I’ve been trying all sorts of elite specs the past couple of days and I’ve finally returned to the engineer and was wondering with all the negativity going on here if scrapper is actually worth trying out in pve and pvp.
Anyone can tell me the general state the elite spec is currently at?

Omg Scrapper is awesome. Most the negativity here is due to Gyros cause, well, they really need some work. Outside of that, Scrapper is fun as hell. Currently Cele Scrapper is incredible in PvP. In PvE it’s more of just a change of pace, not sure if it out-performs the Engineer in dungeons.

Great in sPvP, in PvE base engineer is much stronger, except for stealth skipping through the new areas with sneak gyro.
Also the elite class mechanic is designed for and only viable in sPvP.

Elite class mechanic is designed for and works in any setting where you are in a group with other players.

WvW: function gyro instantly dies to cleave/area damage or gets cc’d. (I’m not counting solo roaming as WvW)

PvE: no targets that can be stomped, no reliable way to target downed players outside of your group.
In open world PvE chances are great that you’re not in a group or the downed player is not in your group (e.g. boss events).
In dungeons 90% of the time the downed player will be right next to you so you’ll rez him the “normal” way anyway.

Again, since you have trouble reading, I specified the Function Gyro is designed for use in group play. As in, you are in a group. Also, with the new changes to all minions across the board, Function Gyro now takes 95% less damage from indirect AoE cleave, meaning it survives just fine unless specifically targeted. And finally, even if the player is right next to you, having the Function Gyro means you revive the player even faster, or can assist reviving without having to stop your dps or ignore what is going on around you, not to mention instanced PvE content is changing quite a bit and things like this become even more useful.

And one last note, there is still potential that the upcoming Squad UI could very well alleviate the complications of using the Function Gyro during large open world events.

it’s the dream tbh. anet combined my favourite class (engineer) with my second favourite class (warrior). I’ve been unable to play any other class for PvP, 3kit scrapper is too fun to even test revenant.

I love calling my function gyro stomps over TS. my cyber pal is so gosh darn clutch, he almost makes up for hive five useless lesser brethren.

I keep going back and forth. I’m running a Dire Pistol/Pistol Gyro Build and, HoT and PvE in general (and WvW tonight) it’s surprisingly viable. I just solo’d a HoT Champ Troll with little difficulty.

For sPvP yes for PvE i think just for Events ok for WvW Frontline only usefull with Guardians in Group.

Gyros are weak besides some tollbelt skills.

Function Gyro works for me in WvW roaming only once mostly my teamates are quicker in walking to the target and stomping it.

Welp. Dusted of my engineer, been trying her out for a while and kinda love the scrapper. Not fully unlocked( I still need the last 2 skills) but having a blast running around whacking enemies over the head with my hammer. Even the function gyro got some use in events where people went down and I helped them back up.
Do see the flaws in the utility gyros though. Will probably still rock nades as my main kit but the 5 and 3 combined on anything with a breakbar is great!
