Hi guys, I recently reached lvl 80 guardian and now I’m just farming at dungeon for supplies trying to get my 1st set of exotic armor. However, I kind of need help into what kind of stats I should be getting?

Basically, I wanted this to be a offensive/supportive guardian.
[Can kill fast with high damage AOE but isn’t so weak that he keeps dying]

Anyways, I’m not really sure.
There are some who suggested that I go for;
- Power
- Toughness
- Condition damage

Then again, there are some who suggested;
- Power
- Precision
- Critical

I’m using greatsword for my 1st; scepter + focus on my 2nd.
I’m looking into power/precision/crit at the moment but I’m not really sure
about the traits and skills that should go with that build. Can anyone experienced
in this area help?

If you put your mind into it, you can accomplish anything.

Guardians do not have viable condition builds I have discovered. They’re only really able to put out burning with any certainty, and one condition can be cleansed with ease. Yes you could do a precision based build and slot some “x% chance to cause [name condition] on critical” but thats far from something you want to build you’re class around I think. Especially since other classes can simply cause conditions with their normal attacks. Take my engineer. On a pistol-pistol setup he can do: bleeding, poison, confusion, burn (not including ‘soft conditions’ like blind and imob). Compare that to a guardian who does…burning every fifth attack. Naw, don’t spec for condition damage.

If I were you I’d go for a mix. I use a split between knights-soldiers-clerics armor (2 pieces of each) and zerker and knights trinkets. I mostly wvw and it does ok. Altrustic healing is what I work towards, though I’m still experimenting and havent decided on the runes yet. I’m using soldiers at the moment but they’re not ideal. I want divinity runes like I use in pvp.

The build is called the altrustic healing build. Its on here…very cookie cutter stuff by now.

Go Pow/Vit/Toughness if you die much, or Toughness/Pow/Perc.. or if you need very offensive you can go berserker Power/Prec/Crit dmg.

Play with those on armor and Trinkets and you’ll be fine

What about the WvW build?
0,0,0,30,30,10 and knight [ppt]?

If you put your mind into it, you can accomplish anything.

Power toughness condi damage is a no no. Don’t do it.

Knight’s + Berserker’s is the way to go. Be sure to throw in 30 pts in honor so you dont get screwed by burst.

The only condition that guardian have access to is burning and even with power gear, the damage of the torch stay quite similar.

So the way i set myself up is Knight gear + Knight jewelry and Ruby orb in my armor.

I do alot of damage and im not “that squishy”. I tend to not put alot of vitality because the heals are not % of life based. If you heal for 400, that doesnt matter if you have 1000 hp or 100000hp, youll still heal the same.

Just start with Knight gear and work from there. If you want more offensive, you can switch jewels/runes.

Knight is power/pre/tough

to clarify what someone told me in another post

Toughness = against armor attack
Vitality = against conditions

Since the guardian can cleanse alot of them, i wouldnt worry too much about vitality but that depend on you.

I run a 10/30/0/30/0 with a heavy mix of Zerker and a couple Soldier pieces. I’ve run almost every dungeon path with this setup and it’s performing quite well. I’m quite happy with the damage output and support. You need to actively mitigate incoming damage but its quite doable. This trait build will give you up to 30% increased damage if your target is burning and you’re under full energy.

For WvW increase your Soldiers gear mix until you’re comfortable. Or switch out some Zerker for Knights.

This build can be adjusted for all weapons as you have access to RHS and 2HMastery also. Hammer is fun here with increased Protection and symbol duration.

If you think you will be comfortable in Zerker gear but you need to get used to it start out with a 0/0/30/30/10 AH build. Then switch into Meditations and ultimatly work your way out of the Valor tree.

I roll 0 15 30 20 5. Agreed that burst can be trouble, need to have quick reflexes for dodge, virtures, and renewed focus.

start off wirh knight’s, mix with either berserkers, valkyrie or soldier depending on what you need. many liek to start with soldiers mixed to get some vitality and extra toughness in.. more conservative but can still be helpful. valyrie is good if you have decent crit chance and you want to add in some vitality. a nice balance. berserkers is for when you know you want to go as all out as possible in the dmg department. the more you play your class and against other content, the more you’ll be able to afford berserkers. many guardians go full berserker as well, but you definitely need to play on your toes more and can’t stand there and take damage.

the pieces with crit dmg (valkyrie and berserker) i usually put on only shoulders/gloves/boots as if you look at it from a one critical damage % per point basis, you’re giving up the least.

toughness is good against direct dmg. vitality can help buffer burst as well as conditions as armor doesn’t affect condition dmg.

though i would settle on a build first, in terms of trait points and then gear yourself around that to reach the stats you’re comfortable with or want to achieve. though in the end, it will come down to gameplay and how well you utilize your build : ))
