WvW Spec/build
Flamethrower might not work out so well in WvW… it depends on the situation, really. If you’re doing a fair bit of group fighting, you might be able to get reasonable use out of the flamethrower, but I don’t feel it’s as great a weapon for roaming purposes. It can also be useful for tower defence since you can shoot the flame jet through the gate at the people on the other side.
Here’s some builds that might be commonly used in WvW (copy and paste the links into a new browser tab if it tells you they are bad links):
1. Tankcat: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fcIQJAqel0pSXH5SfF17IxIFdW0hUgfDL6RlzPlB;TsAA1CtosxYjwGrNObk2MI5Qy0BA
I’m not sure if this one is outdated or not… Anyways, this is mainly a defensive build that focuses on absorbing damage from enemies, rezing downed allies, and stomping downed enemies. One of the main sources of damage is confusion and retaliation, although those recently both got nerfed in WvW. In short, you won’t be killing a lot with this build, but it can be good for supporting allies, harassing enemies, and escaping from medium-sized zergs. You might consider using protective shield instead of cloaking device if you prefer more protection as well, or possibly runes of altruism for better party support and boon duration.
This is a fairly cookie-cutter grenade build focusing on building a high number of might stacks and using powerful grenade and rifle attacks to kill people (I really don’t like the website this build thing is on). The build is fairly squishy, but it does have some defensive utility for when it needs it. It can be great in WvW because you can stay in the midline or backline of your zerg and continually toss high damage grenades at your enemies, and it functions well in close quarters with your CC from the rifle as well as more grenades. It can be a strong contender in small skirmishes as well.
This grenade build focuses on direct damage, although you can find other grenade builds that focus on condition damage instead, which are arguably more powerful. The grenade kit can be a very strong condition damage weapon.

3. Bomber: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIqic3zSfF1LJx4DdO8B8L6R+tsj/UQuA;TQAA1CtMiYKC
This build primarily uses the bomb kit for damage, although the toolkit can put out some decent damage too. It’s mostly defence-oriented, but can be useful in group combat. The idea with this build in WvW is to penetrate enemy lines and drop bombs within their zerg so that your zerg can push in. Essentially, you’re weakening their supports and enabling your zerg to win, but not doing it in a suicidal fashion. The build works best when the zergs are dug in as opposed to fighting in an open field, meaning it will have more effect when using it during a supply camp, tower, or keep attack/defence.
It can be great at disrupting defensive enemy seige (i.e. ballistas and arrow carts in a supply camp or lord room) since you can just drop bombs all over it (big old bomb can knock the users off their seige). It might be kind of boring to use in field combat though, and possibly not very effective either.
4. Dual Pistol Roamer: http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/engineer/?2.1|a.1m.h1b.a.1h.h5|0.0.0.0.0.0|1h.b1h.1h.b1h.1h.71h.1h.71h.1o.71g.1h.b1g|21n.0.2u.d14.2w.d12.21n.0.1o.63.2w.d12|0.u46c.a6.u2ab.0|30.d|2b.2g.2j.2x.30|e
This is a fairly popular build focusing on condition damage with dual pistols as the main source of damage. You basically want to get your buffs up in battle and build as much might stacks as you can with HGH, then let your pistols do the work. The build has some durability and a fair bit of defensive utility as well, so it’s a very well rounded choice that is useful in almost all situations. One of the main disadvantages is that you have no options for combo fields (outside of the supply drop) and only projectile finishers, but this build works well in both group fights as well as smaller skirmishes.
I use this build with 6 runes of altruism instead of all boon duration runes, and the stats on my accessories are a bit different (mostly rabid) but it’s a very solid build. It’s worth noting that this build is generally used in conjunction with the rare veggie pizza consumable, which provides an additional 40% condition duration for a total of +50% condition duration with the giver’s pistol. This can make the conditions you apply a lot more potent.
Alternatively, you can put 10 into explosives instead of inventions and take incendiary powder. You’ll lose some defensive utility, but you’ll gain another source of burn that will allow you to have a very good uptime on burning in conjunction with the blowtorch skill. You can also ditch the givers pistol and go with another carrion (or whatever preferred stats you want) since you get 10% condition duration from explosives.
5. Static Discharge: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fcEQFAUl0pqdH5STF17IxoHkuzbGMD763vHYLA;ToAg0Cno4ywlgLLXOukcNoYSA
This is a cookie-cutter static discharge build, so-named because it takes the static discharge trait. It’s probably better to find a video on how to use it, but the basic combo is to immobilize someone with net shot while closing in on them, spam your F2, F3, and F4 tool belt skills all at once, and follow up with a jump shot right on top of the person while they’re still immobilized. If they’re still alive, go into blunderbuss, overcharged shot, magnet, then prybar, and hopefully they’re dead by then. If they’re not, you might be in trouble because this build is extremely fragile. Gear shield might be able to get you out of a few situations though.

half of those are bad links :P
You’ll have to copy and paste the links into a separate browser tab. The links themselves aren’t bad, just the way the forums handle them. I thought they fixed that somewhat, but maybe not.
Anyways, I should mention that in my post, I’ll go edit it.
Alright cheers for the help, I will have a look in them tonight and try out all the specs see what is mroe of my playstyle I do how ever like the Bomber one, will give that a first try, thank you again
Wow I’ve been looking for a post similar to this and you have answered literally everything I could want Yams.
The only thing I’m confused on is just in general, why do so many people use Tool Kit. I’ve been away from the game for several months but when I left, Tool Kit was only ever used for the belt skill coupled with static discharge. Do it get massive buffs or something? Or are people just using it for utility purposes?

It got buffed quite a while back… the gear shield was bumped up to a 3 second block instead of 2 seconds, and the magnet skill can pull from a 1200 range instead of the original 600. The kit was almost never seen originally, but after these buffs it started being used in WvW a lot, as well as sPvP.
They also buffed pry bar to inflict 5 stacks of confusion for 5 seconds instead of 3 stacks for 4 seconds, although the recent confusion damage nerf in WvW has reduced the potency of this buff.
In short, it has a combination of defensive utility, a pull, and a good burst-like ability. A common way to use the kit is to magnet someone in and hit them with pry bar when they’re still getting up, then hitting them with something else. The auto-attack is not frequently used on the kit, but it has its moments (good for clearing out siege if not using bomb kit as well).

I can’t remember if there was a demo video for that bomb build I linked, but there’s a pretty similar one in another thread here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Build-Video-Diving-Into-Zergs/first#post1538414
The video for that one is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeD5yRL2i3Q&feature=youtu.be
I think the traits and equipment is slightly different, and it uses medkit instead of healing turret, but the playstyle is the same (build link is in the description of the video that person made). I’m not sure about runes of vampirism though, although that’s always something that can be played with.
Uhm on number 4 dual pistol roamer it doenst shows what ability’s yo uare using for 6-7-8-9 and what is HGH
Uhm on number 4 dual pistol roamer it doenst shows what ability’s yo uare using for 6-7-8-9 and what is HGH
that website is a little crappy… The utility skills are under the “Slot skills” tab, and the ones selected have yellow highlighting around them, they also show the descriptions by default.
For ease of reference, the heal skill is Elixir H, and the utilities are Elixir B, Toolkit, and Elixir S. Supply Crate is the elite.
HGH is a grandmaster trait in the elixir line which allows you to build might stacks with elixir utility skills. See: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/HGH
I would strongly suggest the addition of escape skills along with a fast snare cleanse if you’re playing WvW, be it from the leapback from Elixir Gun’s Acid bomb, Rocket Boots, or OP blocks such as the Shield offhand or Toolkit’s Gear shield. Without it, expect a single cripple or immobilise to mean your potential death.
You will die a lot to zergs running you down if roaming if you don’t pack escape skills. For an example of how important kiting can be in WvW, check out Koroshi’s kiting video. Positioning, kites, escapes, and escape denial play huge roles in WvW, even more so than power or condi burst. It’s a huge force multiplier than can enable you to win fights.

Looks great Amadeus, escpaciallythe Napalm Specialist, I will try it with flamethrower as I realy enjoy using the flamethrower the most, just wondering would those work for Pve aswel?
I personal run my Condition Grenadier quite often in PvE, swapping into Max Condition duration gear, swapping out Tool Kit for whatever I feel I want to use at the time, often bomb kit or Elixir Gun, and Med Kit I swap for Healing Turret!
It got Perma Burning, Perma Posion, Nice loong lasting bleeding and can put out 15-20 Vulnerbillity stacks quite easy! It works just fine up to FOTM Level 15-16, that’s the farest I have bothered to go ^^^
I would swap Power Wrench for Scope, but it does still appear bugged to me for some reason <.<
I just fixed the link to it, was bugged for some reason!
I think the Napalm Specialist should be able to work as well, if you are the only one stacking the burning
