pistol build
Even though I find the thought of a Van Helsing-themed engineer, with elixirs, duel wielding two black revolvers in a dark trenchcoat and a shady hat, to be comparable to the greatest wet dream in the history of mankind, I cannot in good conscience suggest you do it…. I mean, it just does’nt work as good as other builds…
P/P is meant, almost exclusively, to be part of a condition build, as you’re suggesting, but unfortunately we have weapon kits that just work a lot better. Take for instance the bomb kit or the nades. They both apply conditions easier, faster and more effectively stacking them, while also dishing out a lot more raw damage.
My first engineer, I leveled with p/p elixir condition build, but changed after I discovered my necro did three times the damage to the same target at the same level.
All that being said, it is possible… I would suggest a build like the following:

Perhaps changing [Incendiary Powder] for [HGH] if you feel like it. The build is focused on using the pistol skills on CD’s for maintaining as many conditions as possible, and maintaining boons on yourself for increased damage and survivability. You should also use some food with 40% condition duration increased (Koi Cakes, maybe)…
Be mindfull though, you’ll be very vulnerable to condition reduction and boon stealing. Personally, I think leveling with a power build is a lot easier.

Pistol is mainly a condition weapon & lacks the CC you get with the rifle.
This it’s not a great choice for PvE.
The shield off hand offsets this somewhat via the reflect & stun/daze but not enough to warrant it’s use in PvE unless you have a group providing fire/water fields for the blast finisher.
In PvP however the pistol can be rather good for condition offense.

Your probably wondering why I would use scavenging runes over undead. Well the reason is because the 2 extra health steals are better then an extra 90 or so condition damage.
If your not running into allot of condition users you can swap generocity sigil for earth.
This build has allot of offensive condition pressure, the down side is that it’s power relies on staying near turrets.
dual pistol condi? pvp or wvw? yea possible. pve? instakick.

The OP asked about leveling with the pistol, not about elitist group play. The pistol is just fine.

Yup, my bad, missed the last part! :<
The pistol is totally fine then, but make sure to go dual pistol and not pistol shield if you play condi, otherwise you will lack too much of damage.
As for skills I suggest you take utilities like the bomb kit, tool kit and rocket boots. Make sure to trait for speedy kits as fast as possible, after that go for bomb radius and burn on crit.
Focus on stats “condition damage > precision”

Basically what he said. Although, I leveled a second engineer the other day (heck why not, best profession in the game imo!), and I coudn’t get speedy kits until I was lvl 40. Fourty! That’s insane! Fortunately I had some tomes of knoledge but my! Those poor new players!
Dual pistols is a lot fun Rock it.
I do generally suggest rifle for levelling, but pistol can work just fine too.As long as you slot incendiary powder once you have access to master traits you should be good, and speedy kits will help you get around.
If you want to fuss less with kits, you could also go for coated bullets for fighting clumps of enemies, but incendiary powder will give you a lot more mileage most likely.
Yea sure, rifle and power is easier but normal = mainstream = booooring :>

So does waiting for a random mob to die because you decided to apply conditions to it instead of higher direct damage.
But meh, it’s just levelling. It’ll get done one way or another.
I’d go for rifle too since i like to be efficient, even for leveling. But if someone likes the pistol syle it’s totally ok … for leveling (or P/S)

While rifle is way better then pistols at max level, the leveling process is a bit different.
the key factor. Condition damage not scaling to exotic or ascended levels, nor stacking in parties. is not really a factor when solo leveling.
your conditions do get applied, they do not get overwritten. And your condition damage scales with LEVEL. not weapon damage. So it will always be up to date, as you level.
While your weapon, may lag behind. who hasn’t be level 60 with a level 49 weapon?
Static discharge/pistols probably works just fine for leveling.

For leveling play whatever you enjoy. p/p is fine, get into the habbit of kiting stuff around a bit. Engineer’s have decent access to soft-CCs like cripple and chill.
