Hey guys so I’m a noob and just started an engineer norn. I love the WvW part of the game but after going through the forum most comments basically said that the engineer sucks and is one of the worst professions for WvW. My question is has anybody had success with their engineer and if so what build and strategy were you using. Also if you use acronyms can you explain what they mean.

My engi is a norn too. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but my guy looks good in trenchcoats so it works. In WvW I have success with a bunker build where I use toolkit abilities.

I don’t do very good damage, but I pull and disable enemies so my zerg can eat them. Toolkit has the [Magnet] ability which is awesome. It has a long 1200 range, and a 25 or traited 20 second cooldown. I put 20 points into tools to get the power-wrench ability which decreases all toolkit cooldowns and makes the auto-attack and throw wrench abilities cause cripple.

I can very often run from a lot of enemies a very large distance because I use a shield, have permanent sprint from speedy kits (tools major 10 points) use box-of-nails to cripple people behind me, gear shield to block, and elixir S and a free healing potion recharge when I reach 25% health, and 2 other utility slots I can put stunbreakers or net turret in. I’ve had 5 man groups just give up chasing me across the WvW map.

Everything else I just build for bunkering. I take 30 traits into inventions just for the toughness/healing, 20 alchemy, and of course the 20 in tools. You could use survivability runes. I put a Superior Sigil(s) of Hobbling to increase cripple duration, and I always eat pizza in WvW because of the +condition duration (cripple is a condition :P) Food and the secondary buffs are very importat. They’re cheap depending on what you get and the stats are very very good.

I like stacking the cripple for years on the enemy. One time I was chasing one of those kitten perma-invisibility built thieves pulling/crippling with wrench, throw wrench, nails, and Elixir F, and he couldn’t get away because everytime he stealthed, he didn’t get very far, and when he revealed he was still crippled. It was pretty funny. Got his kitten

Not many people use that though. Most people go TANKCAT or grenades glass cannon. Might want to search for those.

The best thing to do with the Engineer is just try out some of the builds to find the one you have the most fun with.
Despite what ppl say Engineers dont have a MAX type build or and Easy button build like Warriors/Thieves.

All of our effective WvW builds require a good amount of skill to use and even though the now popular 100nade build has an awesome quick burst it will also leave you a little vulnerable so you have to be smart about when to fight.

Untill you find what you really like the best WvW tool Engineers have is the Toolkit.
So start by focusing all your builds around that.
Pulling enemies out of groups or off walls or back when they try to run can be very useful. Most often in zerg battles if you pull someone out of their zerg and into yours they will get focused and killed.
Also good use of the block from Toolkit is essential to save yourself.

Don’t listen to the forum cries too much, I am constantly respeccing and switching my builds and entire playstyle from Rifle SD, P/P Pots or P/S FT Tank and each build is a blast to play.
