So i have a engi at 80. Can’t decide on what direction to go in. started to do a power scrapper, but then thought about a condi engi for high level fractals. I have other options for high level fractals (a ranger and a necro), but that doesn’t help me with engi. Not sure what direction to go in with it, and I’m about to throw my hands up and just make a celestial set so I can do basically everything.

Suggestions? Advice? Comments? Thoughts?

Wahoo!

Celecstial is a bad idea, it doesn’t make you “do basically everything” good, it makes you “do nothing” good. :<

There isn’t just “one” build for everything. I suggest you simply make yourself a power and a condi gear and switch according to the situation. Open world, dungeons and trash mobs → power, high lv fotm bosses or specific raid encounters → condi. Easy as that

You shouldn’t have to decide on ONE build. You should have to decide wich (at least) 2 builds you want to be using in your future. I also encourage you to experiment with your utilities. There are other skills than on “metabattle” that are extremy strong in specific encounters. Think outside of the box!

For any sort of group content, it’s hard to recommend anything outside of the meta condi build:

Agreed with Ziggy though that sometimes you’ll want to adjust the build a bit to the content you’re on, especially if you’re doing something like Fractals.

For open world, however, I’ve found that running Flamethrower with Alch/Firearms/Scrapper is pretty amazing. You can personally sustain the boons you’d typically need a full group to provide, which will make up for Flamethrower’s otherwise lackluster DPS. This along with the great cleave and 100% stability make for probably the strongest open world build across any profession, especially when you’re dealing with HoT content.

Two builds was kinda the direction I was leaning in, just wasn’t sure if there was a hybrid build that I was missing. I’ve been looking at Viper, and will probably bite the bullet and spend the crap ton of money to do it. However on the power build, not sure what stat set to use. Berserker is everyone’s default, but scrapper has that toughness → power trait, so I’m curious if there’s a better choice. (I also have felt kinda squishy on this character, though I haven’t played with scrapper spec much.)

for power, zerk it.

if you want a little more survivability, replace zerk with marauder until you hit either 53% or 60% crit chance. (53% → with spotter/banner + fury you hit 100%, 60% → with fury you hit 100%). the dps loss is small but the extra hp will help. it isnt worth building around the trait, the returns are small compared to the investment.

for condi, yes viper! shoot for sinister or rabid for any pieces you cant acquire in viper.

dont be hybrid. pick condi or power and focus on it as hard as you can in each build.
