that was never announced. So it would seem to me that a request to explain the change is a valid question.

In my experience, walls tend to have a bit of a different functionality based on intent of their use, as do conal fields and effects, in comparison to the circular fields, that are intended for different functionalities.

The wiki notes the 2 second pulse as a bug up until this patch. It notes no other pulses as bugs. The community believed it was a bug up until this patch.

The community did? Or did one player who added that to the wiki cause the community to think that?

Basically every blind field I have tested to this point works according to the interval posted in its tool tip.

The only ones that tick improperly to their tool tip are, as I suspected, Flash Shell and Smoke Bomb.

I’ll continue testing the rest and update accordingly.

This is probable. I’ve been swapping between classes and testing blind fields so I didn’t really spend a lot of time staring at it.

But it still ticks every second, either way.

Either way, whenever it happened, it was nerfed. Before it could have passed as a bug, but since they fixed the tooltip instead, some explanation would be appreciated.

But it wouldn’t be the first time they do something shady like this, anyway (i remember they did the same to some turret fire rate).
