who is engi's worst enemy in spvp?
Honestly, since I play a full bunker build I can outlast pretty much anyone while decapping or holding a point, which means I win in most cases without either party going down. Hardest to stay alive against are probably thieves if they’re good and power necros.
condi necros and condi warriors
My Enemy list:
-Condi Necros
-MM Necros
-Spirit Ranger
….
-Good Thiefs. Phantasm mesmer are not the big problem. Also warrior are ok for me
my top 3 worst nightmares – i always run instantly and call for help when i see one of these
1.Condi necro
2.Condition necro
3.Condition necromancer
Corrupt boon against an hgh engi…
gg
Things that go BOOM
If your Engineer is condition based,
- A condition necro with Dagger offhand, Staff, and god save you from the Plague Signet – you do not stand an ice-cube’s odds in hell of surviving this kind of condition application. Engineer’s condition removal is amongst the worst in game, especially at dealing with big (burst) condi applications.
To be honest, you have a chance at beating anything else 1v1. A decent chance, if you play your Engi very well. Hard matchups: Hambow Warriors (what doesn’t struggle vs Hambow Warriors?) Spirit Rangers: You can’t dodge their burning, as it’s just spam applied by pets & 1111111. The meta Spirit Ranger has about 3.75 times the Condi removal of the meta Engineer – you have to bait his uncontrollable condi removal (Empathic Bond) and then completely condi spike him down to win. Oh, and if he pops his Elite spirit, you simply cannot kill it. Phantasm Mesmer: Kill it with fire as fast and as accurately as possible, (don’t get dodged,) or you will lose the sustained damage fight very quickly.

Chaith called it. For the life of me I cannot beat a condi necro running two condi transfers if they have any clue of what they are doing. Also Hambow warriors really feel like a hard counter and if they seem to be equal skill with me I generally lose simply because we have like 2 condi removals every 15-20 seconds on our common builds whereas they have 3 every 8.. and healing sig so its a battle of attrition I just seem to lose unless I just really outplay them.
Spirit rangers… everyone hates spirit rangers.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
The problem is if we go for condition build we die to necro/spirit ranger/warrior but we are ok in teamfights and can hold a point for a long time.
If we go for a power build we die to mesmer/thief/warrior (and ele if played) and are in a teamfight less more useful (lower damage over time to guardian, we die more often)
If we go for a bunker/decap build we do not die but we are not useful in team fights and we never kill something.
@ Chaith could you update your builds in your twitch channel? The power build on your asura is not the one you posted in the comments in twitch.
And please please steam more often
It’s definitely a Condi Necro with the Transfers and Corrupt Boon. Other then that it’s up to experience, knowledge, and skill. Even then in team fights I’d rather be the Engineer.

mesmer necro and ranger are your threats as engi
Number one is obviously condition necromancer, they completely hard counter engineer and you need to excessively outplay them to win. So disregarding that;
Greatsword Mesmers can kite engineers extremely well
Some people have said warrior but on my Condi build I have enough blind/chill/poison to keep them away from me. On my power build I struggle moreso until I manage to interupt.
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
No matter what build I play I am always terrified of condi necros
Other than that I have hard times against a very well played thief/mesmer, sometimes even a hambow warrior.
Somehow I donĀ“t feel as bad against spirit rangers or mm necros…
With my bunker engi I have a tough time win mm necros. Not enough dmg to down the pets quickly so they just keep plucking away at me. While the necro hangs back and just keeps applying conditions and swaps to second health bar if I am actually getting somewhere. Imo the minions either need reduced dmg or health. Seems to me they have a very large health pool for an ai pet and there is a half dozen of em. They also hit hard probably cus like warrior a necro can spec dmg instead of bunker and still have lots of sustain.
gs/lb warriors are pretty strong vs. the common engineer builds. Besides that, everything Chaith said.
Perma evade thieves and hambow/cc spam wars.
Condition necromancers with condition transfers = GG. I have also difficulties against longbow/hammer,condi warriors and some well played mesmers.

Condi necros, condi wars. By far.
really bad engineer
Is a build for Engineer existing to beat a MM necro and a condition necro in sPVP?
Is a build for Engineer existing to beat a MM necro
MM power/defence necro is an easy kill for Bomb/Nade imo – just kite the minions through the aoe.
If the minion necro just gets his minions on top of his full condition equipment its a different story though.

Power engineer builds do pretty all right vs. condition necros. Not amazing, but much better than condition engineers. SD or power/control nades both work. I don’t think power HGH would do that well, but I haven’t seen it tried.

Even most rangers. Thanks for making this the meta, Anet.

Power control can take out condi necros pretty easily if played well.
against condi necros i always carry AutomatedResponce. On top of it, if I see 1v1 condi necro inc, i swap my nades for elixir c. once below 25% health i hit elixir and then its a party time.
in order to have time for elixir c, i try to moderate condi pressure on me before i slip under 25%. i have healing turret overcharge, i use elixir c toolbelt and combo condi removal from elGun #5. that gives me enough breathing time to pop elixir C while under 25% health.
once AutomatedResponce kicks in and im condi free – its a party time. the other day condi necro went down 1v1 in front of gate in Foefire. His last words: “HOW?!!!”.
boy, i loved it. he was r30ish.
doesnt always work.
