hi! im a budding engineer and while i am level 80 i dont actually have much expertise or experience with the class. i want to go into wvw but i definitely dont want to go in using a class i dont know how to play!

i wanted to use a condition damage engineer, heres the build i ended up making:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQJAqalUUhatYJWw+KQ7FLsF1YbMGfB4HWiBwXSdhHAA-T1SAQBCc/Bsp0Lg6BIwBGYaKBDpygIq+T6MBFgTAAh0QAgHAApAgZsF-w

i have access to scrapper but im just not sure what to do with it, if anything, for condi build., you are all more experienced than i am, so i was looking for insight or help!

i also have a bit of a dilemma when it comes to using toolkits and my tool belt: these things, especially the mortar kit and the grenade kit, are super inefficient to use unless youre using the keys to use them O:

im trying to get into using keys & break my bad habit of clicking but ive found that the makes it hard to move around, especially when your fingers are moving up into the f1s and f2s and so on. i might just have small hands, but do you guys have any tips to abate the awkward feeling of using keys or is it just a matter of practice?

thanks!

For using hotkey instead of mouse clicking, if you hold right click then left click you’ll be able to move with your mouse, so you tradeoff which hand is doing what as needed… you get used to it. Also I don’t use f-keys at all. I use Shift + key. Customize it to yourself but as an idea I have: 1,2,3, R, F, Z, X, shift+X, shift+C for my normal 1-10 keys. Then F1=shift+1, F2=Shift2, F3=Shift3, F4 = Shift+R, and F5 I have bound to a mouse button.

What kind of WvW play are you looking for? Zerg, Havoc, Solo Roam they’ll all ask different things of you, like I’d make sure to have at least some stealth and probably reveal on a solo build but in a zerg you really don’t have to worry about that stuff much.

Your current setup is not very advisable, it’s kind of a yolo condi build, hope they didn’t bring much condi cleanse and defensives.

my server tends to do a lot of zergs, of which ive taken a liking to, so a build for those would be pretty good!

& yeah, i think a big problem on my character right now is that she cant do a whole lot of damage ):/

This is what I run in WvW, I can dip in and out of frontline, when at range hazing with mortar for decent damage, then jumping in with plenty of stability (self sufficient) and wack away for a few thousand damage a hit. Scrapper is very versatile easily swapping from range to melee with just a button, lay some chills for the non ‘resistance’ users, and a stun with Thunderclap on engage for anyone without stability. It may not be GREN but it’s solid for sure. Provide mobile water field + secondary water field for resets. Stability both personal and group. Additional protection and blocks for self survival, and some personal might. Overall I enjoy it and find it quite effective.

I can also take it into just roaming or small scale havoc and while I might swap a utility or two I have a lot of success.

I would say something along the lines of the build Jerus posted is more of where you probably want to be with your build than your current setup.

As for killing your bad habit of clicking step 1 is to unbind keyboard turning and use M1+M2 togather as Jerus said. Step 2 is going to be a process. You need to rebind keys so that you can function most efficiently. I took a pretty minimal approach (only rebinding 6-0 to Q, Z, X, C, E) keeping the base layout and only rebinding the worst offenders.

Here an example of a more extreme keybind setup.

There are plenty of threads here and elsewhere if you want to check out others keybinds, but that was just one example.
