I’m currently running a 10/10/0/20/30 build
full perplexity runes

VI
I XI
VI VIII XII

I just can’t seem to get the mesmers down, they’re always full healing while hiding behind their clones and it’s just a big frustrating mess. How are you guys beating good mesmers and what build are you running?

I can’t speak to “good” Mesmers, I’m sure a really good Mesmer eats most people for breakfast.

As for Mesmers in general, I have trouble with them but after enough practice you get quicker and quicker at identifying the real one.

What weapons are you running in that build? Utilities? That is essential for me to take down a Mesmer. Since its move to Master tier, I play Coated Bullets on my pistol a lot. This helps me so the clones don’t block the Mesmer when I find it. AOE is key against a Mesmer I think. I’m not the greatest against them, but when I am successful it’s from landing a lot of good AOE. I don’t think they have great condition removal either, so pile those on.

That’s not a lot of AOE, makes it tough.

Remember to dodge forward through any clones you notice running straight at you. They are running at you to shatter, so that’s something you can avoid and take away some of the potency of the Mesmer.

You must stay focused on the real mesmer.

Look at the movement of the clones, clones never move backwards or dodge.
With bombs you have good ae damage i use coated bullets too so there is a bit more ae.

If you focused the real meser with condition they die quickly cause the most mesmer i faced didnt have much condition removal.

But it depends on the build the mesmer has some builds are hard for me too.

Good mesmers are really tough for anyone to beat 1on1.

Mesmers rely on cooldowns a lot, so just try to keep pressure and make him burn utilities. Without cooldowns they are really crippled.
Against shatter mesmers use your shield #5/toolkit #4 if you get immobilized, because they’re going for shatter+Blurred Frenzy when that happens. Shield #5 also interrupts the BF.
Against condi mesmers you really need to pay attention to what conditions are on you, and try to cleanse torment, confusion from scepter #3 and big bleed stacks. If you see the mesmer is blocking, do not attack. You gonna get 5 stacks of torment if you do.

Since you got EG and rocket boots, you have few ways to get distance if the pressure gets too hot. Mesmers are really bad at chasing people.

It’s really tough and intense fight, but still doable. Odd thing is that when I play my mesmer, I have trouble with good condi engineers. And when I’m on my engi, I have trouble with good mesmers.

Against condi mesmers you really need to pay attention to what conditions are on you, and try to cleanse torment, confusion from scepter #3 and big bleed stacks. If you see the mesmer is blocking, do not attack. You gonna get 5 stacks of torment if you do.

If you do attack, you can dodge the torment stacks.

Some mesmers will fall to significant condition pressure since they don’t have a lot of ways to deal with conditions aside from utilities. So if you can be sure to keep landing your burnings and poison, they may be forced to back off. It’s usually the way I end up beating them.

If you’re using perplexity runes, you’ll need to focus on trying to interrupt them to ensure you get that nice stack of confusion. If they’re using a sword, this can be easily done by using static shield when they attempt to hit you with blurred frenzy. Of course, that’s only one interrupt, but it’s better than nothing. It’s more common for people running perplexity to take bomb kit and possibly flamethrower for more interrupts, which would also give you some AoE potential. If they’re playing a ranged phantasm mesmer, it can be more difficult to interrupt them.

The grenade kit can also be very useful against them since you can combat them from range with solid AoE pressure.

Also, be careful about killing the clones/phantasms. You may want to do this depending on what build they’re using, but it’s not uncommon for mesmers to have traits that cause the death of clones or phatasms to hit you with additional conditions in a nearby AoE, so it would be best to try and kill them from range.

You can also use the clones to your advantage since static shot may bounce off of them and hit the mesmer twice, meaning you can get extra confusion on them.

Also keep in mind that clones generally don’t do any damage, so if a bunch of clones are attacking you it’s no reason to panic. Phantasms will do the damage, but they’re noticeable. The mesmer may have the trait where the clones and phantasms will do bleeds on crits though, so watch out for that.

Kiting them tends to reduce their Clone and Phantasm damage rather significantly. If you can’t pressure them hard with Condi-Dmg then you are going to have to figure out all of their damage avoidance skills and get past them. Unfortunately they can have a whole lot of those.

Most mesmers got the “illusions bleed on crits” -trait.
2-3 staff clones actually do pretty nasty damage, because staff clones cast Winds of Chaos(7s bleed, 1s burn or 5s vulnerability on each hit) and put extra 5sec bleed on each crit. Not to mention the bounces give might and fury to the mesmer.
