Hi guys, I’m looking to get some suggestions for effective p/p condi builds for WvW. I don’t have scrapper spec unlocked yet.

I’ve been running this for ages. It’s a good WvW build. Rocket boots have good burn and escape. Lots of condi removal with the EG and Mortar Kit.

Dire weapons and armor give it plenty of Toughness and Condi. So do the Runes of the Undead.

One thing to do is not rotate so much when in combat – especially if you find yourself in a one-on-one fight. Just keep peppering the other guy with Pistol 1 and -also – don’t discount the value of Elixer Gun 1 with it’s Bleed and Fumble. Fumble is much underrated imho.

I tried using P/P, full trailblazers and practically the same traits/set up as the ones listed and I just get my behind handed to me by thieves and condi mesmers.

Any tips as a P/P engi against those stealth spamming DP/staff thieves? I can’t seem to land a hit on them and when I do they jump back into stealth cleansing everything/waiting it out and they wait out my invulns.

I’m assuming you’re running Elixir Gun and Sneek Gyro. Detection Pulse is a large aoe reveal which is great to use near a black powder/shadow refuge. If you are going toe to toe, throw Super Elixir on you feet and auto attack with tranquilizer. Weakness is extremely strong against thieves. It reduces their endurance regen(dodges) and causes half their attacks to glance(deal half dmg and can’t crit).

If you’re running Flame Thrower, you can also use air blast to knock them out of refuge.

edit: I can’t read. Switch mortar kit to sneek gyro. Combo your healing turret with the extra blast from rocket boots. Don’t be afraid to use gear shield preemptively when the thief is in stealth. Just make sure it’s the second burst and basilisk venom is on cooldown.

This is beyond broken right now.
Why bother with crit when the icd of your intelligence sigill pretty much perfectly aligns with your incendiary powder. You can also often get the burns just by swapping kits by critting your geomancy trigger.

Also no need to bother with trailbazers when you get pretty much 100% burn duration easily in dire.

Im very much a believer of elixir gun over toolkit. You can use acid bomb for mobility and to apply burns through blocks. The goo trail from elixir gun swaps was recently buffed for a longer imob. Elixir gun 3 applys pretty good condi presssure while going through obstacles. You have much better cleanse against other condi builds. Also compared to the toolkit build you have 3 stunbreaks instead of 1.

The rest is just good ol burn+moa=profit.

you have to know when not to attack them. Because they cleanse condis when they evade attacks you basicly have to stop autoattacking everytime you have them loaded up with some condis. Wait for them to respond or cleanse and then load them up again.

I have been playing p/p engi for a while now, even brought me to legend in pvp. With all the new changed, this is what I am aiming to run (got most pieces, however dire will also work). You can swap FT for another elixir is need be (make sure to swap out Juggernaut if you do) The chosen elite is also preference, however I have most success with this one especially in an out numbered/out skilled fight.

This is also a vanilla build as Scrapper doesn’t bring much to the condi table for engi aside from adaptive armor…which wont help as much as the build is kinda tanky. Function gyro is nice for stomping and moving on and sneak gyro is also ok (this will also help with stealthy classes), however I have downed many p/p engis/scrappers with this build (minus FT…I had Elixir U for the quickness condi bomb and projectile hate) so I seem to be swapping between these 2 pending on what I am about to run into (2+ rangers I take Elixir U, no pewpews I go with FT as I can stack an insane amount of burn…my burn rotation kills daredevils in 2 ticks).

I find FT difficult to use becouse i have problem surviving without sneak gyro . So now, mostly for fun i am roaming with this build. It is quite strong in 1vs 1 . The basic idea is to try to take cripple more high than you can becouse obviously this is a not melee setup .

This is what I am using for solo/duo roam. Is an scrapper build, because I think that sneak gyro an unvaluable skill for this game mode. U can swap scrapper line by tools (211) if U still dont have the spacialization. (Change rune to Balthazar y elite with Elixir X or mortar)

The build have good condi duration (50%+33% on burn and bleed), with 1700 of condi damage and 25% crit chance to trigger IP and sigils . So, well played U can see ticks of 5k of burning covered by a minimum 6 o 7 other condis to prevent the condi removal.

high toughness (3200+300 adaptative armor) and vitality (almost 20k), 2 break stuns, 2 invisibility, 2 invulnerabilities and good condi removal make U a hard enemy to kill by other roamers with easy dissengage due invisibility and AB movility while U can kill them on a single burst.

Sigils are really important because both of them place pasive conditions to cover your burn stack (real damage)… and cripple (66% time) helps you to keep the distance against melee enemies.

The build idea is “play like a thief”… place a condi burst (up to 17stacks of burn) and stealh to avoid their offensive momentum while conditions kill them and U /laugh

NOTE against some enemies with a lot of condiclear (DH, Plague Reapers, Berserker stance War…), used to be better dont use your hard condi spike at the start. Wait till they get scared by pasive and low CD conditions and as soon as they use their cleans/inmunes, make them burn with your spike.

For thiefs the best way is wait till you pmace enough conditions and stop shotting to avoid their evade condi removal.

That is very close to how i play p/p scrapper with a mix of TB/Rabid. But I am considering just going full on TB or mixing in Dire in place of Rabid since the new pinpoint distribution change.

There’s no point in going full TB gear. You can get just over 100% burn/bleed duration with just TB(as well as Viper) trinkets. The only reason you would go full TB is if you camp EG and FT. I can understand if you camp EG but it’s more of a slower/methodical playstyle. Maxing out burn for FT doesn’t have the same value as the burn on auto attack occurs at the final tick. The channel time as well as the limited range means enemy players usually dodges it or is out of range altogether.

Like ApaWanka, I find playing P/P like a thief very effective. Usually, I pick a target. Pop Incendiary Ammo. If they’re close, I’ll toss Elixir S, open with blowtorch, then quickly cover the burn with Static Shock. At this point, they’ll dodge and I cast Poison Dart Volley. Some will miss, maybe all if they have enough endurance to double dodge the darts. Doesn’t matter as my goal is to cover the main condi(burn). The single blowtorch burst should hit over 25k with Incendiary Ammo, and if your lucky to crit, another 5k burn with Incendiary Powder proc. If they’re too far, I’ll use Sneak Gyro aggressively and stack stealth. If I’m going yolo, I’ll pick off someone deep in the group and rocket boots when I’m in trouble.

Of course lots of WvW run durability rune/boon food so if that procs, your burst will hit less due to resistance but this tactic has been very successful, it almost feels like cheating.

Note, I left food out because I don’t like +dur foods as I’m cheap and lazy to babysit it. I usually use the lesser provisional +cond dmg food and the first crystal that stacks nicely with toughness. Getting 25 corruption and the food bonuses will get you over 2k condi damage which is pretty insane.

@Xtinct I’ve been trying full trailbrazer for few days, but I change back to Rabid trinkets even after Pinpoint Distribution rework because I feel that I need some critical chance to proc Incendiary Powder and the sigils. That gives me some constant pasive preasure and more coverture to the burning stack (pasive and low CD)

With TB U are more tanki and you condition duration is better , but that push me to inteligence sigil to proc IP. and sigils …. with rabid, I can work without Intelligence Sigil and my burn spike used to be enough to kill before the burn stack finish, and IP and sigils used to proc as soon as they go out of CD, so I dont feel that I need more expertise.

But if you test it and feel something diferent for U, I would like to know your pros and cons. 8p

@Set even with that Im open to test more ideas, so I will try your sigils and check how it works x)

I’ve tried using intelligence sigil to proc IP with a modified opener. Toss Elixir S, Blowtorch, swap to FT and air blast. The problem I ran across is I might get sharpshooter to proc causing bleed but this isn’t enough to cover the burn. By the time you swap back to P/P, your target is dodging/disengaging so you have a hard time covering the burn with Static Shot/poison volley. Most classes can clear 2-3 condis on heal and the way condi cleanse work, it usually prioritize the last condis applied so my goal was to get as much burn in first, and then cover it with blind/confusion/poison.

I’ve tried tried “saving” the intelligence sigil proc by killing a guard or mob, and just before I go out of combat, swap to FT but that became more of a chore.

If I am zerging, I’ll swap Sneak Gyro with mortar kit to cover the max range and FT with grenade kit to cover the midline. I agree with guildabd, Shrapnel is strong so I take Explosives. It’s nice to see a good discussion here. I had more hours on thief than any other class and their sub forum isn’t as constructive as the engi forum here.

Pros:
+ Moderately high condition pressure through 100% duration Burning from several sources along with complimentary cover condition variety to make those burns safely tick.
+ High toughness and auto proc traits will make you very hard to burst down
+ Excellent sustain and condition clearing through the use of Alchemy and Inventions traitlines pumped by your own healing power.
+ Below 75% HP, you have 3 separate forms of passive sustain, which will net you around 500 hp per second and not accounting superspeed when active which will give you a whooping 450-ish hp regen per second by itself.
+ Superior mobility thanks to Rocket Boots and Acid Bomb. This also allows you for some neat getaways if your Autodefense Bomb Dispenser is proc’d, you can blast it with your rocket boots to get stealthed out of danger and use Stealth Gyro if needed for follow up.
+ Great group utility and sustain thanks to Medical Dispersion Field.

Cons:
- Only 1 on-the-fly breakstun. (This is minor has you have a lot of passive defenses and blinds unless heavily overwhelmed).
- Lack of blocks and invulnerables.
- Not the most bursty P/P setup because Firearms is missing.

Fun build to play if you have a mate(s) to tag along, also counters the current ghost thief plague going on , you can singlehandedly shut them down and not die to them.

I was thinking of using Seraph stats but it seems people mostly run a Dire/Rabid mix. The precision for the Incendiary Powder procs and the healing power makes me think of my Cele Rifle/Condi Engi roaming days sans the power/vitality stats. I understand the use of Intelligence Sigil since IP’s icd is 10s and you can set it up easily with a kit swap, but if you have enough precision you can free up a sigil slot for a Torment, Earth, or Doom Sigil.
