It’s hard to adjust without the grenade kit after using it for a week and a half, but here is my more diverse turret build for Structured PvP.

http://www.gw2db.com/skill-builds/1820-mechaman-video – Build
Although lacking a stun breaker, this build, to begin with, has a high amount of survival due to traits and gear. Juggernaut and 30 points into Inventions equal a 500 toughness increase. This is a substantial increase in survival.
The build also has a ton of crowd control. Air Blast, Overcharged Shot and Net Shot mean that we don’t have to waste a utility skill on something for control. This, in effect, makes an effective point holder as well as other roles.
The damage from this build comes mainly from burning. Rocket Turret, Flame Turret and Flamethrower equal numerous abilities to inflict burning, all of which leading to fast, sustainable damage. The Flamethrower has very efficient, short cool downed abilities that mesh perfectly with the long-ish cool downs of the Rifle.
The damage can be quite easily changed to burst when Juggernaut gets max stacks of might. Blunderbuss and Jump Shot, along with Flame Blast if you have the range, can easily breach 3-4k crits with each ability. This is unexpected burst and, combined with the toughness this build has, it makes a very deadly build.
The turrets, also, allow more room for both point holding and self survival. With the Inventions traits, our turrets can deal a very respectable amount of damage by themselves, meaning that we have time to recover behind line of sight.

I hope you enjoy this build!

Nice video production. Perhaps eliminate or reduce the voice track of your friend.

You didn’t convince me that the trait and skill investment in turrets was worth it, though. Turrets are annoying for opponents, I’m sure, but I’d like to see more about how the turrets make the build.

Lastly, the mortar in the video (about 4:29) is just an oversight, right?

If I didn’t make it a point then I apologise, but turrets are very good assets for node holding, due to their stationary, consistent damage. They assist condition damage for you very much so and in theory they are, combined with your crowd control, great skills.

I was testing the mortar because I had never really tried anything apart from the crate.
Turns out it sucks!

Yes, the mortar does indeed suck. Not even really all that good in WvW either.

In theory the turrets are excellent for point defense. But it is rare to see high level players using them in PvP for three reasons:

1) Lack of mobility
2) They die too easy
3) they aren’t improved through stats

All these things can be slightly improved via trait investments, as you have done. But it seems many folks don’t think you get enough return in turret trait and skill investment compared to other builds. I was hoping to see this proven wrong because right now it seems turrets are the red-headed step-children of engineer utilities. Specifically there are generally better ways to do the things turrets can do with better synergies. This is not a knock on your build, which you used quite expertly. But it seems to me that is more a credit to your skill, not the utility of turrets.

Although that i aggree with what you said,i think i read somewhere in the forum that the turrets actually benefit from Cond Dmg to there dmg and maybe from stats like Vit/Tough to there survivability.I am not sure if any of those really works as it wasnt an official post but if someones wanna try it can have those in mind.
