need advice vs thief underwater
I play thief pretty much as my only charater. While I see alot of these threads about scrubs winning about stealth and there lack of understand on what to do. I have not seen someone mention spear evade.
Our 3 and 5 buttons on spear are completly broken in PvP and makes a thief unkillable. I have seen 3 people on top of a thief trying to kill him and can’t even move his life bar. I don’t use it in PvP. Its unfair and one of the many reasons I don’t take PvP serious in Guild Wars 2.
Your best options are not to malee but to just range him. Eventually he might run out of initiative if you do malee but its best just to let him him run away. Its a game flaw.
This might help, its an old thread about the same topic.

Elixir X with Elite Supplies and fast acting alixirs
I honestly feel my engineer is almost unkillable in underwater pvp, here are the reasons:
-#2 harpoon gun hits freaking heavy
-#5 harpoon gun immobilizes like crazy and that’s extremely important for underwater-node-defending
-Bomb kit, it allows a huge BoB that usually clears the area and make it harder for enemies to engage you, also it grants extreme control even in crowded situation due to its AOE nature, blinds and cripples with that 3D AoE’s gonna help a lot
-net turret, even more immobilize and you’ll be unreachable for those classes betting on close range underwater fights
-rocket turret, may sound stupid, but it actually is useful combined with net turret makes a lot of control
All those skills combined make you literally invincible in underwater fights in 1v1, maybe even vs other engineers as you can setup with turrets, also they help you notice enemies which would sneak up to your back.
And I gotta agree with Rezzet, elixir X (alone though, untraited) really helps outnumbered underwater fights.
Elixir Gun, Elixir X, Thrown Elixir S and B, Grenade Kit, and a bit of toughness.
Nuff said.
Don’t even use the harpoon…
Engi is the born combat swimmer!
I don’t get why we’re so good underwater really.
Nevermind, awesomeness fix incoming next piatch. ._.

Don’t even use the harpoon…
Do use the harpoon.
Double tap Harpoon 2 at melee range, it does huge damage, then use Harpoon 4 (also good damage) before you switch to a kit.
Will try to squeeze that in between all the other underwater awesomeness!

Why fiddle around. Every other profession seems totally faceroll under water. Use: H/B/U/?/X. Pop them in order from left to right. Hope for whirlpool and cackle while other people get a taste of their own medicine. I hate fighting any other prof under water as an engineer. Feels like trying to kick water uphill in a head wind.
Harpoon Gun 2, 3, 4, and 5 are all fantastic. You should use the Harpoon Gun regardless of build. Grenades in particular are very strong underwater if you have them. Bombs as well, actually. I’ll admit I haven’t experimented with the other kits underwater.
As for Thieves, just keep your distance. They will run themselves out of initiative eventually. It is however the most second most annoying thing you will ever deal with underwater.
I’ll be honest, the only thing I ever lose to is the actual most annoying thing underwater. That being downed rangers healing like mad regardless of their pet being dead.

People saying here do this do that obviously never encountered proper evading underwater thief.
No, you can’t really do a scratch to him. Good thing though he can’t do to you either. Just wave each other and separate
With Net and Rocket Turrets, EG, and Harpoon Gun you can one-on-one players well in the water. Use 3 to pull people into range of your Rocket and Net Turrets when get to far away.
When they are netted, use your #2 and #4 shot from harpoon. Acid Pool a netted target if you can, but don’t risk it if you don’t have to – that’s a good escape and you don’t need to duck into melee range like that.
Don’t forget to use overcharged net and turrets to stun people and knock them around.
Loudmouth, lousy PvPer, and mediocre PvEer.
I don’t own, I just play
 ALL YOU WILL SEE FROM YOUR SUPER PLAN IS A BUNCH OF ‘EVADED’ tooltips.
thank you for the replies. its really helpful. i will try to use turrets underwater. but in pvp. what happen if the area is in enemy hands? the sharks? wouldnt the turret will target everything near them? i thought we cant spesificly choose our target with turrets.
about other classes underwater. well dont have problem with them unless you are careless. just thief. i havent got the feel yet how to actually hit them underwater.
i have given up waiting for arenanet patches. i know they are working hard. but i dont think they would nerf thief that fast or even think about our bugs in engineers. ( our rocket boots are still disabled underwater )
Thieves do run out of initiative, as long as you time your attacks after the Shadow Assault eventually you will hit them. As someone said earlier though, they won’t ever hit you unless you stand in front of them.
The only problem is it takes a really long time to actually kill them.
