Also where is the reflect and block when using pistol pistol… They increased the skills a bit but it has no defence. Pointless really.
if u take tools and power wrench block every 13.5 secs is quite strong … add elixir S to the build and it seems to me not bad.
I have been pulling at this thread for a while now and am glad to see that it has finally come to fruition. The change to AED was much needed, although I think with competent players we might see a slight increase on the cd to 35s due to the combination of gadgeteer overcharging it to a 33% uptime “you can’t attack me” button. I already developed a prototype a while back that would look something like this. This would need some minor tweaking here and there, but prove fun and challenging overall despite some of the overly dramatic nerfs to hammer.
try this, it is a very common build. The real problem only is to fight necros and condi warrior but it is quite fun ( it is not mine ) . It is not strong as power hammer , ok , but it works quite well if you play smart ( don’t go 1 vs 1 when you know you can not win ) . Obviously with pistols you need toolkit and power wrench .. it is quite mandatory .

Elixir S seems counterproductive to AED as the two could interfere with each other. Unless you have an unnatural sense of prediction, S could trigger after you pop AED in extended fights and cost you dearly. AED needs that pseudo-death trigger in order to cleanse.

I had a different approch but the idea is the same, take tools and a gadget for avoiding to take alchemy and invention. This is the build i tried yesterday and it seemed to me to work quite well :

AED toolbet + Expert examination + rocket kick is an awesome combo . This build has really a good condition burst (from burning ) and you can cover burning with a lot of condition to remove .

He probably referred to the trait that procs elixir S. I think that with A.E.D. now you can try to play without alchemy at all ( try , i am not saying it will be new meta but for sure it is fun )

If you play your build taking gadgeteer , aed and rocket boots you can make really good damage and in the same time it is quite viable.

it is not a problem, it is an opportunity to play with a different playstyle

Hard to answer. Notelite specs are harder to play . Power engi not Scrapper is unviable. Condition Engineer not hot is viable. It is much harder than scrapper, you have to chose which fight you can win and which fight you can not win ( warrior condi and necro are hard ) but it is not unviable . I used Chaith condition build ( rabid, balthazar, firearms, tools , alchemy with ft, toolkit ,elixir S , elixir X) and i arrived diamond quite fast. Obviously it is not good for high level pvp , but if u play for fun it is viable .
yeah i got to diamond fast too because its easy when all the good players vacate the lower divisions and the few stragglers all get grouped together every game for free win streaks

without hammer ? i find really more difficult engineer power ( not scrapper ) rather than condi , not for a particular problem but for the projectil hate that is present in this game … i think that rifle need a buff , pistols now are ok … shield … is really trash for the ethernal cd
Condi engi is still trash and will always be trash until we have a reliable method of applying condis while maintaining the same kind of defensive power that other classes have.
And so my HOPES are still useless so the game will remain uninstalled.
Also AED is still garbage. Not taking alchemy for pvp is suicide.

The only way to bring back condi engi/scrapper is reduce shield CDs to make them similar to other profesion blocks/reflects.

That CD are too bigs in comparision with other similar skills. So, till that issue is solved, condi engi will not be reliable in Pvp or WvW (it could be playable against some profesion but not enough consistent)

Dont forget also duration of “blocks”, specially shield 5 is supper short.
Beside its not just shield that is the problem here. If you take shield your weapon will do ZERO dmg. And you will have to compensate with utility spells and lots of traits. The good thing about hammer is you get similar defensive options (better?) and huge damage on its own, that you dont have to put any traits into it. Meaning you can put all traits/spells mostly to utility and survival.
And for shield condi engi to do semi decent dmg you need at least 2 damage traitlines and 1 damage utility spell.
