is power/precsision/toughness worth going? (pve)
Due to the nature of the Engineer, I don’t think it’d be realistic to expect any builds to truly be ‘tanky’. The profession is relatively frail but makes up for it with utility.
im using 3 kits anyway and most of the time im jumping across the screen, laying bombs, smokescreens, acid bombs and whatever else. but still, i feel so god darn squishy
To be honest I found going condi / toughness / healing better for being tanky. Since when I want to be tanky I always run P/ S. The shield block moves are simply awesome.
But I haven’t tried a power build with the gear you suggested. You might be able to get ok damage with the grenade kit or bomb kit using that gear setup. The scale well off just power.
I have used pure power/precision/toughness gear recently. At first I saw my Hit pointsand though, well heck this won’t work, I got no health. Then I went into combat and say how little damage I was taking and was surprised.
Give it a shot. If you o not like it, change. I am honestly surprised to see so many threads of this nature. It is so cheap to reset traits and re gear, It is just easier to try it for ones self with the cheap price of gear right now.
That’s what I use. Nice find.
I use it because:
I need power for my grenade/rifles.
I need precision for triggering incendiary powder/sharpshooter and general DPS increase.
I need toughness to stay alive.
Furthermore, I have 20 points in alchemy, which is equal to 200 vitality, which is 2000 health. I don’t necessarily need to invest in vitality as a stat if you have around 20-30 points there, nor do you need HEAVY precision with the likes of rampagers if you go for 20-30 of firearms, and you don’t need maximum power if you go with the likes of 20-30 explosives.
So for me, my 30,20,0,20,0 build. It works out very well.
Im running Power/Precision/Crit damage
96 percent critical damage and 41 percent critical chance (51 while standing still) 3.5k attack.
I roll faces with grenades

No doubt a stiff breeze will faceroll you too :S
I honestly think that the berserker gear is only for warriors.
They have the highest armour and HP to offset the huge loss from equipping that stuff.
I 1v3’d a group of people in WvW.
People doubt the utility of bomb kit and then it kicks your behind.
ok, i just went for power/toughness/healing power and im kinda impressed.
paired with the healing turrent, elexir gun and “kit refinement” from tools,
full explosions and inventions and took “healing bombs” from there too.
im practicaly unbeatable agaginst 4 mobs (lvl80 orrian) beating on me.
and thats without even trying to dodge anything.
crits are pretty much gone this way but hey, i can take way more then i ever could before

Ahh the cleric bomber build.
I ran that once.
I didn’t like it in the end, not enough damage and support wasn’t THAT great.
Whatever floats your boat of course.
Build as tanky as you want, eventually you’re going to have to start dodging.
As you’ve built up precision, try out using Infusued Precision from the Firearms tree and Invigorating Speed in the Alchemy tree if you can spare the points. This gives you some insane uptime on vigor (i usually have it up 75%+ of a fight) Or alternatively, use Invigorating Speed and the Elixir Guns #2 ability for similar results, but with a power build it may be better to go with option 1.
If you have survivability issues try using net turrets chain immobilise for melee mobs (or spam bombs while running in circles) and if you can spare more trait points, pick up Protection Injection from the Alchemy tree.
I would say to use Cloaking Device from the Inventions tree, but it’s kind of bugged and not worth picking unless you run with kits that don’t auto attack.
Last tip is that i think endurance regen has a cap at 100% so trying to build beyond that is useless.
toughness is never a bad idea on the engineer. you can troll melee quite long and effectively with all the blinds and knockbacks but avoiding ranged attacks is much harder and you will eventually get hit.
So I mostly have the exotic berserker set at this point (sort of a combo of crafted and dungeon pieces)… If I gem’ed for toughness in my armor, do you think that would be good enough or should I consider swapping some berserker gear with some other gear that has toughness?
I did a Vitality, Condition Damage, and Toughness build. I usually can outlast my opponent… it’s kinda fun. Unfortunately, to see really any results with survivability (in my experience, anyway), I’ve needed to stack both vitality and toughness.
somehow i thought going for power/precsision/toughness was a good idea and thats why all my gear has these skills (knight).
i’ve got 1815 tougness right now which results in 2786 armor with 18k health.
sure ive got a big problem when i get conditions, but i can remove them pretty fast. nevertheless, I keep dying so often, i quite sure im doing something wrong here.
This is not the expected “tank” set i was hoping for. i tried so many build and somehow i refuse to believe that stacking toughness was worthless.am i wrong? is toughness realy that worthless?
toughness is great, if you have some regen.
passive tank without passive regen just means you die very very slowly.
