So I’ve been tooling around with turrets in WvW and I’m really enjoying it! I’m running a 20/10/30/0/10 build with full rabid gear. Its working out great! Being able to throw turrets on twer walls to attack people on siege that would normally be inreachable is fantastic! Using the rifle, net, rocket and healing turrets. I lack stun breaks and condition removal but its so kitten fun I don’t care at all! I’ve tried power turret builds and not liked them as much. The extra condition dmg really helps out. I also use veggie pizza so I’m at about 60 condi duration. So prolonged immobilize from the net turret too. All in all just fun as hell!

Fun to hear, I do WvW mostly myself so always interested in hearing how different ideas work out in there.

This said: the ‘turret on wall’ thing is of course fun, but also pretty limited. They tend to die pretty fast once the defenders realise that’s where the shots are coming from.

I was originally 10/20/30/0/10 but put 10 from firearms into explosives to get the explosive turrets trait specifically to use on people on tower walls. They’re way less effective if you can knock them off the wall even if only for a little bit.

Also I’ve found that having the turrets set up you can use them sometimes in place of a stun break for those 100 blades warriors. It doesn’t specifically break stun but you can detonate a turret while knocked down to knock your opponent away if you fight near the turrets.

Some turrets are worth mentioning, but they often serve condition builds. I tend to use the Net Turret from time to time since condition duration also affects the duration of immobilizes, 5-6s per Net thrown, including the toolbelt skill and the Supply Crate, very annoying to deal with, bane to Thieves.

getting 5 stacks of vulnerability is fun too with a net turret.

Immobilize them with net turret toolbelt (always start with those before you need the actual turret), follow with rifle or pistol immobilize, net turret overcharge… that’s 15 stacks of vulneability.
Hurts a lot if power build, bit less of course in condi build but still.

My favourate weapon of choice if I can pull this of: Tool Kit!
That one hurts at that point, it really really does.

Just another example, the cripple is pretty good fun as well, and maybe even more practical.
But if you traited Power Wrench, you will be crippling them anyhow so the vuln is extra damage.

So, I played around with turrets in wvw tonight. I think they are useful in small sized skirmishes(3-12 people.) I found fully traited turrets allowing me and a small group to defend against a much larger group of people that decided not to kill the turrets. I was pretty amazed whekittenof us managed to wipe about 10-15 people.

Beyond that , they begin to become less effective. In zergs you go without survivability, and really the only thing you can do is take down siege by putting your turrets up on walls, which admittedly is pretty entertaining. If you place the turrets right, they will reach siege that even AOE can’t reach. My turrets managed to kill the person on a mortar and the mortar.

However, to participate in a large siege on a keep or garison and not constantly die I NEED condition removal, invulns, and boons which locks a full turrets build out. I was downed more tonight taking hills than I’ve been downed in weeks of playing a p/p hgh build. Even with toughness stacked up to the roof, you just don’t get enough survivability. As it stands, I am trying to arrange a turret build that can be swapped into something useful ikittenerg on the fly by just swapping a few traits, but 30 into inventions just blows that out of the water.

Overall, it was a positive experience, but I don’t think I could run a fully traited turret build unless I was in a small camp taking group or some small roaming group preferably with a guardian or anyone that can get conditions off of me.

I think I’d be moderately happy with turrets in small sized wvw groups if I could manage to get deployable turrets, exploding turrets, rifled turrets, and coated bullets. Unfortunately, you just don’t have enough trait points to arrange that. Give me a tier 1 or tier 2 trait, SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN INVENTIONS, that makes healing turret remove all of my personal conditions on deployment and then 1 group condition every pulse and I’ll be perfectly satisfied with turrets.
