So I did some testing with the auto attack of all the weapons excluding the obvious offhand ones. I used Celestial amulet with Runes of Divinity. No Sigils and no Traits. All stats straight down the middle. Target was a Heavy Golem. Here are the average results.

Length in time to kill:

Greatsword – 20.4s

Hammer – 17s

Mace – 26s

Sword – 20s

Scepter – 29.6s

Staff – 35.2s

Thought this might interest someone or just for fun to see.

Hello, thank you for sharing. Do you mind telling us what build you were using for the tests? I’m asuming you have traited Symbolic Avenger because of the Hammer results.

he said he didn’t use any traits, which i could see. hammer does really good dps because of the symbol. the thing is, hammer feels so awful to use because of how slow it is, even with the great dps. anet pls.

not sure what to do with this information.

especially mace and septer draw their dps from #3/#2 and have the focus or torch offhand to add hugh junks of dps.

but thx for the test

Probably worth noting, considering you had celestial stats you also had a decent amount of condi damage, so if you were letting Virtue of Justice proc, hammer actually procs burning pretty effectively with how many hits it deals so you were doing a lot of burning damage compared to stuff like the greatsword.

No traits, full celestial for even stat spread, single target.

As had been stated, it’s a comparison of auto attacks only. Any conclusions beyond that scope are probably flawed

Adding for completeness: longbow AA dps is within like 2% difference from scepter AA dps, so should theoreticaly take it down in 29-30s.

Interesting, I could have sworn there was a derv post addressing why the projectile speed being painfully slow, in which he justifies by saying the AA got the highest DPS in the game (higher attack speed?), albeit he did not give any statistic to back that claim. Not that I agree.

If ya no longer see me after this post,
it means THEY got me for " neg criticism in clever disguise".
Know that it has been fun and I love ya all.

I remember that post too. He may have specified ranged dps.

Feels about right, Symbol dmg is pretty potent. Much of the hammer’s DPS is front-loaded onto its’ AA.

Surprised to see sword matching up to GS even though GS AA had might stacking properties. Interesting list.

How did you manage to remove traitlines? Usually they give you a preset build when you go into pvp where you have minors affecting some things like symbols.

When you swap they are empty, the minors are probably still there though.

If zeal is slotted hammer gets a 10% boost on symbol and 2 stacks of vulnerabilty permanently if virtues is slotted 2% damage increassed by the protection and aegis and if honor is slotted virtues gives an additional 1% from the passive vigor.
