What’s up engi bros?

I would ask you what do you think about the Flamethrower in the classic pvp Celestial Rifle build.

I mean, since that i got sick about all these “superior-single-target-burster” thief, war, GS guard… i decided to try something else

It’s basically the Celestial Hybrid that everyone knows, but with the FT instead of the Elixir Gun or the Elixir S.

Of course, the purpose of this build is the decapping, but we do not loose damage power. Plus, we have a very short CD knockback with the Air blast, and a 20 sec CD Blindness, which saved my life tons and tons of times.

I feel much safe when i run with this build, because i have more survivability, expecially when they try to gank me.

With the classic build i get killed more fast, but with this one, i can survive longer, without loosing DPS.

So, whaddya think guys?

I’m a little concerned using the FT, tbh… Experienced way too much that it just doesn’t hit my target.

Otherwise, it looks fun, I’m gonna try it.

No stun break or escape. Other than that it’s perfectly fine. You spend a lot of time/CCs to land your flame blasts perfectly, but they do a lot of damage when you do. I’d consider running it if slick shoes wasn’t as OP as it is right now— as is you’re pretty much gimping yourself by not taking it.

You might want to consider taking Intelligence sigil (adds a kittenload of damage), and Pack runes over Ogre for the high fury uptime and 5% extra crit chance.

You have no stunbreaks, so your basically dice rolling that the other team isn’t CC heavy.

A single thief running basilisk venom can lock you down from about 100 to 0 if he knows what he is doing.

Yeah, no stunbreak is an instant deal-breaker. Waaay too many builds out there will take full advantage of that.

Also, your reasoning for picking up FT seems… off. Grenades already has a blindness skill with a 10 second cooldown (though I guess more skills are better) and if you picked Slick shoes over E-gun or Elixir S, you’ll get a very nice stun that will stop most melee builds completely dead for it’s full duration.

uhmmm… yes, you are right. I’ve tried Elixir S, and it’s way too better.

Stealth + Invulnerability

And it’s too awesome see mesmers and thief loosing me, while i laugh in stealth and unload to them the engi kitten nal!!!

Nevermind

Flamethrower has three problems going against it:

1. Flame Jet and Retaliation don’t mix very well. Thankfully you don’t really see as much Retaliation in PvP these days with Meditations so popular, but it is important to note that Confusion does get converted to it with Contemplation of Purity, and that blasting light fields still grants AoE Retaliation.

2. Flame Jet is easily the worst auto-attack we have. I would literally use Tranquilizer Dart over it, because at least I know that Weakness application is reliable. For one, Flame Jet is very difficult to accurately aim; it has a conical hit box, making it very difficult to reliably apply damage pressure in the same way you can with bombs or grenades. For two, its damage coefficient is substantially low compared to other kits.

3. Flame Blast clips through terrain very easily, and its blast finisher is very unreliable. When they added the blast finisher to the skill, they didn’t really account for the fact that it is a target-able, detonate-able skill. Compared to something like Mighty Blow, where the blast finisher can be reliably applied on impact, Flame Blast can often times end up being detonated too far above the fire field (or whatever you’re blasting) to achieve its effect. Coupled with the fact that Napalm has a very thin fire field, you’re not reliably getting might out of it as well as you would with the Bomb Kit (and without that forced dodge/CC in Big Ol Bomb).

I tried very hard for a long time to fit the kit into the meta, and truthfully, it just is a badly designed kit even with its latest buffs. Here’s to hoping it gets some love with the upcoming expansion and/or new specialization.
