Well, I’m not technically.
I’m level 80 but from the start, I haven’t looked at any guide whatsoever.
I do PvE, mostly dungeons and boss run.

I go pistol/pistol and have turrets for my utility skills.
(I’ve found for me, it’s easier to PvE with turrets instead of kits and tool.)
My traits, they are just to my preference with limited knowledge of this game so I’m not even gonna mention. I’m just gonna tell you it’s got no points in explosives. (I’ve looked at some of the guides very recently and people actually put a lot of points on explosives. But usually those guides were for PvP and WvW.)

My armours have power, precision, and condition damage.
But, the next exotic set, I’m trying to get something that’s got healing power in it, too, since I have Performance Enhancement. And I’ve also found that people don’t usually get healing power.

And, could I please have some suggestions on runes and trinkets?

People put a lot of points into explosives because it’s the best trait line we have for PvE.

I wouldn’t recommend healing power for anything PvE, instead for a new 80 engineer I’d go with a 50/50 mix of berserkers and knights then start to swap out the knights for more pieces of berserker gear as you get more confident with playing engineer.
Stick with Power, precision and condition damage is you want to stay P/P and turrets.

If you’re only using turrets, the best rune set would probably be scholar runes or are you also looking for good PvE builds?

Thanks for the reply, was very helpful.
Berserkers and Knights are names of the different sets?

And yes, I would love to hear a good PvE build!

I use HGH zerk grenades in PuGs and never die.

You invest 6 points into alchemy and get some pretty wonderful vitality. You can clear conditions from allies by throwing elixirs, keep up 10+ stacks of might consistently, apply conditions pretty well, you get extra damage from keeping up the elixir boons, etc, etc… Very solid damage, good group support, condition removal, condition applying, and great survivability with full Zerk. Give it a shot and see how you like it. Traits should be pretty self explanatory… The 10 points in tools allows perma swiftness for roaming and escaping things, which is very helpful as well.

Generally, you will eventually learn to switch to other kits, healing turret, etc… Depending on the situation, but this is a good place to start, especially with the high vitality given by Alchemy. Don’t forget that the vulnerability that the grenades stack is incredibly useful as well, and you get 1500 range with traits, so you can stay a good distance away from the enemies.

Yes, berserkers (power, precision and ferocity) and knights (power, precision, toughness) are different sets.

Here’s the build I use

It works very well in dungeons and open world. Just be prepared to learn combos and to spam different buttons in rapid succession to be as effective as you can.

I understand your desire to run turrets, but kits are a necessity in PvE. Your pistol/rifle just don’t do enough damage/utility by themselves. I heartily suggest trying to rotate in either the bomb kit or grenade kit into your build.
