Timelord to Lillium Honeybuns, IoJ
Forever together, or not at all.
been playing 2 weeks as of today, have been lurking the forums quite a bit too, and the one thing that i keep seeing if that people dislike our elite skills, well dislike or wish they were buffed.
that being said, what would you like to be an elite skill?
Id personally like to have a steam golem in the 30 point elite tier, like below.
little rework of skills etc and it would really be cool…that or an ancient dwarf hand cannon ( portable mortar, reduced movement speed and disabled dodge to balance it out)
I would like a proper Elite of all skill types, to replace or rework the current choices. Mortar is a disgrace to the already subpar Turret category, and can’t even operate without supervision, Elixir X is the same hodgepodge of other classes’ skills as Elixir U, and Supply Crate is just a few of our utility skills in a box – and Supply Crate is the best of the three.
There should be a good Elite Turret, Elite Elixir, Elite Kit and Elite Gadget, with effects unique to the Engineer profession. I’m not sure what these should be, besides better than the current selection.
Glad you made this thread I was thinking of one elite in particular for turrets.
Tesla Turret (Cooldown: 180 Seconds if destroyed and 90 or 120 seconds if picked up)
Radius : 600 or 900 (with the obvious 5 man limit aoe)
This turrets zaps any nearby foe for lightning damage each 0.5 seonds and dazes them for 1 second every 15th attack (10th if traited) Activation skill is overcharging the tesla turret increasing damage and stunning nearby enemies for 1 sec each 0.5 seconds for a total of 5 seconds leaving the turret unable to zap for a few seconds before re-activating.
it’d look like the ele’s lightning scepter skill and would obviously be larger than other engineer turrets.
it’d be droppable like the supply crate with a range of 600 or 900.
really i would just be happy if they make our current elites work not thet i don`t think a mass rework is needed but its not likely.
mortar is awkward & clumsy and my pistol auto attack hits harder and the useful skills have to long cd if you consider the rounds travel time .
its basically a self gimp if you use it (in pvp its like a big sign come kill me and 2 shot my mortar).
elixir x the warrior version is kinda ok not great just ok but the tornado is simply bad it never hits anyone doest do dmg (to low to call it dmg its like 1 stack of bleed) and just makes you a free kill.
tho the blind, knockback & stability are nice just not useful coz you never hit and no one really need to cc you just smack you dead.
supply crate is the best of a bad lot 99.9% of the ppl use it as a default most ppl dont really like it but its the only one remotely useful.
i only use it in pvp for the 2 sec stun and the bandages the turrets get killed in mid air by a mesmer phantasm or a ranger pet.
again i think anet need to rethink our elites and replace them with cool fun and usable ones but for now this is what i think they need to do to make a minute qol changes to bring up Mortar, elixir x & the supply crate
mortar:
first thing is to make it portable and for it to give some skills when you carry it like a warrior banner.
up its dmg by 70% ofc with the 5 man aoe cap.
and lower the skills cd.
elixir x:
drop the tornado leave only the juggernaut but make 2 skills as healing skills not a exact copy of the warrior elite skill we are engineers not warriors this makes you fight in melee not our strong side to say the least so 2 healing skills to buff up our survivability is fair.
supply crate:
qof fix is to lower the cd 180 is just to much 90/120 is more like it.
its not like its a grossly op elite.
and for all i care dont let it drop turrets only good for a boss fight in pve so…
i really do hope they will do something… anything… this is just one of the many many many things wrong with engineers.
I use the Asuran Golems alot in PvE.
But for the Engineer Elites:
Mortar – I have only used a few times and I don’t really find it useful at all, or at least not as useful other things I could be doing instead of just sitting on in it. To me it is a lame completely situational skill that you would never use in smaller grp fights or 1v1.
Supply Crate – Is the best skill we have and when used right it can be pretty devastating or it will at least allow an escape. I usually drop it in the first part of a fight rather than save it. This way you can collect the meds packs while doing damage and maybe lure them into the turrets. Most of the time in PvP though ppl will just move a little bit away from it and basically void your elite all together. Also if you drop it on a thief (half decent one anyways) they will quietly thank you for the free stealths they just recieved.
Elixir X – I just started using this alot in WvW, I don’t care for the RNG on any skills but if you want to just have some fun and not be to critical about how good you do than Elixir X is worth a try.
It basically boils down to 2 things:
-If you want to stomp enemies while underfire or rez allies then the Brute form is pretty nice, you will have tons of HP and an take alot of hits so when a zerg goes down from rushing into siege you can hope for this and get a few stomps in. It can also be usefull to use the dash attack to rush into a grp then stomp to send them flying. You wont get alot of DPS but you can harass nicely.
-The tornado is good for one thing. When you are fighting around cliffs or on a bridge you can hope to get tornado and with any luck you can wipe a zerg all by yourself. It is rare that I have gotten lucky enough to have all the pieces fall in order but the few times they have it was awesome. I can claim at least 10+ kills with one tornado by knocking a zerg off the cliff at hills.
So imo all RNG needs to be changed but in the meantime if you get bored of Supply Crate, roll the dice with Elixir X it can be a blast.
To the OP: your suggestion for a hand cannon is something the Charr have: Charrzooka, me being a charr I would feel weird having 2 of them.
Supply Drop: Love it tbh, turrets are okay, especially when i solo content, not so much in dungeons, but the medkits save my kitten when I solo and also support my group in dungeons ( I am a supporty engineer). In PvP can be good to: stuns on impact and the net turret is nois. Medkits of course are also good stuff in pvp.
Mortar is kinda fun to use I guess, but not very powerful. In WvW it’s pretty alright also because others can use it.
Elixer X: meh, I dont use it on land and I have to underwater. Does okay damage and AoE’s and sometimes saves me, but its pretty meh I agree.
Supply Crate Good as it is.
Mortar Increase range to 1,800. Increase recharge of Rocket skill to 60. Make the rocket skill fire one large bomb, instead of five small ones. Have it knockback foes. Remove line of sight requirement. Increase recharge to 180 seconds.
Elixir X Change functionality to: Gain 10 stacks of malice and might for 20 seconds. Lower Recharge to 90
Add new Elite Gadget:
Thrusters Recharge 90 seconds. Activation 0. For 10 seconds, you move twice as fast and ignore all slowing effects. Gain stability for 10 seconds. Breaks Stun.
Add new Elite Kit:
Create Rocket Kit Allows you to switch in and out rocket kit for 25 seconds. 180 recharge.
RPG 500 damage. Causes burning (200).
Rocket Jump Launch yourself into the air. 1,500 range. (Like Jump Shot, only it allows you to go up). Recharge 20.
Multi-Shot Fire five rockets at your foe. (damage(x5) 2,000)
Explosion Fire a rocket at your foe that knocks them back.
Napalm Shot Fire a rocket that burns foes at target location for 5 seconds (damage on impact: 500) (damage on tick from burning: 500). Duration 10 seconds. Creates a fire field.
Blast Fire an explosive shot at target location. (Blast Finisher). 20 second recharge.
RPG kit won’t happen, but I can dream.

Rocket Kit wont work: Charr have something very, very similar.

I like Thrusters, Rocket Kit, and Multi-Shot. How about we add a Lightning Field to Thrusters, make Rocket Kit and Multi-Shot Blast Finishers?

I am not sure about the specifics, but I think this idea heads somewhat in the right direction.
Yes, the mortar needs to not be a total disgrace. It’s awful in every way right now.
Elixir X has a terrible opportunity cost to its effectiveness, and you’re really vulnerable in those forms despite being a juggernaut or weather. The forms could stand to be buffed really. The tornado is already pretty good, but maybe some more durability couldn’t hurt. Enemy players in PvP/WvW could always just run away from it because it’s actually pretty slow. The juggernaut form could stand to have punch damage increased. It’s pretty stupid that you can have higher DPS more easily while not using your elite, even if it does let you stomp and spam control on 1 enemy mercilessly.
I have to say that sometimes tornado can be a real hoot. There’s nothing like charging into the zerg as a tornado and disrupting them bad enough that they’re wiped by your zerg. I also did this to a massive siege emplacement in greenvale supply after I snuck around them. It helped everybody charge in, wipe all that siege, cap, and finally take care of their row of trebs hitting bay.
Norn racial spirit forms are awful. I hardly ever even see anyone use them just to screw around. Elixir X is sadly better than all of them, not that I think anyone needs or should use any of them.

I would LOVE an Elite Sniper Kit skill. It would equip a beautiful sniper rifle that only lasted for…. a minute or two tops before vanishing. During that time you would have access to a whole range of skills connected to the sniper gun. A very long range attack, some kind of ranged vulnerability applier, a stealth ability, and a “headshot” ability that would do a ton of single target damage.
one thousand times yes to an elite sniper kit skill.
if you have trouble visualizing that for an engineer. just remember old doc brown

I don’t see why sniper kit has to be elite…
Maybe if it wasn’t for stealth. I’d love a guillie suit ability where you can stay camo forever as long as you don’t move. Set up some good ambushes that way, more guerilla dolly smacking in WvW.
it has been suggested before, I want to mention it because most people wanted something like that
An elite to repair siege weapons
An elite to repair siege weapons
Definitely this, although toolkit auto-attack could do it slowly if needed.
