so, how r u using elixir gun?
Skill #1 is a great auto attack to use, depending on your build. Pretty much if you’re not using a power rifle build you’ll want to auto with Elixir Gun. Bombs/Nades are better of course, but good luck landing either of those consistently in PvP. It’s of course easier in PvP, but not WvW roaming.
Skill #2 is very slow for now (I think that’s an upcoming change), I use it when chasing if I can reach them. They get cripple and you get swiftness, that really helps catch someone. It’s pretty situational though, and there are better things you could do while chasing someone.
Skill #3 poison is never bad. If your target is around half health and has no poison, I would definitely use this to hinder their healing. In small group fights keep an eye out for allies who get condi bombed, this can really help them as it removes 1 condition per tick to allies it hits.
Skill #4 is awesome! Practice cancelling the leap back by pressing your drop kit key (default is the ` key). Make sure you can get this to the point where you don’t actually cancel the skill, but you also don’t fly backwards. You won’t always need it, but if you can do that when you don’t want to fly back, this skill becomes one of the best we have. Blast finisher + using the leap backward in a smoke field lets you get away in stealth (unless someone steps in the puddle, that damage will reveal you). It’s tons of damage, and is great for dropping into groups of enemies and getting back to a safe range.
Skill #5 is self explanatory. Removes 1 condition on impact. Good when you can stay in one spot for awhile and soak up the heals. Keep in mind projectile finishers will remove a condition but only from one ally closest to the hit target. In other words, to actually get projectile finishers to work for you in that way you’ll want to drop Super Elixir right on top of your enemy and then shoot through it.
The tool belt skill is a stun break + regen, so that’s great as well. Overall our strongest kit I think.

Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
The auto attack is great from longer ranges to proc Incendiary Powder! Bleeds and weakness are great too!
Elixir F is an ok ability! Cripple is always nice and if you’re lucky it’ll bounce to you and give you vigor! It does ok damage in a hybrid or power build! The cast time is really long and the projectile speed is pretty slow!
Fumigate is thuper amaze! Cure your team of many condis in a teamfight! Keep poison on a downed bad guy if your other poisons are on cooldown! Cure poison off your downed teammate so he can be revived!
Acid Bomb is great for fire field might stacking and water field heal blasting! You can use Regenerating Mist plus Acid Bomb for a simultaneous heal and escape! It also can be used on your Poison Grenade field for more weakness! It’s not great for smoke fields because the lingering damage field will probably reveal you! Finally, it does decent damage if you run hybrid or power!
Super Elixir really helps your sustain if you combine it with Backpack Regenerator and regen! And it removes 1 condition! Any kind of condition removal on Engineer, a class that has awful terrible condition removal, is thuper thwell!
Healing Mist is arguably our best stun break!

The minute I picked it up, I never used the stunbreak elixir again.
You forgot this part so I’ll say it.
Wahoo! Bye frands!
The tranquilizer dart (EG auto-attack) is also very useful against power-based attackers since it can really reduce their damage output. Even though you might not be maximizing your damage, it can be useful to have them blow through certain skills or to establish some kind of positioning while taking less damage (i.e. closing in on a longbow ranger or rifle warrior).
If you happen to be using pistols, the tranquilizer dart more or less outclasses explosive shot. The only situations it won’t is if you want the AoE damage (which is small) or if you have coated bullets traited. Of course if you’re going rifle than it’s only really good if you want to set the weakness on your enemy, or if you just want to regen health with something like backpack regenerator while keeping a targeted ranged auto-attack.

I knew I forgot something!

If you are condi speced the auto attack works like a pest control spray against thieves in small scale WvW encounters. Autoattack every thief, well any zerker spec, at 1200 range 5-10 times to force them to back of or die.
You can use Acid Bomb as a (backwards) leap forward if you don’t have rocket boots slotted. Auto-run forward, hold lmb, turn camera, right-click, eg #4. Nice and risky.
Also, one trick that you should note with acid bomb (EG #4)…
If you want to use the ability, but don’t want to launch yourself all the way backwards, immediately hit the weapon swap key after using acid bomb. Note this is your weapon swap key, don’t just put the kit away by using your utility skill again.
This causes the game to try and “drop a bundle” while in the air, which is not possible. What happens is that it actually stops the leap animation, meaning you can effectively use acid bomb without moving at all. It can also allow you to recover to a neutral state a bit faster than you would if you went through the whole launch back, meaning it can sometimes be nifty if you want to do some things in quick succession. This also solves the issue of mobs chasing you out of the acid bomb field if you’re using it in a PvE encounter.
thanks for the input ppl!
i do know the small tricks like tapping the weapon change button thingy that cancels, or small other tricks, i probably know like99% of these tricks in gw2 alrdy :p
was just wondering how and when to use these skills with elixir gun, helped me out a lot! altho i still didnt end up liking elixir gun, to each their own playstyle i guess
and again, thx for ur input and help!
You want to use EG when:
1: Your oponent is far away from you. Then you can stack bleeds/weakness.
2:You want to kite away. For example a warrior’s stances.
3.You want to cleanse a condition/poison.
If you’re oponent sits right ontop of you then you’d be better off using bombs or ’nades.
If you’re oponent sits right ontop of you then you’d be better off using bombs or ’nades.
But one hit is always good for the weakness debuff
Weakness on that rogue bolting at you intent on spamming always makes me
This weapon is by far the best kit to use defensively.
- Bleeding tick is longer than pistol 1 (though no aoe), and constant weakness makes burst class easier to manage.
- is a pretty decent cripple skill that can help kiting the target.
- is an ok poison attack, but what it really shine is during teamfight.
If another eng is using this kit as well, you guys can even cleanse each other completely with a relatively short cd! - is a very strong skill on power/ celestial build. The damage is so high that you can clear those nasty turrets pretty quickly, with the help of rifle 5. It can also serve as a healing skill if you use healing turret.
- is a very solid condition removal and decent healing. With this skill, an engineer can bunk much longer on a node.
Belt skill is the key why many people choose elixer gun.! A stun break and a heal on a relatively low CD without sacrificing much!. (Because all 5 skills on elixer gun are pretty useful.)
So basically just one kit, it provides you with:
1. Weakness maintenance
2. Cripple
3. Group Cleanse+ poison
4. Heavy AOE dm + blast finisher
5. Condition Cleanse + heal
6. Stun break+ heal
No wonder many people use it!.
